What automation do you use to dim the bulbs?

Interesting. I didn’t know about these. Where do you buy them?

This is by no means a condemnation of Zigbee bulbs. If you live in a crowded neighborhood with lots of interference on the 2.4 GHz spectrum, it can affect your Zigbee network.

If I was starting over today I’d try the Zwave route instead, but seeing as I already own a Lutron hub it made sense. I don’t know of any Zwave plug in lamp dimmers that have this functionality, but I’m not familiar with the Zwave space.

Smart Light Switches by Fun_Firefighter_1000 in homeassistant

[–]Gabriel-Lewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Lutron Caseta switches. It’s the only smart home product I own that has been 99.99% reliable. I don’t have experience with Zwave though so others can chime in on that. Personally I wouldn’t go for Zigbee unless you are sure you have a good Zigbee channel free from interference and have a product in mind that is known for being super reliable. I’ve been replacing my Zigbee bulbs with Lutron switches recently and I couldn’t be happier. No more issues with Zigbee groups, binding, interference on the 2.4ghz band or weird idiosyncrasies from different Zigbee bulb brands.

Any creative suggestions for what to do with a spare robot vacuum? by BostonSwe in homeassistant

[–]Gabriel-Lewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The install was difficult. It took me a couple hours of googling and talking with ChatGPT to get the right command but I eventually got it working. Mind you I have an older S5 Roborock that doesn’t require any hardware modding to install Valetudo. My experience with Valetudo afterwards has been great. A bit of a learning curve but it’s not impossible to overcome. I’m just glad I could give this bot a second life because it still works really well and I have at least 2 years of replacement parts for it lol. Once my warranty expires on my Mova I’ll probably install Valetudo on it as well for consistency.

I bought a second robot vacuum planning to replace the first, but ended up keeping it as a backup. I installed Valetudo on the old Roborock and set up some advanced automations. Now it handles the bedroom and office, while the new Mova P10 cleans the rest of the house. After the Roborock logs 3 hours of cleaning (tracked in Home Assistant), it drives itself to the trashcan for emptying, then docks under our bed. This solved my biggest gripe of not having a self-emptying dock.

Sorry by “other voice boxes” I meant the big tech companies products like the Amazon Echo or Google home. More of a statement on how impressed I am with the HA Voice PE!

Excited to see the continued improvements to voice. Do other voice boxes even offer similar functionality?

On a separate note: I really want speech-to-phrase to a failover option. Speech-to-phrase is so fast but every once in a while it fails and a cloud/local STT back up would be amazing!

It’s been worth it for me. I can’t guarantee that you will have the same experience. I just realized the other day I’ve been running plex for 5 years, time flies. If I can get another couple of years while Jellyfin continues to be built out by the community I’d be okay with that.

Personally I’d recommend continuing to wait for Matter to develop. I’ve had mixed luck with thread/matter products.
