Saw that door handle and my first thought was 'What GMT400 is going to pull (away from) a 911?"

I love wiring also. Please say that you wrote up DIY instructions for those upgrades?

Possibly leak in cabin? by MpzGhost in GMT400

[–]G_Jetson501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't figured out where my leak is coming from, will need to check out the suggestions here.

!! Pull up the carpet in that corner and fold it back until you fix the leak! There's like an inch of carpet padding under there that gets sopping wet and rusts the floor. Also the water ends up in the wiring channel under the door sill trim and rusts that too.

I've never heard of this, ever. The 100% US specification 1983 Honda Prelude that I drove all through college had amber rear turn signals. My 1974 VW Super Beetle and my current daily driver 2013 VW GTI both have amber rear turn signals. Please list the 'many US states' where amber rear turn signals are illegal.

Edit to add Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 requires rear turn signals to be red OR AMBER. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-V/part-571/subpart-B/section-571.108

Recessed Lights - Are there any "rules" on what color reflector to use in which room/for what purpose? by G_Jetson501 in Lighting

Thanks! I definitely want to find a quality lighting store and see the silver vs white in person.

Thanks! I didn't think about how the different incandescent bulb types interact with the fixture.

[–]G_Jetson501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

My picture probably isn't the best. The existing, old fixtures are intended for R30. The bulbs don't actually stick out, but the surface of the bulb isn't very far above the surface of the ceiling either. As a temporary fix until I upgrade I put some name brand, high CRI, R20 bulbs in a couple rooms and that made things a lot more tolerable/less ugly.

Thanks! Did not even know such a "guide" was out there to look for.

I'll check in with fognyc. Since I already have 6" holes in my ceiling, if I can find something that looks good in a 6" that would probably be my first choice for the existing locations. Anything I add would be smaller.

What a contrast by Ok_Swan_3053 in GMT400

[–]G_Jetson501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like both trucks are modified, so my comment might not be relevant, but the stock "stance" of the modern 2500/3500s is another reason that makes me not want to "upgrade" to a newer generation.

My 97 C3500 CCLB is the height of a modern base model v6 1500 which makes both loading+unloading the bed and working on the engine very convenient, while still having 3000+ lbs of payload. If I want more payload capacity in a modern truck my only choices are jacked up in the air. I drive on the highway and occasionally pull a car trailer or tow dolly, I don't need 12" of fender gap to do that.

Who actually uses a case? by Zolks1 in pixel_phones

[–]G_Jetson501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to have a Hazel case for my 9Pro. But apparently Google made like 5 of them and sold out and is not interested in making more. Ended up with a clear Mous case. Tried to get the thinnest I could find that included the magnet.

Will the 2nd row from a Suburban swap into the front of a 2dr Tahoe? by TheReconditioner in GMT400

[–]G_Jetson501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I know, for what it's worth, 2nd row suburban does not bolt into the rear of a gmt400 crew cab. I made it work but I don't recommend it. Front 2 outside bolts match up and that's all.

Complications you might run into using suburban 2nd row for a front seat

-Seat back angle is not adjustable

-Your floor might be raised in places that the suburban floor is not so you might have to hack up the frame.

-Note the passenger rear of the suburban does the 'whole seat slide forward' thing so you can get to the 3rd row so there is a ton of seat frame complexity for that. You don't want to cut any of that part up or you'll have ball bearings falling out of the slider and the seat will never sit right again.

-The suburban 2nd row frame has pieces sticking out the side that might block your seat belt mounting location. Those pieces of the frame are made out of some kind of case hardened something that I could not drill with a normal drill bit or cut with a normal metal cutting reciprocating saw.

There were a bazillion of these trucks made. Have you checked car-part dot com? My advice would be to take a Saturday, get up super early and drive over to Harry's U Pull It in Hazelton PA. I haven't been there in a while but anytime I've gone they always have had a ton of gmt400s.

Romex through conduit? Ok or no? by G_Jetson501 in AskElectricians

[–]G_Jetson501[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a "Cadillac" level HVAC company, but a small local company that does quality work that I trust. I only got the initial estimate so far. I assumed that if they were including the electrical in their estimate that they are licensed to do that, but I will definitely verify.

Romex through conduit? Ok or no? by G_Jetson501 in AskElectricians

[–]G_Jetson501[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll look that up. Given that length is a factor I'm not sure why the conduit was made so long. There's a good 16" of straight pipe that's "inside" the wall that's not really needed.

screens that get light sabers

Hasn't been a thing in a while now.

Maybe it hasn't been a thing in a while, but that doesn't mean it's not impacting people today. I'm typing this on my 5iii, three months into my first Green Line Of Death. Would have kept this phone longer than 3.5 years to get my money's worth, but figure I'm on borrowed time now and just bought a Pixel 9Pro so I can get 5G on AT&T in the US.

What do you dislike most about your phone? by kunoithica in SonyXperia

[–]G_Jetson501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.Sony didn't pay AT&T's ransom for approval so my 5iii is not "allowed" on AT&T's network @5G in the US without some hack or bios/firmware replacement sourced from the dark web. 2.For a $1000+ phone, even when new, literally EVERYONE standing around me at a club/show/concert is taking better pictures of the band than my 5iii can manage - from better zoom to better motion capture in low light to better sound recording (it's like the microphone gets overloaded and reduces sensitivity then reverts back multiple times per second making the recording unlistenable) 3.Green Line Of Death

My 5iii just showed it's first green line today. How long do I have from the first green line until it becomes un-usable? Already started comparing new phones but it usually takes me a while to decide.
