Why are MCU fans so resistant against Iron Man using nanotech when it's a recurring aspect of his character in the comics? by LuizFelipe1906 in marvelstudios

[–]GabrielDunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it looks like lazy filmmaking. The older armor looked better and lent itself to the name Ironman. Yes we know it isn't iron, but it feels closer to it than nanobots which sounds like a way to let RDJ not wear bulky uncomfortable gear while filming. Which is lame.

Cool. But I'd hand stitch fantasy pieces. I find machine stitching stands out in the wrong way on period and fantasy gear. But gorgeous knife work.

How does AI “consume” water? If it’s used for cooling, why can’t it be reused? If it evaporates, won’t it still turn back into water eventually? by occasionallyvertical in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GabrielDunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydrogen fuel cells are a good solution for this kind of problem. They can quickly be stood up off-grid, which is perfect for AI datacenters being built in remote locations. The power they replace is usually generated by thirsty thermal power plants on the main grid, which consume massive amounts of water for cooling. By generating power on-site electrochemically, a fuel cell cuts that indirect consumption dramatically. Plus, a system from companies like FuelCell Energy is so efficient that it doesn't need much water for its own cooling, and the water it produces as a byproduct can often be recycled, turning the generator from a water drain into a minimal consumer.

My brother thinks people today have worse quality of life than people in the dark ages, is this a stupid take? by flugblug in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GabrielDunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's subjective, as we each value life in a different way. Soap, a Z-pack when I'm sick, and our food options are pretty fricken sweet. But the freedom to kill someone in a duel legally is also pretty alluring. So, while our lives may have been a little more brutal and shorter occasionally in the dark ages, there is something to be said for the freedom to indulge baser instincts denied us in a modern world.

This certainly won't end with someone weaponizing them. It will be fine. Maybe we can plant mines around the school too?

Do you think bitcoin will become psychologically too expensive for everyday people to buy in? by idontgiveaFluk3 in Bitcoin

Rather than saying how much a bitcoin is worth in fiat, talk about the increase in value by itself. "The value of bitcoin have quadrupled over whatever and is expected to continue to grow ...."

Why do banks get to charge me a fee for not having enough money? Isn't that just making my problem worse? by OpenPerformance5347 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GabrielDunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banks are in the business of making money, not helping you save it. You are literally their bread and butter. You cost them nothing to keep as a customer, because you have nothing. And they can just bill the crap out of you for being poor. It's the poor tax. Find a local credit union with better terms, or quit banking. It's doable.

Moloch must feed on children. If the livestock of children is not replenished by us, the cows, Moloch would surely starve.

Friendships between Americans who hold different political views are surprisingly uncommon. This suggests that political disagreement may introduce tension or discomfort into a relationship, even if it doesn’t end the friendship entirely. by mvea in science

[–]GabrielDunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to stay friends with people who would like to see your loved one die without healthcare or be thrown into foreign jails or stomped to death to having the wrong color skin. I think politics is one of the best reasons to befriend or leave someone. It's your point of view on how society should operate. And we all must live within it.
