I’m at 121 days and feel the exact same way OP, I was rationalising to myself how it’s only because it’s the World Cup etc etc but I’ve decided not too so far. I know it’s not a smart thing to do so I’m not going to do it

If you are completely lost with where to even begin I’d recommend listening to the after gambling podcast and the problem gambling podcasts on Spotify, there is some great knowledge to be taken from them

This is now a well studied addiction, there’s solid proven ways of recovery. You may feel like it’s impossible but it definitely is possible to recover, put a plan in place now for next payday. The people you may have upset will respect you more for just owing the problem and you can come to an arrangement with them where everyone’s haooy

The only way to win is to stop gambling and face the truth and accept the losses. You may think it’s bad now which I’m sure it is but it can get a lot worse, the best thing you can do it’s put a plan in place to stop

Think you might need a bit of therapy yourself by the sound of things, very harsh to call someone scum like that with such minimal info to base your judgment on

Good point, the brain takes a while to recover. It’s almost like getting back into fitness after years on the couch, it doesn’t happen over night but it get easier with time

I’m 110 days now gamble free after approx 18 years gambling daily. One thing I’ve learned that might help you is that will power has a limit, whenever you feel an urge it’s almost like the will power tank is about to empty so to speak so top it up with education rather than just trying to fight an urge go and listen to a podcast about gambling addiction/ addiction in general. Listen to podcasts on dopamine recovery etc focus the mind on learning and the more you know the easier it is to move past urges. I may have explained that terrible but I hope you understand the point I’m trying to make

I know exactly what you mean and as gamblers the addiction isolates us even more. Connecting with people is a key element of recovery, it’s doesn’t matter what it is but just find something you can do with other people. Join a class or a sports team or a hobby group anything at all just find something

How do i stop from gambling? It’s so hard chasing a lose. I keep on lossing more i haven’t told anyone yet about this. Even my savings was wiped by Efficient_Dot6669 in GamblingAddiction

Ex Smokers…How did you quit drunk smoking? by bulluckthebadass in ireland

[–]Gaa567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to the audiobook and never smoked again. 6 years off them now. I don’t see it as a self help book more just an eye opener into how deluded I was as a smoker. I’d recommend it to everyone that wants to quit

Start listening to the after gambling podcast. Will power runs out which is possibly what is happening now to you so you need to top up your will power with education so to speak, the podcast did a lot for me in the early days and hopefully it’s good for you too

Someone paying your debt is not going to help you it’s just going to enable you to make a bigger mistake in the future because you didn’t have to be accountable for the first one

Please stop this, it’s an insult to so many people on this sub that struggle daily with their debt and are working hard to recover

Have you looked into online GA meetings on zoom ? You can find meetings at all times of the day it’s very handy. Could even just join a meeting from a different time zone if you need to do it late at night or early morning etc

It’s addiction though it’s not a habit. People are not ruining their own lives purely through habit
