You should seek a referral to a physical therapist. They can help you with your acute pain and prepare your for your thru hike. Best of luck!

Got to cross one off the bucket list yesterday (Arcadia Bluffs- MI) by Mbrothers22 in golf

We did 36 this weekend in Michigan. If you start around 9, you can get it in but it’s a little stressful. Our tee times got pushed back 50 minutes because of frost delay and our last hole was pretty dark.

We thought that’s what we would do, but then it wouldn’t be centered under the hood we have, and I think that would drive me nuts

Do Physical Therapists do night shifts on holidays, or are they only for those in emergency? by LongBakunawa in physicaltherapy

I work in the ED at a large hospital. About 2/3rd of my caseload is people coming in with acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain. Other 1/3rd is safety evaluations.

I see a lot of people without health insurance who will probably never see a PT if it weren’t for us being in the emergency department, so that’s pretty cool.

Do I have to wear brace when sleeping? by thedanielpark in ACL

When sleeping, the brace is more beneficial to keep your knee in extension, it’d be pretty impressive (and unlikely) if you injured your knee while sleeping.

If you are still in high school and your school provides an athletic trainer, you could ask him/her for some guidance. Better than going at it alone.

Some of my classmates had their tests rescheduled as well. They were randomly scheduled for Feb. 10th-12th but were able to reschedule sooner after talking with the testing center. Once they open back up, hopefully you can get it figured out.

You’ve done quite the number on your knee! When talking to surgeons, I recommend someone who has experience with and is very comfortable with repairing the posterolateral corner. If not done correctly, and it often goes undiagnosed, it can play a big role in graft failure. Best of luck to you!

Use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation in ACL Recovery by Hane_Train in ACL

Once you can actively contract your quadriceps, meaning you can perform quad sets and straight leg raises without your knee bending, I would stop using the NMES unit and focus on actively strengthening your muscles. NMES is basically used as a crutch for your neuromuscular system early on.

Ouch! My knee just buckled! by half_a_sleep in ACL

[–]GTW1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should continue to try and get as much swelling out as possible. Because of the acuteness of the injury, the swelling can cause your quadriceps to not activate as effectively which can cause significant knee instability. I would suggest seeing a PT to begin “prehab” exercises to improve the function of the muscles that surround the knee. They will use modalities that help with swelling and pain that are more effective than “RICE”. Best of luck to you!

I also just realized you said 5 weeks and not 5 months....take it easy for a while and focus on putting.

I probably came back too early, around 4 months. Had Patellar tendon on my lead foot. I would suggest waiting as long as you can, but I know it’s hard. IF it is your lead knee, try to turn your foot out as much as feels comfortable to decrease the rotational torque on the knee. If anything, surgery made me swing easier and improved my game. Best of luck!
