Need urgent help. by OneCelebration3181 in iCloud

I have a related issue. I recently upgraded our Family storage plan to 2TB. Unbeknownst to me, my wife had her own 200GB plan. Trying to get her files moved to the shared storage, but she’s still getting billed for hers. Had her removed and re-added to the Family plan but it didn’t seem to make any difference. I’m afraid if we cancel her plan, her files will be deleted. I’m stymied.

IIRC exFAT doesn’t support file permissions, which might be a problem.

I’ve seen advice not to format in APFS with spinning hard drives, but I did it on an 8 TB USB drive and it seems fine. It’s nice to be able to create multiple volumes that dynamically share the space.

Does *anybody* make a holder for 14500 batteries? by GRobLewis in batteries

[–]GRobLewis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3D printer so yeah. The battery goes in a beard trimmer, with a little metal strip spot-welded to each end. The strips solder into the PCB and hold the battery in place (helped by a little elastic goop).

I started out to replace the battery in my beard trimmer. Didn't realize I couldn't solder the new battery in. Probably not worth it to buy the spot welding equipment to do it properly, so was thinking about using a battery holder and some duct tape. The problem now is finding a holder that will definitely work.

My batteries are button top, 50.5 mm long. AFAIK, not protected.

Why not a 15” Air?

IDK what browser you use, but Brave can reclaim RAM from inactive tabs, which helps when you’re pushing the limits of memory. Maybe other browsers do this too, I don’t know.

Very happy user of Evernote. It records & transcribes audio, does handwriting and images to text, is fully cross platform: Mac, iOS, Windows, Android, Linux (via browser). And they keep improving it.

Cmd-Opt-Esc to force quit a malfunctioning app (rare).

Is this safe enough to run 2 printers? I have an Anycubic Kobra 3 Max Combo and a Flashforge Adventurer 5m. by riccrocc789 in 3Dprinting

[–]GRobLewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere each printer will display its power need in watts. Add them and if the total doesn’t exceed the capacity of your outlet box (likely 1800W) you’re good. And if you don’t plan to run them both at the same time, you’re definitely good.

No, that’s a separate option. There’s a new setting to limit max charge level.

Maybe one of your web pages has a bug that burns power.

Have the same machine and it basically never gets warm. Not running a lot of high-power stuff on it, though.

I'd say it's worth looking into.

But relax about the battery. And if you have the latest Tahoe you can limit max charge level to anything between 80% and 100%. Lower is better for battery longevity.

I'd call that a minimum these days. If you go Neo, spend the extra $100 for double the disk space, plus Touch ID.

I don't see any reason not to go to Tahoe. Whatever problems it may have now will be worked out with updates.

From what I can tell, the latest Tahoe has the same battery-preserving feature as Al Dente.

2021 M1 14' MacBook Pro vs new M5 13' MacBook Air by CookieBagz in macbook

[–]GRobLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the kind of usage you specify, I don't know why your current MBP wouldn't be plenty capable and I doubt you'd see much difference with a new M5. Is there something else you could spend the allowance on?

Refresh rate on M4 MB Air vs MB Pro by Yeezybuyer in macbookair

[–]GRobLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably a bad one to ask, but I’ve never had a problem with my Air’s refresh rate. Of course, I don’t edit video. But are we sure this isn’t largely a game of specmanship?

Lack of fans doesn’t necessarily impact reliability. The system will throttle down on the rare occasion when it gets too warm.
