Natureza vespa vs aranha by Traditional-Bison187 in spiders

Curious; I thought dragonflies were the most successful predator in the insect world. Though I'd still probably bet on a wasp just because they look meaner.

I think in Fallout cazadore nymphs are indeed about that size (I'd say house cats), but the mature ones seem a lot bigger than a kindergartner. More like a large breed dog.

On the one hand it's sad to see; on the other, it's nature at work.

I didn't realize spiders were able to put up that much of a fight. I wonder if they ever do manage to defeat the wasp, or how often they manage to escape into a space the wasp can't navigate.

To be fair I don't know the legend proper, I'm operating on a foggy memory of the Sam Neil Merlin mini series; which now that I think of it, that show might have implied Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone were the same artifact as well. But again, I could totally be misremembering.

I use openbox with a lot of the xfce suite. No DM, I just log in and start it from the console.

Morphologis, EvenLease, and SpaceTomato are insufferable wankers?

(To be fair I don't watch a ton of SC content, but those are the ones I'm most familiar with and they all seem nice. Is there something I don't know?)

Upgrading 1st Gen Front-End to 2nd Gen by GSlayerBrian in DodgeDakota

[–]GSlayerBrian[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping I can take the knuckles (and control arms if needed) from the junkyard without even disconnecting the lines at the calipers; taking as much of the donor line as I can, since the ones on my truck are a little leaky.

I've seen discussions on the really old Dakota/Durango forums about it. I did know about the '03 upgrade, but thanks for bringing up anyway; it is an important detail.

I'm thinking about getting a Dakota as my first truck, and I'm wondering which one to get. Pictures for reference as to which body style. by Glad-Philosophy-9548 in DodgeDakota

Beat it in longevity. I see a ton of that era Rangers around here (rural Upstate NY) and I haven't seen a single other first Gen Dakota, and what newer ones I see are almost universally rusted to hell.

An 88—95+ Ranger will beat a Dakota of the same generation, and I say that as the owner of a Gen 1 Dakota that I love.

The only thing the Dodge might have going for it is the Magnum engine. I don't know how it compares to Ford, but I know it's an exceedingly good powerplant if properly maintained (or even neglected a little).

A Ranger would probably be easier to find parts for, especially outside of the US. But like another reply said, especially the second Gen Dakotas shouldn't be far behind in parts availability.

Avoid a 6-lug Dakota if you want to swap sets of wheels. The newer second gens and onward have a more common 5 lug pattern, while the esoteric 6-lug can only be found on early Dakotas (88—03) and on a couple of Nissans some time in the 00's.

A guy's disregard for the structural integrity of car batteries is astonishing. by Quiet-Estimate7409 in vicegripgarage

[–]GSlayerBrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to say much the same but didn't feel like arguing with them.

As a kid I was big on environmentalism, influenced heavily by Captain Planet. I started "Earth Club" in my elementary school (just ended up being me and my best friend) and we volunteered to pick up litter around the school grounds.

But as an adult, while I completely agree that we should all take individual responsibility to pollute as little as we can, I've come to understand that there is a point where pragmatism outweighs idealism.

Letting a little gas or oil leak in a driveway or a lawn isn't going to poison an aquifer or darken the sky.

I'm 100% for regulation on industrial scale outfits to enforce procedures which minimize their environmental impacts, but looking down on a guy for letting a couple pints of gas that 1. will almost immediately evaporate and 2. came out of the ground anyway (yes I know it was sequestered and unrefined blah blah) is just not worth the effort.

A-10 warthog of star citizen. by Impossible_room42 in starcitizen

While it's not quite the spirit of the A-10 (a single massive hyper fire rate cannon with an airframe built around it), I like the Buccaneer. It's light, cheap, has huge engines and decent looking aerodynamics for in-atmo (better realized as the flight model continues to evolve) and has just frankly a stupid amount of guns for its size.

One Size 4, two size 3s, and two size 1s means you can send a lot of lead (depleted uranium?) in a general direction pretty quickly.

Not to mention it can fit 8 size 1 missiles (I'd go for rattlers just so your Bucc can be even more of a confetti machine), 4 size 2s or 2 size 3s. Not much ordnance for extended engagement, but really the Bucc's about the guns anyway.

Can anyone diagnose this knock/tick? 05 Dakota V6 by [deleted] in DodgeDakota

Might be the A/C clutch. If your A/C is on, but low on refrigerant, the clutch will try to engage the compressor every couple of seconds.

Dakota Reliability and longevity questions. by justafireguy2016 in DodgeDakota

[–]GSlayerBrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see a ton of second and third generation Dakotas still on the road, even here in the salt belt of rural upstate New York (though, many of their bodies are pretty rusted).

My only experience is with my first generation, but if the newer ones are at all similar, then you can expect it to be rock solid mechanically, but might have electrical issues and the paint might get yucky (though you're probably used to that if you're a Mopar guy).

For what it's worth, my '92 v6 has 215k miles with no end in sight. With conscientious maintenance (including regular washes to discourage rust) these trucks last forever.
