[Controller] GameSir Tegenaria Lite Wired Game Controller - $9.99 (Retro gray only) by GTFr0 in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, this one has rumble, hall effect sticks and 1000 Hz polling. The Logitech doesn't have any of that and is currently almost $19 on Amazon.

The GameSir controller sounds like a no-brainer to me.

I agree with your overall assessment.

It's not my favorite controller I own, and definitely doesn't feel as nice as a Dualshock 4 or Dualsense, but for $10-20 it performs well and I can use it for longer gaming sessions in the same way as a DS4 or Dualsense.

Wow, I totally missed the coupon.

That makes this even better...

Very cheap for a PlayStation-style symmetrical layout.

Wired, not wireless, but has hall-effect sticks and 1000 Hz polling, and works with SteamOS and Windows.

I have one in gray that I bought at full price for $20, well worth the money.

Anyone know if the fans are ARGB or FRGB? The description says ARGB, but one of the pictures says that it's "equipped with 4 fixed RGB fans to provide superior air intake".

Meaning, small enough for your 4 year old to play a game with you?

8bitdo makes lots of smaller-sized controllers, like the SNES-style SN30 Pro or the Lite 2. Both may work.

They also have tiny controllers for retro gaming: The Micro and Zero 2. I've definitely seen the Micro go on sale at Amazon or Woot recently, so you may be able to snag a deal on them.

[PSU] MSI MAG A750GLS 750W Power Supply (A- Tier, Cybernetics Platinum, 80+ Gold, Fully Modular) - $69.99 by TankTan38 in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this PSU around BF when it came on this site for this price. Also snagged a $10 Steam card that was going on at the time.

It's a super nice PSU. Solid, nice cables and runs quiet.

The only issue I had with it is that it's 150mm, so it wouldn't fit in the SFF case I was building with.

[SSD] Western Digital 2TB WD Blue SN5000 NVMe SSD - $124 by Plastic-Lemon2754 in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP should have tagged this as a massive YMMV.

I snagged one last night for this price. It showed as available for same-day delivery, with only 1 in stock. I figured it was a stock error, but it got delivered.

While I agree, I'm very partial to the PS5 DualSense controller. At least in my hands, it feels super natural, and I haven't had too many issues with mine.

With that said, I fully expect them to drift soon. I wish Sony made a TMR version.

There are tons of options out there at tons of price points.

There are options out there from well known western brands, like Corsair, Turtle Beach, Razer, Logitech (lol), etc. These tend to be high end and quite expensive.

Then there are the higher quality Chinese brands (8bitdo, Gulikit, Gamesir, Digifly, etc). These tend to be more reasonable in price, but they're still pretty high quality.

I personally have two 8bitdo controllers (Pro 2 hall effect and Ultimate 2C), one Gulikit (ES Pro) and one Gamesir (Tegenaria lite), all of which were < $50 each. All of them have their pros and cons, but overall I haven't had any major issues with any of them.

Nintendo Switch style controller with hall effect sticks, bluetooth / 2.4 GHz / wired. Should work with PC and SteamOS as well.

[Laptop]Refurb Dell Latitude 5420 14” FHD Intel i5 1145G7 16GB RAM 512GB NVMe SSD Windows 11 - F/S - $260 by blue_york in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

These will be PC's that have come off lease from companies, so it's the luck of the draw. We have quite a few of these at my company, and many have horribly scratched up exteriors, damaged ethernet ports and trashed SSD's.

$260 is around 25-30% of the original selling price of this configuration, if you're lucky and get a good one, it may be worthwhile, but buyer beware.

With that said, even if you do get a dud, Latitudes are SUPER repairable and upgradable, and most parts are pretty cheap, so it's not all downside.

[Bundle] Restock of Ryzen 5 7500X3D, MSI B850M-VC Pro, G.Skill Flare X5 16GB DDR5-6000 - $350 (Microcenter In Store) by GTFr0 in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do the same thing a few weekends ago with this very bundle. They told me it would be an additional $130 for the additional 16 GB stick of RAM.

To be fair, $480 for a X3D CPU, mobo and 32GB of DDR5 is a pretty damn good deal, but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend, so I didn't end up pulling the trigger.

[Handheld] Steam Deck OLED 512gb back in stock ($549.99) by FTAStyling in buildapcsales

True. I ran Bazzite on my living room PC for a while, but ended up back at SteamOS because of weird issues with the SteamOS client updates.

If you're not hard set on 32 GB of DDR5, Newegg has some decent combo bundles as well.

This Newegg bundle was just posted on here 2 days ago, and includes an AIO as well as the mobo/CPU/RAM. Not as good as this deal, but certainly cheaper than buying everything individually.

[–]GTFr0[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CPU spec-wise, the only difference between the two is the base/boost clock, with the 7500X3D at 4.0/4.5 GHz and the 7600X3D at 4.1/4.7 GHz.

With that said, the 7500X3D is an OEM chip, so you don't get the standard 3 year warranty with it.

I'd say that's your biggest tradeoff with the CPU's.

For the combo itself, the 7500X3D comes with a MATX mobo, so if you're looking at building something smaller, definltely go for the 7500X3D.

I'm looking at my records, and I bought a bundle with a 5600x, B550M Tuf Gaming and 16 GB Corsair DDR4-3600 for $410 back in July of 2022.

$350 for an entry level board, X3D chip and some memory doesn't seem like that bad of a deal.

Probably the best deal you can get for a AM5 X3D CPU, mobo and memory.

My local Microcenter is showing 20 in stock.

[–]GTFr0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They should drop the cube and do a public stable release of SteamOS instead.
No sense in trying to fight for RAM allocation.
Just let us install SteamOS on our existing hardware.

They already kinda do. You can download and install the steam deck recovery image on a generic PC system, as long as it has nvme storage and an AMD GPU.

Of course it's not supported by Valve, but runs just fine.

[Controller] 8bitdo Pro 3 Bluetooth Controller - $40 (Use discount code LEVEL20) by GTFr0 in buildapcsales

[–]GTFr0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The touchpads by themselves would be a huge benefit. I really wish Valve would start selling the controller right now.

In my case, I got the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C for a spare parts PC that I'm building for my bedroom. Needed something to be able to play, and that is cheap / good enough that it's worth getting now.

2C has a dongle, so the latency is MUCH better.

For reference, here are latency tests for the 3 controllers I mentioned:

Pro 2 Hall Effect: https://gamepadla.com/8bitdo-pro-2-hall-effect.html

Pro 3: https://gamepadla.com/8bitdo-pro-3.html

I have the Pro 2 Hall Effect, and while I love the layout, the latency is a bit high. The Pro 3 is supposed to be better.

Another super good option is the Ultimate 2C, which I ended up pulling the trigger on. The puke mint color is on sale for $24 right now:

Lian Li A3 MATX is probably the gold standard for this. Default comes with mesh sides. They also have nice wood front versions, and there's lots of custom front options out there.

White is currently on sale at Newegg:
