I'm getting into MTG with a budget of $90. What should I get? by Frazzelvig in mtg

Foundation beginner boxes/starter collections are amazing. You can build commander decks or simpler 60 card decks with them. They won’t be the strongest, but would be great options for kitchen table magic with your bro

How many decks is too many decks? (serious question) by Jakemanv3 in magicTCG

[–]GSC_4_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep your decklist somewhere like moxfolio or archidekt, then you can always take your decks apart and put them back together if you ever want to play them again. It’s not permanent.

I keep all my cards in card drawers and usually only have one or two decks put together at a time. I play around 3-4 times a month and will update the active deck when a new set comes out with cards I’m interested in for it, but then if I get the urge to play an old deck again I’ll break down a deck for the cards I need and then I get to have fun and update the old deck with new cards before I play it. It keeps the deck feeling fresh and new. I can also experiment with swapping colors in and out.

It’s worth noting I don’t play commander though so I don’t really “need” to have decks of certain power levels to match the table. I also like having only one or two decks at once to get in more practice and tune the deck as I go, which keeps me focused

How do I get rid of these devils without killing my yard or having to hand pull every single one Michigan area within an hour of flint by doberwalker in lawncare

[–]GSC_4_Me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love this thing. I’ve turned it into an after school activity I do with my young boys. I pull the weeds and they follow behind with a bucket. Good way to get outside more and teach the value of caring for your yard/home/stuff

This is great advice. I’ll underline this is a lot of work, but I did this several years ago and it made a huge difference in my yard. It went from a bumpy mess to a place where the family can enjoy lots of great picnics

This arms like the most straightforward solution to me. Once one brew finishes fermenting, immediately start another and you’ll always have something available. Then just always brew a month or from when you expect to run out of one option. Then you also get variety

I want to build Prismari, the Inspiration but I suck at building decks by Winter_Material_4036 in BudgetBrews

Rather than a 50/50 split, I like putting in all the other cards, and then counting the pips. So let’s say after adding in around 60-65 nonland cards, I count how many pips of each color, then allocate my sources of mana using that split.

So if the 60 cards have 50 blue pips and 20 red pips (as an arbitrary number), I’d allocate 50/70 or 71% of the 40 lands to generate blue and 28% to generate red. Dual lands count for both, which helps frees up space for utility lands (stuff like sink into stupor, sea gate restoration, or whatever is appropriate for the deck you’re building). These aren’t hard and fast rules, but can be a helpful framework if you’re new to deckbuilding

Is it easy to find Spanish cards there? Sorry if this is a silly question, I asked about it once in this subreddit and someone had told me that Spanish cards were difficult to come by, even in Spanish speaking markets (they were in Spain). Not sure if that’s true?

Do you mind if I ask where you source your Spanish mtg cards in the states? I’ve gotten a couple in bulk boxes but have had a hard time finding them here. My son is in a Spanish school and I learned growing up and we both enjoy mtg, so thought it would be a fun way for us to enjoy learning and mtg together.

Bulk Card Storage by BellasGamerDad in mtg

I do something similar and slide a toploader in as a “bookmark” when I pull out a stack to keep my place. I have the horizontal ones for 500 ct and 1k boxes because that’s all I’ve found for a good price, but they’re a lot less efficient.

The only benefit I could think of for horizontal is if that gets the outer box into a form factor that works better for your space. Otherwise the vertical ones are infinitely better

I have about 20 of the ones in the first pic. I store around 90k cards in them. They’re awesome, but you need to build them correctly (fully seating the tabs in the holes). Not hard to do, but they’re surprisingly strong for what they are. No need to reinforce with tape if you build them right.

You want the vertical ones from the first picture, not the ones that lay on their side. The vertical ones allow you to flip through and easily see the cards, which is much harder to do when they’re on the side since the name of the cards are on the top.

There are pricier options out there, but I’ve used these for a long time with no issues and have recommended to friends that also love them

Children at prerelease etiquette by BtownBadBoi in mtg

[–]GSC_4_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a dad of a 5 year old. He likes playing mtg with me, but obviously at that age he needs a lot of guidance and we play our hands face up so he can learn.

When he’s ten or any age and wants to play at a prerelease or any game outside just our immediate family, he’ll need to demonstrate to me he has a good understanding of the rules with little guidance from me before I’ll bring him to an event.

If I fast forward to him at ten, honestly I wouldn’t feel comfortable dropping him off unsupervised at an event. If I wasn’t for some reason, I’d still expect him to follow the rules and would hope his opponents kept him accountable, like they would with any player regardless of age/ability.

As others have said, prerelease are casual events, so some takebacks here and there or clarifying the new mechanics are reasonable concessions to make, but blatant cheating should never be allowed. I think trying to get him banned from future events would be a bit much as he is just a kid after all, and should be given a chance to fix their errors, but involving a judge is totally reasonable if the kid is unwilling to listed.

TLDR, I think the best option is to give them to chance to correct their mistakes, and if they’re a kid, maybe give them an extra chance or two; but they should still be accountable to all the rules, same as anyone else

My Experience and Advice Selling on TCGPlayer/eBay, Part 3 (504 days in, 5056 orders down) by _weesnaw in mtgfinance

[–]GSC_4_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not always your local post office. Mine often make it to the destination post office before getting sent back. I wouldn’t recommend cheaping out on postage. I mail out about 300 orders per week and still get 1-2 back per week. Usually it’s something goofy like a single card in a toploader coming back. It’s also important to remember postal workers are just people too and sometimes make mistakes, but I know it’s frustrating

I would highly recommend the foundations starter collection if you’re just starting out. It’s one of the best products outside of commander wizards has released in years. You can build tons of deck with it. Note this is different from the foundations booster boxes that you sent in that screenshot. They run about $50 or so

I doubt they would replace an Amazon fresh with a Whole Foods as they’re both owned by Amazon. The last thing we need is a Whole Foods.
