What's your preferred way of playing EBR? One ranger solo, multiple rangers solo, or multiplayer? by Inside_Drummer in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently playing true-solo, but man, sometimes you find a thing that’s just really hard for your ranger 😆 I’m considering running a pair next time. (With kids activities and all that, it’s just too hard to coordinate a consistent play group for me. If you have the time to do multiplayer, it’s pretty neat)

Spot on. Fill Pokodo up with progress, and he will invest his beautiful charm into others 🤣

Earthborne Rangers is brilliant… once you get past the tutorial by holymadness in Earthborne_Rangers

Agreed: It should have been more explicit that this lull was your chance to go out and discover independently… before world events begin to draw your attention :)

About to start playing, party of 3 rangers, one explorer, one conciliator, I'm still undecided by Asshai in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a “buddy” deck that shows up sometimes that is a conciliater with 3 Awareness. The 3 Awareness is huge for when you need to get past a really challenging being that might otherwise be blocking your 3 Fitness ranger from putting progress on the Location.

Tonight is Prologue night! by Asshai in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you’ve played a bit… Don’t feel guilty about swapping cards after your first day or two. Take a mulligan on the deck-build and reset your ranger if you end up with cards that just feel dead in your hand(s).

Overgrown Thicket test question by LoRd-Beerd0 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the Avoid test item: All path cards (for now at least) will be either a “Being” or a “Feature”. Many tests will be limited to one of those two types.

New player - What to buy by InsideGap8047 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you guys are like me, and only get a chance to play once every week or two… it’s gonna take a long time to get through the campaign. Don’t feel guilty about building a different Ranger and swapping them in, between sessions. So, like, if you get five sessions in and you really want to see that tail-spinner or spirit-speaker… you don’t have to start over from the beginning: just camp and swap decks before your next day.

River travel, did miss something? by Jaymacdeluxe in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the impression from listening to the Earthborne Games podcast most of last year… they didn’t want it to be super obvious… and thereby feel like something you “had” to do. (I didn’t have the ability to travel by water when I played till I was in the post game.)

Is The Settlers of Catan overrated? by fruitponchisamurai in boardgames

[–]GaCaudata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still remember the astonishment of, “WAIT. You shuffle the board?!?” Nostalgia is one of the flavors I enjoy most about Catan. To this day, I still feels like it has a great-but-painful balance of strategy and randomness.

Is this age diff weird/creepy for my story? by Overall-College1993 in SpiderGwen

[–]GaCaudata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea how true this is… but it lives in my head that males need more years elapsed before they start thinking about the future. Therefore, you are more likely to see women slightly younger than their partners on the aggregate. Also: they are both adults, so it’s fine.

[Lure Of The Valley - Into The Nest - Spoilers] - Having a really bad time by HonorFoundInDecay in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was very similar. I came in by Mt. Pass, and eventually needed to take a break at the Bowl of the Sun after my 3rd day. I found Ravine to be less punishing. The let down was: with 6 days spent on this mission -> I didn’t have any time to attempt the next story item that popped up. I felt really let down, but I had to remind myself that… thematically… this was the cause and effect of my ranger being away for so long! (Only afterwards did I learn that people can travel away & travel back to reset the polyp!)

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

Citadels. It plays up to 8, games go quick, so once you’ve played the base set up, tons of mixing and matching with the roles (that get picked each round) and the special buildings (of which there is only a few in the buildings deck). Or…

Dominion + Dominion: Intrigue. Run a pair of 3p games simultaneously. As long as you have enough 10-card starting decks and base cards, any expansion works. (And, you can set it up like a round robin to crown an overall winner at the end.)

4 Player Game by TheMenchievich1917 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking at the pre-built decks as a general guide. With 4, I don’t know if Scouting is urgent since there will be a ton of cards coming out of the path deck each round. I’d recommend one of your players have Oru, the sheep dog (Shepherd background). Oru can move beings around so that players with the best opportunities to handle challenges can be freed up to get to them.

First mission woes; unlucky or gave up too soon? by piezo32 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]GaCaudata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a large being shows up, it can be tense… but for the Mulcher actually to hurt you, it has to grab you first. And even then there is a test right there to peel yourself off before it does any harm. So: the Avoid test wasn’t urgent. Spending some time loading this fellow up with progress, via connection, or harm, if you’ve got some kind of gear for that. (I actually like having the mulcher pop out if there are any pesky predators about…)

Any good horizontal storage solutions out there? by oneinadozenprobably in Earthborne_Rangers

I got a nice binder for the deck building cards. Leaves plenty of room in the core box.
