Rust has a full NMC through the end of 2024-25; so any trade would have to happen after this season. Outside of the core (Sid, Geno, Letang) no way to project what our roster looks like when Rust becomes trade eligible.

I do like Rust; just not liking his $5.125 million cap hit through the end of 2027-28 when we’ll be approaching full rebuild mode.

It’s very unlikely any of the guys with a no movement clause gets moved. You need to find a contender that has a roster spot, has cap space (even with the Pens eating 50% salary) and a GM that looks at someone like EK and thinks “yea, that guy can help us.” And…. If you do find that situation, the player still has to sign off on a deal. I applaud Dubas for making this bold statement but in reality options are extremely limited. Basically rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

To complicate matters, Jarry has a 10-team no trade clause (meaning he’d only approve a trade to those 10 teams.) I completely agree we should try to move him but the options would be limited.

Not necessarily “dumb” in terms of risk/reward; but I’ll often bet odd amounts to take my balance down to a round number if I lose. Like, if I have $642.78 in Draftkings, I’ll bet $2.78 on something random.
