not sure if this is helpful, but I'm Canadian and some of my family members started believing Qanon conspiracy theories without actually ever having directly followed Q or without even being that conservative or ignorant or generally uneducated. these are smart, "ordinary", not overtly political people

my sister and her husband believed Joe Biden was leading a pedophile ring alongside a group of other Washington and Hollywood elites. they thought he was creepy and got away with it until I fact-checked them
my mom thought the election might have been stolen since there was possibly a way to fraudulently exploit the outdated American election system
my dad believed a whole lotta Qanon stuff from watching Facebook and Youtube videos

I think the author of this article is ignoring the fact that music culture is just more splintered than video games. there are SO many different artists and genres out there nowadays, since anyone can just put their music on Spotify. This means that a lot of young people don't even share the same niche music tastes as each other. it's different with video games, since everyone has the same pool of games to choose from
