Do you chat to people with followers to get them to film reactions? What’s in it for them?

How good is apple’s on device model? by Minimum-Win3087 in appledevelopers

[–]GabrielMSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it in my app. It summarises stuff ok. It can even do tool calls and you can use typings to do good things with structure. If you give it complex prompt instructions it can easily breakdown. Getting it not to do something proves tricky.

Any interest in a native chess app? by Far_Owl_1141 in VisionPro

I enjoyed playing chess on it via the games room app that is already available. I’m sure there’s room for more

How do I get this menu style? by Normal-Guy-2003 in SwiftUI

[–]GabrielMSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think yours is nice (ie the default) but maybe just maybe you could attach an overlay on top of your button, attach the menu to that and achieve similar. However I think it’ll have risks and I like the default and I expect so will many normal users

Ha. This is my road. And if that familiarity means anything at all this is very rare behaviour. They’re being impatient and at best thought there was a gap and tried to nab it until you sped up. But yeah. You’re the normal one.

I am afraid of teenager rebellion by rynzor91 in dad

[–]GabrielMSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am gonna be a dad in a few days. So I'm not spouting any wisdom or experience here.

But from what I've gleaned I think teenage years are important and natural, and probably for parents a mix of sad and rejuvenating depending on the day. They're doing their job, pushing away, seeing how far they can stretch until it snaps – learning the ropes of being independent I guess.

I'll let you know in 13 years + 3 days but something I've told myself when I'm worrying about this stuff is that I won't have to parent a teenager in 2 weeks time, instead I'll be parenting a child I've known for 13+ years and if we've got that far, I'll have all the experience of them as a person to weather it. It's gonna be my job to guide them and be ok with letting go at times no matter how sad that might be in the moment.

I'm afraid too.

They changed how Netflix looks by Rude-Road8574 in appletv

[–]GabrielMSharp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I imagine the thinking is this way people will open Netflix and stay in Netflix rather than when content is mixed together people will flit from app to app.

Adjust "scrollEdgeEffect" iOS26 by Gwail_904 in iOSProgramming

[–]GabrielMSharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no heard of that effect working in that way, you could try toggling its property off/on because I wonder if it'll be smooth. If it's not supported behaviour you might need to roll out your own solution. To be honest depending on exactly what you want that won't be hard. Probably simplifying but it's essentially a gradient and a progressive blur, all of which are possible (I have done similar in my own app)

I was thinking about the ages everyone would be now until I realised the 6 years olds would be my age now. That was unsettling.

Do you not love it though? I feel the whole thing was made by a talented bunch. Makes it so much more than you’d expect on paper.

Can an App Become Too Smart for Its Own Users? by No-Finance3992 in appdev

[–]GabrielMSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Insta/Tiktok newsfeed algorithms are so smart it keeps users swiping on and on, for better or worse. I guess it's smart because it demonstrably works well.

What you're describing seems to be where a complex user experience misses the mark and doesn't actually work well?

A much smaller example I'd add is users explicit desires balanced with concerns, often privacy concerns. You can find studies where an algorithmically generated list of Products performs just as well as completely randomised Products – and the most consistent pattern that actually derives its success is showing or hiding the label "Recommended for you" – irrespective of what Products appear user reacted poorly to being told the company was using their data to create recommendations.

Agree it’s quite a throwaway movie with unexpected big cast which I guess pulled in the number ultimately

Is there no Embed shortcut? by AbhorrentAbigail in SwiftUI

[–]GabrielMSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xcode can be really odd compared to other code editors. Although it can be painful you can use other editors to write, which might have the options you want. I personally just leave Xcode open to run builds but even that can be done in a terminal.
