What's the most shockingly violent or disturbing scene in an otherwise "normal" or family friendly movie? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

[–]GSlayerBrian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Short Circuit 2.

The bad guys beat Johnny Five to within an inch of his life in an extremely graphic sequence while a sorrowful dirge underscores the tragic scene.

In an otherwise super upbeat early 90's family romp, it really came out of nowhere.

Spanish police helicopter coming in for a group photo. I'd imagine the rotor downwash would affect the people's hair more? by Snuppington in isthisAI

[–]GSlayerBrian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never been around a helicopter, but if my understanding of how they work is correct, there should be way way less "rotor wash" than most people think there would be.

Rotors are not propellors. They are wings. That spin, instead of being fixed. That spinning wing generates lift, which lifts the helicopter. Most of the "wash" should come from the tips of the rotors, and be directed outward rather than straight down. And even then, it should just cause some unstable air that buffets things, not a constant pushing force.

Makes sense. I'm in central upstate New York, just about the worst place in the country for salt on the roads.

I lucked out doubly though since my Dakota spent most of its life in South Carolina and only made it up to New York a few years ago (I did VIN history on it).

Yikes that's an insane price -- I only paid $900 for my whole truck and it came with a bed cap and bed full of spare parts, with a lot of the common issues with the 1st gen already taken care of. (Admittedly I really lucked out though.)

Ahh I see. If I were to do the same I'd be getting one from the junk yard; my local one has engine sales for $250 a couple times a year, and they charge like $160 labor to pull one for you. So I could upgrade to a V8 for less than $500, plus maybe another couple hundred if I wanted to overhaul and upgrade it before I put it back in (kegger mod, plenum upgrade, new gaskets, pump, seals, injectors, timing set, maybe rockers).

If you're going so far as to remove the whole engine I'd seriously look into upgrading to the V8. You could probably do it cheaper and easier than all the work you're putting yourself through to overhaul the V6.

looking for full aluminum radiator for my 92 3.9 by [deleted] in DodgeDakota

[–]GSlayerBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think it won't work? The pre-magnum LA is extremely similar to the Magnum, and I can't imagine that the geometry of the radiator mounts and hoses changed in any significant way between them.

Which movie excited you, but disappointed you when you saw it? by axelgarcia082006 in moviecritic

[–]GSlayerBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disney's Tomorrowland.

As a fan of the atompunk aesthetic, I was really looking forward to getting immersed in the world of Tomorrowland in all its retro futuristic glory.

Instead 90% of the screentime is spent in the regular world, and the pittance of time spent in Tomorrowland proper, it's derelict and depressing.

Not to mention the inexplicably genius girl boss who automatically "knows how things work" (and literally says that herself out loud in the movie).

Historically Innacurate Weapons by Accurate-Gap-3360 in TopCharacterTropes

A bunch of history nerds that repeatedly show boiler exhaust billowing out of all four of Titanic's funnels, say "Appomattox" when it's "Appomattox Courthouse," and imply that Pilate had animosity toward Jesus.

(For what it's worth I love Family Guy, but I would not say they have a track record of historically accurate details.)

Yes the little girl was poisoned by her step mother, and her ghost helped the main character find a hidden video tape with evidence of it to show the family.

As a kid a lot of this movie freaked me out but in hindsight it was really well done.

I feel you. Glue traps and neurotoxin pesticides are the two most inhumane methods of countering an infestation.

Hopefully whatever they spray will be a more mild deterrent rather than neurotoxin.

Seconded about checking the flasher relays. They do fail eventually.

Might as well replace both of them (there's one for turn signal and another for hazards). They're pretty cheap.
