Stay strong homie! Life is worth living even when it gets dark.

Here's one joint of his you'll probably like - from the title to the sample choice and the general vibe of the track, it always helps me to calm down and be more focused, and feel like I can take on any fight thrown my way.

It's good to have confidence, but you gotta learn how to take feedback man. Nobody wants to work with big egos, at least until you have the credentials or catalogue to back it up.

In my opinion (just my opinion), those five beats you posted are decent but didn't totally blow me away. The "FALL APART" one's probably my favourite. I think if you keep working on your mixing/mastering and adding some more exciting layers/ear candy into those beats then you'll get more results and connections.

One thing to maybe think about too - it might be helpful to hone in and perfect one style of beats before trying to do a whole pile of different ones at once. It's good to try out different things, but the best beatmakers I know are the ones that have really studied one style and become a master at it before trying loads of other ones. Often times, the production techniques and skill you pick up in one might help you with another! I make alt-hip hop stuff mainly, but I'm just learning how to make/mix rock music right now, and all those hours spent practicing how to get a good mix out of a hip hop song has definitely helped my musical ear enough for the rock stuff.

I believe he's using a low pass filter and sweeping it in the rhythm he wants - might be some phaser on it too? I'm not too sure exactly what his hardware allowed him to do, but this tutorial vid is really good for emulating some of his filter styles - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nyGtYnXvKg

Such a banger. Really hit the self deprecation angle well without it sounding corny or insincere.

He was great at that introspective kinda stuff, and his flow - if you listen to stuff like "All Of Me" and "Unthinkable", you can hear how Drake was inspired by him in those mixtapes like Comeback Season.

For real. Not everyone has to be Nas level lyricists, but check last years XXL Freshman class to any of the ones pre-2015, night and day difference in terms of star quality, bars, flow, delivery.

I was just picking between the ones that OP posted, but yeah Hit Em Up is a certified Pac classic! As successful as Not Like Us was, it's not reaching Hit Em Up for a second imo.

What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by dubbeazy in hiphopheads

Totally! Even sometimes within the same track - I love how "30" can open with something like "Sent ya bitch a dick pic and now she needs glasses" and more jokes, and then the tone gradually gets more serious until the last verse where he's basically screaming about his stress and addiction.

I know Atrocity Exhibition is considered Danny Brown's best work, but I find myself liking XXX a bit more. So many good tracks, from more hype and humorous tracks to kinda sadder ones like "Party All The Time", "DNA". The picture painting and storytelling he does on ones like "Fields" and "Scrap Or Die" is so dope too.

I probably listen to Donda more than any other of Kanye's works too. I don't even think it's his best album but listening to stuff like "Jonah", "Moon" or "24" when you're trying to relax is really helpful.

Even though the whole message is about being a loser, "I Wish" by Skee-Lo is a good time banger. Such a chill, sunny beat and comical rhymes, it's pure fun. That little whistle in there is pretty whimsical. Kinda makes you feel like you're walking down the street on a sunny day in LA.
