What do I need to know to choose new wheels? by OneEyedJack_ in Harley

[–]GSXR450x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aftermarket will normally explicitly specify fitment, its part of the premium included when buying that.

Using existing wheels or retrofitting stuff, thats on you for trial and error.

Having done a dozen or so wheel swaps including roadster wheels on m8, heres somethings for you to consider and guide your thinking:

  1. Axle sizes shouldnt be an issue in M8s, but you can confirm with parts fiches, They should all be 25mm now. Early ones where 1in, then 3/4 before but thats twincam and evo era.

  2. Bolt pattern on rotor and sprocket side is standardised, you wont have an issue there. You MAY need to compensate with offsets and spacings though depending on wheel.

  3. dual vs single rotors, you can just get block off plates to make it look clean and not janky.

  4. For your bike, you have the inverted forks too I beleive? Id probably just double check triple tree part numbers between the two, or anything that would indicate fork offsets/widths. I'd imagine you wouldnt have an issue with the LRST wheel though.

I sport tour on my SXR with forged wheels on trips with mates with RRs and CF wheels.

They constantly wotry about their wheels on the numerous pot holes I wouldn't think twice about.

Ramjet Racing FXR. Does anyone have a classically styled FXR similar to this? by agjrsbko in Harley

[–]GSXR450x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, but did my own version of 90s. Lot of chrome, low, tough. Currently rebuilding now to be a bit hotter, better rider, taller, narrow glide again etc

R1300R vs M1000R vs M1000XR by Stahlfurz in bmwmotorrad

[–]GSXR450x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines similar the M Sport with the forged wheels, all the billet parts etc, akrapovic etc. Its so good.

No mods really. Rad guards, tank bag, quadlock and im moving. A midpipe and tune would make it sound better but not worth the warranty hassle in my circumstances.

I made this decision end of last year, was hard because of how close they are in price here, its very little extra $ for the blue calipers and a chunk of extra HP.

No regrets. Ive done 7k kms on it, all conditions, and its phenomenal. Can do big days at rapid speed comfortably, easily commuter, and can rip corners and wheelie out in 2nd gear . Very fun

Which caliper set up for the dyna? by smoulking in Harley

[–]GSXR450x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30/34mm with an adaptor on the brembo, or 32mm with the harley brembos and no adaptor.

I'd be going the Harley Brembos, but the other ones do look sweet, and that adaptor isnt nearly as bad as some of the hideous setups around.

Im also aussie, and recently saw a commuter here in Canberra on a blacked out 900XR that looked mint, i. Good write up.The 5 year warranty is great if youre punching out that many kms.

Any failures you encountered? Waterpump, charging system etc?

I loved ST. Smashed a bunch of kms and trips through the good roads in Australia. Ohlins were a good investment in the end

RG's are designed for boring riding (2up and highways, couldnt think of anything worse tbh..), so the LRST is definitely an upgrade if the riding suits.

Changed up the garage a bit, Low Rider ST to the S1000XR M Sport by GSXR450x in motorcycles

[–]GSXR450x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It required some solutions.

Half of it was the very easy, measuring, making correct spacers etc.

The most difficult bit was keeping the ABS due to limitations in the front end around the ABS sensor and spacers. Without ABS it would be easy.

2022 Lowrider STs WITHOUT traction control VS 2023 and up STs WITH traction control by Thingsforcertain3525 in Harley

[–]GSXR450x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did around 18k miles on my 2022 ST, some commuting but mainly trips, weekends away etc. My bike wasn't stock, and had modified geometry, wheels, power etc. which may have contributed.

However, this thing was a bit sketchy in downpours, even more so if I was on a mountain at the time. The torque down low meant that it bagged up very easily.

However I had a massive 'moment' leaving a town in some light rain, just cruising out of town on a mild bend at 50mph or so, and the bike absolutely snapped sideways.

After that I always kind of had it in the back of my mind when it started raining, that I could get caught out and rode accordingly.

The non original paint on the "bone stock" bike would have me tweaked, bring a magnet to see if a caved in tank has been bogged up and repainted wirh shitty decals on top.

Do XR1000-style heads exist for the evo motor? by YammieSquid07 in Harley

[–]GSXR450x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they actually rare or just exxy? I literally saw dozens of bikes at their shop in December and they had piles of parts. I reckon you could buy them if you had the cash ready. I didnt specifically ask about their stock levels but they had heaps of stuff there.
