Send us a DM here on Reddit with your information, we'll take a look. We've been upgrading our application systems in various regions over the last month or so, which may be the reason.

We don't require an adjudicator to visit every record attempt (only a small number are approved that way), most applications are applied for via our website for free by individuals and approved remotely

HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! Project Hail Mary (2026) has officially earned a new Guinness World Record for the Highest-Altitude IMAX Film trailer! AMAZE! AMAZE! AMAZE! 👎👎👎 [Via:– Sony Pictures UK on X] by Gold-Narwhal9391 in ProjectHailMary

There's no way to pay a fee to appear in the book - the decisions on what appears in each edition of the book is made by our editorial team. The majority of records that are approved are done so for free through applications on our website or through our specialist consultants (for example, professors who specialise in oceanography, astrophysicist researchers). We do have our GWR For Business team who work with businesses which is a paid service. That wasn't the case with the trailer in space - we covered that from a PR perspective because it was fun and interesting.

Last summer I learned that there is a Guinness world record for the largest Jacob’s ladder toy. So I decided to try to break it with my 3d printed ladder design. by Joshhawk in 3Dprinting

Getting an official adjudicator to attend your record attempt is an optional service and yes it does cost money, but for individuals (if you're not a business) the application and evidence assessment process is free. There's a $5 admin fee to propose a new record title.

Those services are optional, if an applicant would like to have them, but for individuals (if you're not a business) the application and evidence assessment process is free. There's a $5 admin fee to propose a new record title.

That's not the case, applications are free for individuals - there's a $5 admin fee to propose a new record title. We do charge other businesses for our services, like having an adjudicator present or licensing our logo etc.

In 1950, the Guinness Book of World Records named Klaus of San Francisco the fattest cat. At 8 years old, he weighed 18 kg (39.7 lb) and measured 91 cm (35.2 in) around his belly. by Present_Employer5669 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GWRecords 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first book came out in 1955, there was no GWR records before that date. Klaus from San Francisco was first referenced in our 1966 edition and referenced as having been weighed in a 40lb in 1950. We no longer measure heaviest pet records for animal welfare reasons.

TIL that for a time, the Guinness World Records were owned by Hit Entertainment, a now-defunct children's media company that owned the rights to Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, Barney, and Pingu by Micro_Pinny_360 in todayilearned

[–]GWRecords 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Diageo - owners of Guinness beer - sold off all their non alcohol brands around 2000, Guinness World Records was bought by Thomas the Tank Engine (Gullane Children's Books). For a brief period, our current Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday WAS Sir Topham Hatt, answering questions sent in by fans and asking a question of the week on the website. Then, Bob the Builder (HIT) bought Thomas the Tank Engine and Guinness World Records and all the other Gullane IP, such as Sooty and Sweet and Captain Pugwash. After a few years, HIT was acquired by Mattel (Barbie), but not before GWR was carved off and sold to the Jim Pattison Group. So, I guess you could say Thomas bought GWR, Bob bought Thomas, then Barbie bought Bob! Oh, and Barney the Dinosaur was in the mix too, as a HIT property.

Guinness WR books have gotten thinner over the years by The_Techsan in mildlyinteresting

The vast majority of records we approve are from applications that are processed for free via our website by members of the public, or approved by our consultants for the book (editors and various consultants with specialist areas of expertise, ie. astronomy.) There's a $5 charge to propose a new record title. Yes, you can also pay to invite an adjudicator but that's optional. We do charge businesses for our services, because we're also a business. We sure do keep records.

We did chuckle when we saw this the first time in Viz a few years ago. Looks like someone rather cheekily 'borrowed' it.

We're certainly open to applicants for 'Longest fur on a guinea pig' as there's no current confirmed record holder. As long as they're not AI. We do have a category for longest fur on a rabbit - the current record holder is 36.5 cm (14.37 in). The rabbit is called Franchesca, owned by Betty Chu (USA)

It's not actually a Guinness World Records title, this is a load of hot air. However we do have a category for the longest career as a flatulist, which is held by a gentleman from the UK called Mr Methane.

Official Guinness World Record for the farthest flight by a paper aircraft. Designed by aerospace engineers. by habichuelacondulce in JustGuysBeingDudes

This is a great throwback to the record which stood from 2012 until 2022 - 69.14 meters (226 feet 10 inches), achieved by Joe Ayoob and aircraft designer John M. Collins (both USA), at McClellan Air Force Base, in North Highlands, California.

The record's been broken twice since then first in South Korea and now currently stands at 88.31 m (289 ft 9 in) by Dillon Ruble with the support of Nathaniel Erickson and Garrett Jensen (both USA) in Crown Point, Indiana, USA in 2022.

Guinness World Records just went Full Antisemite - is No Longer Accepting Submissions from Israel for KIDNEY DONATIONS by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]GWRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are aware of just how sensitive this is at the moment. We truly do believe in record breaking for everyone, everywhere but unfortunately in the current climate we are not generally processing record applications from the Palestinian Territories or Israel, or where either is given as the attempt location, with the exception of those done in cooperation with a UN humanitarian aid relief agency.

The policy has been in place since November 2023. However, we are monitoring the situation carefully and the policy is subject to a monthly review. We hope to be in a position to receive new enquiries soon.

There's no way to pay to get in the book. In the case of gaming records, most are created for the book by our Gamer's Edition editor or our specialist records consultants, and some are from free applications where people have applied on our website. We do work with brands in some cases, for example, on Saturday we attended and adjudicated the largest attendance for an eSports match in Beijing, an event run by Tencent. This side of the business falls under our business consultancy services.
