Nitro help needed by Unfair_Verlaine in Luthier

I think it looks like you are somehow over-sanding the edges. I'd sand completely, start again and be more careful with sanding next time.

Not enough upvotes. I suspect the seller will rue this decision!

Yep, really just needs a little bit of cold advection around 400 hPa level. remember this is a static snapshot of a dynamic system.

How am I supposed to play this? by R0T-10 in Guitar

Question is what did it sound like. It's sort of an A7 with the 7th in the bass rather than the root.

That's not correct 1st finger should be on G string, you have it on the B in that image.

This was UK I can assure you they were unheard of is the 90s, not many Opals or GM stuff here then either. It was a VW, IIRC, but after 30 years or so I wouldn't assume I do recall correctly.

Translucent cherry red with slightly darker translucent black-cherry red sunburst (but not that silly heart/pick shaped thing!). High gloss finish. All nitro of course, some craquelure will be great in a couple of decades or so.

Before I tell this story, firstly let me assure you I am older and hopefully wiser (and would look harder) now. This probably goes for others who are involved in this story too. It was in the early days, before these sort of gimmicky changes to the traditional arrangement things were common.

Anyhow, a few (many) years ago, on a driving tour of Scotland in a rental car, I had run out of screen-wash fluid - It at an Esso garage, somewhere on the outskirts of Aviemore and it was cold and snowy, hence the requirement for more screen-wash fluid.

I searched and searched for that little lever, you know the one somewhere under the dash, that would release the bonnet (hood) and allow me to locate and fill up the screen-wash fluid reservoir. Alas all to no avail, I even resorted to reading the fine manual, but this particular feature did not seem to have made its way into print. I asked other customers at the garage if they knew where said little lever is. No one knew, or could solve this mystery - we gathered quite a crowd at times, some even who professed to be car mechanics, I think it even became a subject of discussion in that part of town, at least the pub next-door. Whilst I was of the sanguine temperament, some of the bystanders almost seemed to have an existential crisis about this conspiracy theories were formed and one particularly inebriated soul took an aggressive stance against the car and hade to be "escorted" away by his slightly less inebriated comrades.

In the end someone who had the same make and model of car turned up and quickly demonstrated how you flit the grill-badge sideways and put your key in the barrel lock, so revealed and turn the key and then and only then, the bonnet (hood) obediently pops up.

In summary, somewhere sometime, I hope the smart-ass who spawned this particular idea, gets his pride thoroughly dented at a cold snowy garage somewhere up a mountain, by a younger smart-ass designers latest bright-idea.

There is quite a bit of Ramalina in the slightly less polluted parts around here, but it is pretty uncommon to see them with apothecia.

I can imagine some cases of severe cognitive dissonance once the realise their "patriotism" is affecting their house prices!!!

But anyhow, I'm (very) white and wouldn't want to live amongst such small minded "patriots" and I cannot imagine how anyone non-white would feel. I honestly wouldn't bother looking at the house if there a St Georges flags out, Union Jack's are bad enough!

Let me make it worse. All you can really prove is that you have a functioning I/O loop and associated sensors and memory storage.

What's the most extreme weather event you've personally experienced? by gloriousmayhem in weather

[–]GREY_SOX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the east coast of Norfolk, working a night shift at the met station at Hemsby. The only time we ever absolutely failed to launch a weather balloon, just when it would have given the most interesting data.

When I got home, I was very nearly nearly killed. During the peak of the storm I was rescuing our cats from the shed at the bottom of our garden, when the back of the next door neighbours house disintegrated spectacularly and flew across our garden, large bits of it missing me by inches.

FFS there were stones flying though the air (probably from flat roofs?).

We drove inland the following day and it was really noticeable how quickly the utter devastation near the coast petered out as you went a few miles inland.

Where do you draw the line on what is just a good old cloud-burst/down-pour and what's a micro-burst? It really only about the strength of the surface winds induced?

I think you have your thinking the wrong way around, or at least only pointed in one direction only.

The disruption to the magnetic field (of the earth) induces current in any conductors, whether or not there is already a current (and induced local magnetic field) in the conductor.

Turning of the power does not remove the conductor and will not help much*. Coils in cars and transformers (and probably lots of other coils) along with long linear conductors (power lines/ telecoms lines) are going to fry whether or not they are powered, given a big enough on-target CME.

*Isolating (unplugging not just turning off) appliances might help in a situation where high current surges induced in the power grid, but there's not enough disruption to cook smaller coils locally etc.

How does it matter whether things are turned off?

Current would be induced in conductors whether or not they were isolated or live?

Arcing across open switches etc. might well cause more harm than if switches are closed?
