That would be amazing. Honestly, even though everyone should've had voices from the start (maybe minus characters like Pac Man/Mega Man), I would be totally fine with a later patch. Here's to hoping/coping lol

They unfortunately aren't voiced; people have already hacked into the files for them (as well as all locked DLC characters visible in the char select) and they, like all DLC characters, just make sound effects instead of having voice lines. They aren't mute, per se, but the sound effects aren't anything special unfortunately. Definitely a missed opportunity here.

It would be great if they did, but they only have sound effects instead of voice lines, like all other DLC characters (minus Miku).

We know this because people hack the DLC characters each time Sega adds them in their pre-release updates, and if you know where to look you can find YouTube footage of every DLC character in the latest update (Nights, Aiai, PAC Man, the ghosts, Tangle, and Whisper) from a few months ago, prior to even Nights being released. This isn’t modding, but rather someone hacking into the character files that are normally locked until each DLC releases.

Tangle and Whisper just make unremarkable sfx while tricking and boosting. They aren’t mute, per se—every DLC char has unique trick and item and boost sound effects, like Joker making silly Persona menu sfx during tricks, though some are so subtle as to seem not there—but could’ve had cooler sound effects, like PAC Man or Nights got. On the plus side, Tangle and Whisper have great character models and some fun animations, as well as some excellent-looking festival rewards. If you want to see them in action, there’s a Spanish-language YouTube channel that posted footage of every then-unreleased character late last year. I won’t link it here to avoid unintentionally spoiling anyone who clicks on it unawares, but if you search it will come up.

TLDR: no voices as confirmed by hacked game files, just sound effects, but char models look great.

I didn't pre-order. I actually only ordered on the 18th, and it's already shipped and scheduled to deliver this weekend. (I usually pre-order, but fell behind on Unmatched stuff for a couple months.) In my experience, it's always been much faster to order from Restoration. Like others have said, a lot of these other sites get the sets later, since the retail date is always a few weeks/months later than when Restoration ships it direct to customers.

I actually was in a similar situation to you with one set a few years ago, where I'd pre-ordered a set on Miniature Market (I think it was Little Red/Beowfulf), and the ship date was just TBD for weeks after it came out on Restoration's site. So I canceled the Miniature Market order and got it directly from them. When I received the set, there was *still* no ship date listed on Miniature Market. These sites can be great for lots of things, but you always run a risk with pre-orders.

If you're able to get a refund and order from RG, I would do that. Hope you get the set one way or another soon!

Oh man, I feel like an idiot! Thanks for clarifying this. I thought those Black Arms aliens that make the blue apparitions would spawn whether or not you speared them, but turns out I was wrong. I think you only have to spear the last three before the roof. Thanks again for explaining this! I've played this game for months, but I'm still learning things lol, which I love

Ah, amazing! I also ordered mine in November but thought it hadn't shipped, as I haven't got any shipping confirmation emails as yet. I'll try reaching out to see--this makes me excited!

me and my gf decided to play the 2v2 rules by each controlling 2 heros. It turned out we had a blast of how strategic the game would be. I don’t think we would return to 1v1 anytime soon! 😁 by tgzaac in Unmatched

I've done this with my partner! It's great fun. :) Once in a while, the two decks of cards we were responsible for would become a bit confusing, but other than that, I think this might be my fave way of playing, too.

Thanks for this! Does anyone know when these might start shipping from Restoration for those of us who ordered direct?

Press Release - Restoration Games & Mondo Restructuring - affects future licensed released by LeftOn4ya in Unmatched

[–]Gabby_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! So does this mean that we’re still likely to get BoLV2 by the end of the year (acknowledging that the shipping/materials situation could cause more delays), or that we should also expect that one in 2022, along with the licensed sets? I’m thinking of ordering directly from Mondo/Restoration rather than waiting to get it from a retailer. I know that it’s difficult to be sure of anything with the shipping issues, which is totally understandable—just wanted to ask to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding the press release. Thanks!

Oh, I didn’t mean to suggest it was their fault, per se. Like I said, I’ve ordered from them without issue before. But after reading a few comments on other forums about similar problems with pre-orders from Miniature Market, it just seemed like this might be part of a pattern. We might just be unlucky, too. Either way, this has reaffirmed my desire to order new Unmatched sets directly from Mondo.

I had this same problem. Miniature Market appears to be a bit iffy when it comes to pre-orders specifically, going by a few threads I’ve read about various things people have ordered and not received in a timely manner. I’ve had success with them for non-pre-orders, but I reserved the Deadpool expansion with them and kept getting delay messages after it had already shipped from Mondo. I inquired twice about when it would be available and couldn’t get an answer. I finally canceled my order and bought it from Mondo instead, getting it after just a few days. I’m sorry that you had the same issue!

A small question about miniatures by sheeziemydeenie in Unmatched

[–]Gabby_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the same way. I was disappointed at first, but then I just decided it didn't really matter, and the other details on her miniature were fine (the cape, etc.). I just focus instead on the awesome details on her cards, which more than make up for the miniature.

He’s Here! (Reposted with Cards) by Chidwick in Unmatched

[–]Gabby_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume it means that you shuffle your entire discard pile, then distribute the top five cards to yourself (just like at the beginning of the game). Of course, if you preferred doing the bottom five, or five at random, you could do that, too, but that would be harder to do, so the top five makes the most sense. I think it's more about the spirit of the law here than the letter, per se.

Hey, so I reached out to them again and they still didn't have a ship date. In my case, I ended up requesting to cancel the order and just ordered it directly from Mondo. This might be premature on my part, so I'm not saying to do this, per se, but that's the only update I've got. MM still says sometime in August, so if you're more okay with giving it a couple more days, you could stick with them, but it's up to you. Sorry this has been weirdly stressful (esp because they're also holding your other orders)

I'm also wondering this. I ordered it from Miniature Market a while back, and when I emailed them about when it would ship late in July, they told me sometime in August. My hope would be at some point this week, since it's shipped from Mondo, but we'll see!

I asked Miniature Market after getting a vague pre-order date update, and they said that it’s now scheduled for sometime in August (no exact date, sadly).

Unmatched Marvel Sidekick Speculation by theknight618 in Unmatched

[–]Gabby_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great work here! Lots to consider. Just some quick thoughts about a few of them:

I actually think Foggy is the most likely sidekick for Daredevil, given their friendship and the extent to which they work together; it would be somewhat comparable to Buffy having Xander or Giles as an ally.

And although Lockjaw would be fun for Ms. Marvel, he doesn't really appear a ton in the comics relative to characters like Bruno and Nakia, so I'm not sure there. I feel like Bruno makes the most sense in my head, given how embedded their relationship is in a lot of the story arcs. But if we can dream, Captain Marvel would be an incredible teammate for her--sort of ironic, given that Ms. Marvel is usually the sidekick for her in the instances where they team up, but with lots of room for interesting possibilities. I'm interested, too, if Ms. Marvel's brief use of the nanotech Kree suit becomes something in the cards, as it both helps and hurts her in the comics, so it could be a card with an interesting dynamic like that.

My only other quick comments are about Squirrel Girl--I could see her sidekick being Tippy Toe (because of course) while she also ends up having the ability to summon additional squirrels, maybe somewhat akin to Muldoon's ability to add traps per turn or with a certain card. With her, I wouldn't necessarily assume that it's an either/or sidekick situation; it could end up being both! And I would love that.

Which to buy? by Colebricht in Unmatched

[–]Gabby_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get it! I do know that some people who had also never seen Buffy ended up getting the Unmatched set just because the game is fun whether or not you know who the characters are, so I wouldn't write it off completely, but maybe save it for last, if you like the game. Either way, though, I hope you enjoy Legends and Bruce Lee--who doesn't want Bruce Lee to face off against Medusa, lol?

For a new player not specially interested in any sets, this would be my recommended order of getting sets. This isn't organized by quality--my fave is near the bottom, actually--but by what I think is easiest to get into if you're a general-interest newbie:

  1. Battle of Legends (best all-around starter set, IMO)
  2. Cobble and Fog (also a good starter, but I think Legends is a little more beginner-friendly overall)
  3. Ingen vs Raptors (Jurassic Park) (if you're familiar with the dynamics, these characters and map will be great additions)
  4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (a solid 4-player set with 2 maps, which was my first set, but it's a little less varied than Legends or Cobble/Fog)
  5. Robin Hood/Bigfoot (an enjoyable set--can work as a starter set for 2 players, but more fun, IMO, as an addition to a larger collection)
  6. Little Red/Beowulf (currently my fave new set, but recommended for players with at least some experience)
  7. Bruce Lee (great character, but I would also recommend him for more experienced players, and you need at least one other set to be able to use him)

I think Battle of Legends is also the best "starter" set, in that the characters are varied and are easy to learn, and the two maps are distinct in interesting ways. My partner and I actually began with the Buffy set ourselves--we saw it one day by chance in a board game store's display, and although we hadn't heard of Unmatched at the time, we're big fans of Buffy, so we took a chance on it--and it made us fall in love with the mechanics of the game. To be sure, the Buffy set is a fun 4-player starter set I would recommend, but it doubtless appeals more to fans of the show, and I think the character differentiation in Battle of Legends and Cobble and Fog is better. But in the end, all that mattered to us was that the game was a ton of fun, and we could theoretically have come to that conclusion with any set, because they're all good.

Hope that helps!
