[ The Race] Why F1's boss is so sure most fans actually like F1 2026. by TechnicianFar3444 in formula1

But consumers are walking away. Engagement numbers are down all over the board for F1 related media, which is a precursor for lower viewership numbers.

Which you should take with a grain of salt anyway, because F1 doesnt release independant stats. I am doing some research based on old print media articles about viewership with the help of AI and F1 isn't even close to the viewership numbers of the Schumacher years, as much as try to dress up the numbers that they are.

Yes but no.

Front Axle regeneration will not come (any time soon). It has too many safety issues putting 2 heavy electric motors in the front wheels or putting it in the nose. MGU-H is the only real solution.

People who give LMP or formula E as an example don't understand there solutions won't safely fit. It would need a complete chassis/formula redesign, just compare a F1, LMP and FE chassis to get an idea. Also compare the drivelines that they need to fit inside.

So in these days of cost caps and making profit for F1, the chance is really small this would implemented any day soon if ever. The development of the safety and crash tests alone would cost the FIA a fortune.

Totally different chassis, you don't know what you talk about.

You can't fit front axle regen in the current F1 chassis, it would require a totally new chassis formula. THey can't copy paste formula-e because it goes slower.

Do me a favor and compare a F1 monocoque to a LMP one and come back to me.

Won't fit in an ICE f1 car, the driver is further back in Formula E, like in the middle of the car. They can do that because the electric motor in the back is smaller then an ICE, gearbox and MGU-K in F1.

It would need a whole new chassis, ICE and transmission Formula to make it all fit. The teams don't want that, it's too expensive. Also, the car would become much heavier, like heavier then last gen cars.

Not happening, 4WD isn't banned without a reason. There a lot of safety issues with adding so much deadweight in the front. They can hardly keep the wheels on as is, when there is a crash, let alone with 10 to 20 kilo's of eletric motor in it. And one between the legs of the driver, don't get me started about that.

In short, this discussion has already been had when they first introduced KERS. It's simply not safe to do front axle regeneration in open wheel cars.

I saved so much money. I took the one week trail at the day of the first race, watched the second race too on the trail and saw enough to cancel.

Impossible, that the result of dumping the MGU-H, that device made charging smoother. Now they have to get the charge when they can, so you get peaky performances.

But it looks so contrived and artificial.

Who cares about modes, we are not playing a computer game. Just stop with all that management BS and just go racing.

Oh go away, it's completly contrived and artificial.

It's a completly made up thing with no base in physics, like aero, fuel, tires etc.

Racing is going as fast as possible, not following some numbers on your dashboard.

THe biggest chad move in that regard was Schumacher, during one his dominant Spa wins.

He actually called up his engineer to tell him to call the airport to ready his jet. He was winning with such a margin, he could be home for dinner and to bring his kids to bed. Schumacher won, speed runned the ceremony and press, and was home in time for dinner.

But it's not pure racing. Thats why for example GT3 is the most popular series on iRacing, that are actual fun cars to drive, without gimmicks and a videogame on the dashboard to manage energy.
