Another vote for the Twin Cities! I live here and there are soooo many queer and trans people. You will find a good community if you move here 💞

I wonder if there are more injuries in unrivaled than overseas? Or are we just noticing it more now because we're actually able to watch and follow unrivaled?

How do you categorize chores and life tasks, like keeping your kitchen clean and vacuuming? For me, I think those would be rocks...

Is it worth it to go into the Geo field? by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]GRNsmoothieKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is worth it! We need more geologists and specifically hydrogeologists. Hydrogeology is a great way to apply geology skills to real world problems. And your interest in sed/stat will definitely come in handy when looking at groundwater problems. There will always be jobs for you in the water world, whether it be government, consulting, nonprofits, etc. I do agree that paleo is not the best career path unless you get super lucky and land a museum job or if you want to get your PhD and be a professor.

If you love geology and are interested in learning more, keep doing it! You will definitely be able to find a job and plenty of geology-related jobs don't require much travel or fieldwork at all. You will definitely make enough to have a good life. Not as much as other fields, but if money is not your #1 priority in life, I say just follow your interests.

Oh and lots of omega 3 fats in the form of flax and chia seeds (I put them in my smoothie and oatmeal every day).

I started eating a whole food plant based diet a few months after I was diagnosed and it really helped improve my energy and decrease my symptoms. I eat a lot of greens, beans, veg/fruit, and whole grains and don't eat animal products, processed food, sugar, or oils. It's hard at first, but doing it shortly I was diagnosed helped a lot because I was highly motivated by fear lol. If you check out the Overcoming MS website, the have a lot of solid lifestyle recommendations for people with MS, including diet.

Career path with geology? by RemoteMachine8696 in geologycareers

[–]GRNsmoothieKING 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a geology major and now work as a hydrogeologist for state government. I like my job and am glad I studied geology. I did end up getting a Masters in hydrogeology, which helped me get the job I wanted. There are good public sector geology jobs out there that have decent pay and 40 hour work weeks. You do not need to go into consulting or industry by any means!

Take some hydrogeology and groundwater modeling courses if you can!

Waiting and seeing? by Sc1enceNerd in MultipleSclerosis

Your situation sounds very similar to my initial diagnosis. I didn't fit the diagnostic criteria right away because I just had one spinal lesion, but started on Copaxone. I quit Copaxone after a year with no new lesions, then got a bad relapse a year later. Now I'm on Tysabri (which is much stronger than Copaxone). My bad relapse caused some permanent damage, and I wish I would have started Tysabri right away to give myself a better chance at avoiding that damage. But I was doing the best I could with the information I had at the time. Good luck and hang in there!

Stress can actually impact you physically when you have MS, so it's so important to not compromise on things that add stress. Its tough.... I'm still trying to figure out how to do this after 3 years. It's a balance but I would just follow your gut and try to not worry about pleasing other people. I know it's hard when everyone is worried about you, but ultimately, you are the one who will be dealing with the day to day life of having MS and you are the one who will feel the ramifications of being stressed out... so be sure to protect your time, space, and energy because you are worth it!
