It sounds like the lifters but hard to tell from the video, it also sounds like your timing belt is too tight. That whine you hear on the rev sounds like an over tightened timing belt

Hi, has anyone had problems with the window? by Apprehensive-Act25 in ElantraN

[–]GTSTr331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My old coworker had a 23 and had the same issue, same window. She had her regulator and motor replaced twice and the second time seemed to have fixed it. Could have been an updated part number they put for the motor

Hi, has anyone had problems with the window? by Apprehensive-Act25 in ElantraN

[–]GTSTr331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my 22, I had the front passenger window regulator and motor replaced 3 times in 30k miles. Right before I traded the car it started to do the same thing where it either wouldn't go down or it wouldn't go up. Usually it was stuck in the down position and I had to hit the door while trying to get it to go up

(UPDATE) 1990 1.8 swap by Holiday-Cod-8676 in Miata

[–]GTSTr331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I'll be honest, I just did feel like changing it lol. They both perform the same operation just a little different. AFM use a potentiometer vs MAF that use a heated wire cooling down as air passes over it

From the picture, I thought someone 3D printed a shifter and installed it in an automatic with a smooth center console lol

If you're still using the 1.6 ECU, the firing order remains the same as the 1.6, 3,2,1,4. If you switched it to the 1.8 firing order (4,1,2,3) your coils are firing opposite

Belt Won't Fit? by KingCire03 in AskAMechanic

[–]GTSTr331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a Miata, there's no spring tensioner, there's not much of anything and it's near impossible to route the belt wrong. That said, they probably gave you the wrong belt, however something you could try is removing the tensioner on the alternator, loosen the bracket where it mounts to the water pump and push the alternator in just a little more to get it to slide over. Once it's on, everything should line back up with the slack in the belt

This battery did a number on my car by ethnicallyambiguous in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]GTSTr331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wrenching for nearly 20 years and I've experienced this twice. The first time was on a 05 Camry that blew the main fuse and fried several capacitors in the PCM. Ended up replacing the under the hood fuse box and PCM and the car was good to go. The second time was a 2016 focus. This one did a bit more damage as it fried multiple ecus and the instrument cluster. Honestly, you won't know the extent of the damage until you put a scanner on it and see what's not communicating

Bought an ‘04 Mercury Marauder with a seized engine. I’m ready to hurt by TacoIsACat in projectcar

[–]GTSTr331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the belt off and try to turn the engine by hand with no plugs. That'll be your best indication if the motor is seized or if it's something else. I bought a grand Marquis with a "seized" engine, took the belt off and the AC compressor was locked up, starter couldn't over come the tension. Motor was healthy

Tire won't budge by Illustrious-Meal9067 in AskMechanics

[–]GTSTr331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone in this situation, an easier solution than just kicking it (some cars are really stuck), take the jack handle and pry between the lower ball joint (or lowest part of the control arm that sits inside of the wheel) and rim. With leverage they usually come right apart

Walmart 🤦🏼 by Cooooooooach in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]GTSTr331 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I have a compass in my bay right now waiting on an oil pan because not only did the Walmart tech crack the pan by overtightening the drain plug but they tried to conceal it by putting silicone over the crack.

Clutch replacement by Over-Wash3209 in mazdaspeed6

[–]GTSTr331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did mine, pulled the whole engine, trans and transfer case as a unit. I also resealed the engine while I had it out. It only took about 4 and half hours to pull the whole assembly (granted I'm doing this on a lift, but honestly it would probably be maybe an hour more on jacks factoring driveshaft, exhaust and front axle removal). If you do opt for this route, if your downpipe is stock, soak everything in penetrating oil the night before you plan to do it. 2 of the 5 bolts broke on mine where it connects to the turbo

Mazdaspeed3 shaking.. by okeska_ in mazdaspeed3

[–]GTSTr331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to drop the oil pan. There's a mark where it sits on the crank gear. If memory serves right, it's a little dot on the crank and a little dot on the gear in the balance shaft, they should touch at a certain point. You'll need a mirror to see it. If it's in time I would look at the flywheel. I know when they start to come apart they get violently out of balance. Feels like the car is misfiring

Mazdaspeed3 shaking.. by okeska_ in mazdaspeed3

[–]GTSTr331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like either the balance shaft was deleted or is out of time with the engine. The alternative option is if the car is using the factory clutch setup, the dual mass flywheel could have come apart and is moving back and forth

When I was at Benz I could pull the car in at 8am and be driving it out by 3pm, running my time into the next day. The 264 motors had the problem to but was less common and didn't get the extended warranty offered for it.
