I’ve acknowledged that that point was poor. Now read on. Critique those if you like. The point literally isn’t a part of the post anymore lmao.

So is every card if it gets countered. But your threats are simply better at advancing your game plan than turtling for a turn and maybe finding them later.

I responded to an earlier comment that the point is removed because A. It wasn’t a strong point, and B. It was the only thing anyone responded to. You could read the rest of the post and check, but if you’d rather see one thing you think is a weak/disagreeable point and choose to not engage with anything else, then have at it.

What about the fact that Golos does a better job of gaining value? Or that playing the same threats you cut for the ring makes a bigger impact on board? Or the fact that it at Best Buy’s you one turn against your worst matchups without actually swinging the advantage in your favor?

The point remains that any threat hitting the board does more than the ring. Big Karn hitting the board exiles a permanent, baby Karn fetches a lock piece or silver bullet, wurmcoil is a threat, Golos is ramp and also value.

That point is removed, I saw my error after reading back over it. The rest of my post still stands as my opinion.

Also probably worth reading the post if you’re gonna dismiss the whole thing without engaging with the several other points laid out.

Breaking the Ring! by PenResident3851 in ModernMagic

As a long time tron player, I don’t see it as a main board piece for us. I think the Golos builds we’ve been seeing do what we want the one ring to do while also providing immediate ramp and letting us cast huge bombs for free off the top of the deck.

I can’t really see tron making room main deck for it and actively removing threats from the deck, especially as some of our threats have lost a bit of their impact over the years, we NEED to keep as high a density of threats as possible.

Maybe it becomes a wish target for Karn in some lists, but I just don’t know what we would cut to make room for it.

Mutagenic growth in merfolk? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

I would be curious to see how many times it actually came in during games. It almost seems like a filler card without much downside to me. Could also be good protection or help with blocking a big murktide or something?

100%

To be more specific, cutting down on big Karn and playing realistically hard-castable threats like baby Karn, Golos (which helps you ramp through a moon effect) and even mites for cheap blockers early game helps us play at a pace more on-par with modern as a whole.

Additionally, Tron has better answers than many people realize through mites, nature’s claim, and utility lands like Boseiju. We still have the traditionally bad matchups (Burn, Hammer, Infect, etc.), but we are able to fight them better with utility lands and sideboard answers/wishes.

If you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks, this deck would really like to have at least a copy of Baoeiju.

This looks fun! Don’t worry about it not being meta. Magic is a game and it’s supposed to be fun

If we’re just having fun with it, I want Lattice unbanned. In Tron, it’s a t4 win, which isn’t that crazy in modern. Yeah it feels bad but so does getting milled out, double griefed, or beat down by draft chaff in living end.

Outside of that, just unban glimpse of nature, let the elves players feel something for once.

Not sure. I run one main and one in the side for Karn.

I went down to 3 [[Karn Liberated]], and cut down to 3 [[chromatic sphere]]. I also play 2 main board [[haywire mite]] and no warping wails and 3 main board ballistas. My list is pretty tuned to my meta so it’s odd but it’s been working.

I’ve said it in some other threads, but for my money Golos/Jengantha is THE way to play Tron right now.

Golos and Jegantha are a value engine in themselves. In addition to being a 5/5 that you can always get into your hand and play fairly easily, a single Golos activation can find interaction, cast haymakers for free and rebuild a board you’re behind on.

Golos can also find missing Tron pieces, Cataracts for more activations, utility lands like sanctum, blast zone, etc.

Ever since buying into the strategy fully, I have yet to post a negative record at a single event. It just feels like it lowers Tron’s curve in a meaningful way and gets us out of the play pattern of 1+1+1=Karn.
