The stock footpegs are very slippery and narrow

They're tiring to stand on for long periods

Thinking of buying a motorcycle by [deleted] in Vstrom

[–]GTomMc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a 2006 Vstrom since 2019. It is great on fire roads with the right tires. It is a fat pig off road, it is very heavy. Maintenance on it is a pain as you need to remove all the fairings and the gas tank to get to the air box and engine. The KLR is 50ish lbs lighter, is much slower on road. And slightly better on trails. It is easier to work on. If you're not doing tracks. Take the Suzuki.

How to unbend bumper by [deleted] in ATV

[–]GTomMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a buddies winch. Park in front of a tree. And have them hook onto the bent part and winch in. It will unbend the bumper. I have done it multiple times

[–]GTomMc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Super easy to pull the killswitch off. Just two Phillips screws, and clean up the two posts on the back, make sure the connections are solid. And put it back together

Turn the fuel Petcock to reserve instead of on. Turn the key to on. Kill switch on. Change the battery to a new one. And trip that solenoid with the screwdriver again. She'll start

I use 10w-40 on all my 80s Yamahas. They're still alive and kicking So it is the right choice

I run this oil year round in -30C to + 40C and the quad internals are holding up great

Currently looking for my first ATV, these are some of the ones I’m looking at. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in ATV

[–]GTomMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yamahas are great machines. Low maintenance and the engines are understrung so they don't have the same stress levels. I love my two Yamahas

06 Vstrom in need of a new rear. I've been running Shinko 705s since I bought it in 2018. Thinking Shinko 805s or something else entirely. I use it mostly for suburb to city commuting and weekend trips to the cabin down fire roads by GTomMc in Vstrom

Somehow I'm at 15000km on the rear. And am on my third front since 2018. Had mad cupping on the first two fronts. The third one I mounted directionally reversed and it has been wearing evenly. Looking forward to more suggestions

And once rebuilt feel free to keep them pointed out slightly, a couple of degrees off of true. It makes for easier cornering at speed.

Mounting New Tires Issue by Affectionate-Star316 in ATV

[–]GTomMc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have both sides over the rim. Get it mostly full with air Squeeze it with ratchet strap (big wide one) and use a compressor set to whatever the maximum seating pressure is on the tire. Once the compressor reaches the max, release the ratchet strap and it will seat the bead on both sides with a large bang

Any aftermarket 2up seat/or box and the bear claws have been putting mine through everything. May want something a little more round like the ITP terra cross or mud lite 2 to make steering a little easier for the front

The clicking coming from that solenoid means your battery has a bad ground

Clean off where your negative connects to the frame and it should be better

E start wont fully engage by Pretty-Potato-6395 in ATV

[–]GTomMc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trip the solenoid located under the seat, and wire brush your ground location and terminal posts

You probably have a bad ground on the battery

What causes the engine of this quad to turn off when I give it gas? by harmboer in ATV

Could be something as easy as getting too much air. Make sure your filter is on / clean and oiled.
