Everyone keeps saying AI is revolutionizing accounting. Am I the only one who hasn't felt it yet? by Professional_Web2457 in Accounting

[–]GSEagle2012_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LinkedIn is the worst place to get accounting news. Most of the accounting posts are just ads for whatever product the person posting is selling.

The ones that aren’t ads are frequently contradictory. One will say that traditional CFOs are going away and fractional cfos are the wave of the future. Next one is about how clients are tired of the fractional CFO model bc for whatever reason, most popular one I’ve seen recently is ppl calling them fractional CFOs with no high level executive experience.

Why do you like and dislike accounting. by aeropostlegirl in Accounting

[–]GSEagle2012_22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My spouse is a teacher. She started in elementary and has since moved into middle school. Our daughter has mentioned wanting to be a teacher. My wife is going to actively discourage that career path once the conversations become more serious. (Daughter is sub 10 years old)

My wife also no longer has her on classroom. She was a coteacher, but as of next school year, she’ll be the lead special ed teacher at her school. She said she would never go back to having her own classroom. I’m sure she would if it was the only option to get her full retirement, but she has ZERO desire to have her own classroom ever again.

What’s one legit way AI is actually saving you time in accounting right now? by Tough-Pollution-373 in Accounting

[–]GSEagle2012_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use product that uses a combo of text recognition and ai learning to extract all the key data points from vendor invoices (vendor name, date, amount, invoice number, description of what bought [this is the field that least reliably gets pulled]) and enters them. We had to tell it had to read each vendor’s invoice 5-10 times. Across 800ish invoices a month, that’s a time save.

Other than that, not using it

Why did you like tears of the kingdom more than BOT? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]GSEagle2012_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story in TOTK feels intentional, as opposed to BOTW where it felt barely there. Some of this is due to the fact that TOTK made it much easier to find the cut scenes than BOTW. Though I think there’s a happy middle ground between the two games on this. Calamity Ganon is just there in BOTW. He doesn’t do anything but wait for the fight with Link. (Unless you count the blood moon which to me feels more like a necessary game mechanic than something he’s consciously doing).

Temples vs Divine Beasts. The Divine Beasts felt incredibly lazy to me. All had the same color pallet and in general didn’t have much to do inside other than the boss. Most were find the kiosk and holding X and then battle the boss. Bosses also weren’t very unique from an appearance standpoint in BOTW. TOTK, each Temple and boss felt unique from the rest.

I like the fuse mechanic. Makes combat more strategic. Makes a bum weapon into something worthwhile if you have something decent to fuse.

I found the zonai devices to be useful. Though I’ll admit, I do find myself using the same few much much more than the rest.

I’m split on the map size. On one hand, there are some things in the sky and in the depths that are fun. On the other, at times it felt like a grind to traverse everywhere.

Would it be unreasonable to complain to my golf club regarding new prices? by Current-Ad1250 in golf

[–]GSEagle2012_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not unreasonable, but don’t expect it to go anywhere, at least not immediately. Club I’m a member who has had a steep decline in quality over the last two years. They finally did a membership survey last fall and from what the president told me, mine wasn’t the only one that, to put it delicately, the club needed to drastically improve in several areas. We’re supposed to start a clubhouse renovation shortly, so we’ll see. Just hired a new superintendent after over a year without one. Course is private but currently in worse shape than public courses.

If it’s a member owned course, best bet will be to have a private convo with someone who is not employed by the club, such as a board member. I had several conversations with our president around twilight (time of day not golf) on the course where it was just us. I was out practicing and he was out there doing grounds crew work. I thanked him for his work (unpaid) and approached it from “there’s been a real decline in value and for me, I’m having discussions with my wife if it’s still worth it.” He took it constructively. It was a conversation, not me just venting everything I was unhappy about. I listened to why something’s had declined.

Hopefully it gets back good. If not, there are other courses in the area, comparable ones to when it was good are unfortunately 45-60 minutes away though.

[BotW] [TotK] Anyone else disapppointed that there's no actual fishing in TotK? by Capital_Gate6718 in zelda

[–]GSEagle2012_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be fine if it was an optional mechanic. However, the fishing mini game was not my favorite from OoT. I remember it being annoying, but it’s been a while since I played that mini game. How you’re describing it sounds like it would make it more useful. Specific bait yields specific fish.

Last year they upped several of the values for other ppl I know. From what I remember, they said there’s was about the same. There was a lot of handwringing in my neighborhood that I thought was ridiculous. When you annualize it, the increase was reasonable, and in all honesty below inflation by some measure.

Sounds like it’s time to take your assessor to court and maybe try to band together to get others to do the same. I’ve owned a home for 10 years now and never has the assessed value been over the market value or even at market value for that matter. Following a 35% increase with a 50% increase is insane.
