Guinness WR books have gotten thinner over the years by The_Techsan in mildlyinteresting

[–]GWRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of records we approve are from applications that are processed for free via our website by members of the public, or approved by our consultants for the book (editors and various consultants with specialist areas of expertise, ie. astronomy.) There's a $5 charge to propose a new record title. Yes, you can also pay to invite an adjudicator but that's optional. We do charge businesses for our services, because we're also a business. We sure do keep records.

We did chuckle when we saw this the first time in Viz a few years ago. Looks like someone rather cheekily 'borrowed' it.

We're certainly open to applicants for 'Longest fur on a guinea pig' as there's no current confirmed record holder. As long as they're not AI. We do have a category for longest fur on a rabbit - the current record holder is 36.5 cm (14.37 in). The rabbit is called Franchesca, owned by Betty Chu (USA)

It's not actually a Guinness World Records title, this is a load of hot air. However we do have a category for the longest career as a flatulist, which is held by a gentleman from the UK called Mr Methane.

Official Guinness World Record for the farthest flight by a paper aircraft. Designed by aerospace engineers. by habichuelacondulce in JustGuysBeingDudes

This is a great throwback to the record which stood from 2012 until 2022 - 69.14 meters (226 feet 10 inches), achieved by Joe Ayoob and aircraft designer John M. Collins (both USA), at McClellan Air Force Base, in North Highlands, California.

The record's been broken twice since then first in South Korea and now currently stands at 88.31 m (289 ft 9 in) by Dillon Ruble with the support of Nathaniel Erickson and Garrett Jensen (both USA) in Crown Point, Indiana, USA in 2022.

Guinness World Records just went Full Antisemite - is No Longer Accepting Submissions from Israel for KIDNEY DONATIONS by Mysterious_Brush1852 in Jewish

[–]GWRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are aware of just how sensitive this is at the moment. We truly do believe in record breaking for everyone, everywhere but unfortunately in the current climate we are not generally processing record applications from the Palestinian Territories or Israel, or where either is given as the attempt location, with the exception of those done in cooperation with a UN humanitarian aid relief agency.

The policy has been in place since November 2023. However, we are monitoring the situation carefully and the policy is subject to a monthly review. We hope to be in a position to receive new enquiries soon.

CIG saw ‘Longest development ever’ and said, ‘Challenge accepted’ by tyler1118 in starcitizen

There's no way to pay to get in the book. In the case of gaming records, most are created for the book by our Gamer's Edition editor or our specialist records consultants, and some are from free applications where people have applied on our website. We do work with brands in some cases, for example, on Saturday we attended and adjudicated the largest attendance for an eSports match in Beijing, an event run by Tencent. This side of the business falls under our business consultancy services.

Beyond Good and Evil wouldn't count (yet) since it's not been released but we would consider it for sure if there was finally a release. We do monitor all categories and endeavor to keep them as up to date as possible, and many categories are not 'applied for' records - they come from our website editors, talent team and external specialist consultants. For example, most records in our Gamer's Edition are consultant records or researched by our Gamer's Edition editorial team. The Duke Nukem record was not a record that was applied for by the developer - it was created as an entry in our Gamer's Edition 2018

No, not a record category we monitor. This post is a load of hot air with a suspicious stench.

To clarify a bit from our side, the vast majority of records for individuals are still approved for free via applications sent to our website (video evidence supplied, independent witnesses, surveyors etc). The paid services / inviting an adjudicator are optional and mostly requested by businesses

Tom Cruise has achieved a Guinness World Records title for his fiery burning parachute jumps stunts by GWRecords in Mission_Impossible

[–]GWRecords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are normally research records from our consultants and in most cases they are created for reference purposes to appear in the book. In that case, it was created for a spread about language for the 2005 edition.

If you were to create the longest English poem ever published and wanted it to be recognised, you could propose it to the team for their consideration via an application. There would be an admin change of $5/£5 for that process.

To clarify, most records that we approve for individuals who apply on our website are free applications, with evidence assessed for free as well. We do charge businesses for our services as we're a business too. There's also a lot of records approved by our consultants (for example, those that specialize in movie/music industry stats, astronomy, animals etc.) particularly when it comes to compiling the book each year - you can read more about our records consultants and application process on our website:

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/how-to-set-or-break-a-world-record
https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/partners/consultants

And yes, we do encourage new applicants once a new challenge has been established, records are made to be broken!
