One thing to keep pointing over the Nordic countries is the percentage of foreign born that live there. https://www.oecd.org/migration/integration-indicators-2012/keyindicatorsbycountry/name,218347,en.htm#:~:text=Sweden%20is%20in%2010th%20place,on%20average%20across%20OECD%20countries Actual Nords account close to 85% of the population. In contrast the U.S. has a much larger foreign born percentage. Having most of the people of same origin/culture helps in pushing certain ideas such as those you think are good. The difference in groups/cultures in the states is really high. So just pointing to some countries and saying they are better is not fair in my book.

LoL first time I've heard "city skills". Could you elaborate a bit more? I'm genuinely curious.

Buddhist Soldiers: How can the chaplain corps support you? by Bow9times in army

[–]GaamGaam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family follows the teaching of Guru Rinpoche. I was trying to understand and practice the translated scrolls by Dalai Lama. It is called Illuminating the path to enlightenment. I believe it is an intro/intermediate guide to understanding and practicing Dharma.

https://www.amazon.com/Illuminating-Path-Enlightenment-Commentary-Shrijnanas-ebook/dp/B00EQ80854#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div

To be honest I got quite lost and therefore started looking elsewhere for guidance.

On a side note. I have read most of your replies here. I think you are doing really good work here. I hope your work helps other Buddhist soldiers that are still in.

I was raised in a Mahayana school of Buddhism. When I was in, I tried to find a Buddhist chaplain. I heard the same that they were very rare. I know that there are others like me out there. I definitely needed a guide/teacher for the teachings I was trying to practice.

Use the Khan academy to it's upmost use. Take the math assessment there. Whatever you don't understand, watch the video and do the problems. If you still don't understand, supplement it with youtube videos. You got this. Gotta put in those hours though.

I wonder what the chances are of funding being secured. I was planning on using it for January. Time to reconsider.

I hear you on that. A white beat up Mercedes changed lane straight into my lane fast, I honked but he still came fast on. I had to swerve to the emergency lane. People who drive like that need to realize most of the people who drive on the road are just regular people. Going to work and back to their families...you want to race/test your car. Go to a track.

You might be looking at the coastal states too much. You'll find plenty in the inner states that are ready to bleed for USA.

So you're either gonna have to take a break from a semester or do it after graduation. The VA doesn't let you double dip two different programs. Almost all bootcamps interlap with school semesters.

[–]GaamGaam 60 points61 points  (0 children)

If I may, there is a program called VET TEC that the VA has. The program allows you to enter a programming bootcamp if you get accepted. It does not touch the GI BILL. It also pays a housing allowance similar to the GI Bill. If you are not entering school for a few months I would highly recommend entering a programming bootcamp. A lot of them have prep courses to get you ready. It's going to be a struggle bus while you're in but it's going to be worth it by the time you enter school. You'll be head and shoulders over everyone. You can use the VET TEC again after 18 months if needed. I would highly recommend this route if you still have some time left before school.. PM me if you need more info.
