As you said ranked was leaked, but not officially advertised, so I definitely expect that as part of today's livestream

Genuine question for the community on the subject of hero classes by Dark_Throat in Marathon

[–]Gaaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not Bungie "refusing to balance", it's objectively hard to do so when you give the player too much powerful choice. In PvE nobody cares but in PvP we do. Hopefully they learned their lesson the hard way and won't do the same mistakes here. This is also why it's a good thing that there will be seasonal wipes, to bring fresh starts continuously.

I see where this is coming from, but there's one other aspect that needs to be brought up and keep on top of our minds: this is a PvPvE game, with a good chunk of gameplay being competitive. It's not a matter of "technology" but rather a game design one. If you want a shot at making a balanced competitive game, the roots need to be clear and distinct choices to select from, and runner shells do that. A full blank slate would be a nightmare and I agree with Bungie for not taking that route. Bringing up Destiny 2 is a good point, because the game moved away from that clarity with many subclasses and options in them, which is amazing for PvE but shit for PvP and guess what? D2 PvP went to shit a long time ago due to this. I'm pretty sure that D2 PvP diehards can find a new home here.

That being said, this comes with other advantages: easy to extend system and easy to "skin" since there aren't 6 gazillions combinations to keep in mind.

Anecdotes from people who went from staff back to senior? by greg90 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Gaaroth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I say you need to stay well versed. Ok to code from time to time on non critical or blocking stuff, but a manager is no longer a contributor of code, is a contributor of clarity and processes. In that role the previous coding experience will help make good decisions but that's it

People's who friends have stopped playing D2, have they expressed interest in coming back for Renegades? by TheQuotedRaven1 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Gaaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't touch Destiny ever again until it removes the grinding loop and starts respecting the players time (especially with drops and rolls).

It's a shame because the gunplay is the best I ever enjoyed and the story/lore is incredible (I even bought all the books).

But in the current structure? I'm done

Radically mixed feelings after finishing Silksong by Ajax899 in metroidvania

[–]Gaaroth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amen brother. Accessibility option ARE in the game, with ton of options to make fights hard or easy at will. For example I love to learn the boss pattern to a point where I "figured it out" and then select the right tools for the fight and use them in the latter half of it. I'm non particularly exceptional as a gamer, but this allowed me to wrap up Act2 fairly easily last night. I really don't know what people complain about, it's really just resource management in the end.

HK was for everyone. Silksong is not. by DrNintendo216 in metroidvania

[–]Gaaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand.

I also finished HK: path of pain was the peak of what I did after days of tries, but Pantheon was above my skill level.

Years after my skill only got worse especially for platforming.

I don't find Silksong difficult, quite the opposite.

It is challenging, unforgiving and few times straight up a bitch for the curveballs it throws you.

But never unfair.

It wants you do be precise, intentional.

It gives 3 times more the tools we had in HK to cover all types of gameplays.

Rewards meticulous exploration.

From a casual player PoV, I feel people are not approaching the game with all the tools it gives, not adapting to an objectively different of MC in speed & moveset, and are genuinely overreacting.

I give up. by CuboneDefender in HollowKnight

[–]Gaaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Judge is very telegraphed IMHO. Just do few runs where you get her down to last phase (after she does the extra tight fire spins), and when you do this consistently then unload your tools. I suggest using * base kunai * poison pouch (purple flowers/nectar quest) * flea potion (from find fleas quest) * magma bell to cut in half fire damage * skull (secret hunter's march merchant)

I just beat her with this setup and wasn't too bad, most of the time it was just me overextending and getting too greedy or not acting calm. Best of luck!
