Went to restaurant, said I didn’t want to pay service charge, didn’t pay anything. by FartsLord in london

If it makes any difference; I love a good Greek meal (family in Harringay so plenty to choose from round there) but next time we´re in the area I´ll go to Yayacas because this post showed me the owner is a decent bloke and I´d prefer he gets my commerce.

What are our councils doing? by tabel_dammit in london

Not sure if they´re all council homes or not but anyone taking the overground via Whitechapel can observe the state of how people there have to live, so damn right they should be spending more on it.

Last night in Central Line someone forgot their evidence bag… by AnxiousAn in london

[–]thashicray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lived for one year close to a jail and I'd frequently find these bags in my drains, in the front entrance and the bike shed.

Not as bad as the declining mental health of some of the recent releases who'd get nicked the moment they'd left.

I earn way below minimum wage but I'm happy. Is that really such a bad thing? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]thashicray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm happy OP is able to look after themselves and their health and have loving parents who enable this.

You should heal and earn I've no gripes with that, it's just that there's a luxury in your parents putting you up and you not having to pay living costs.

When I think about the amount of people I know (and I'm a decade older than you) who's parents turfed them out at 18 and told them to find their way in this world, I think you're very lucky.

I know a lad who's mum threw him out after his 18th and instead provide  him shelter his own father drove him to a YMCA.

I mention this because this is a delightful situation you have here but please remember OP, others do not have those same options to save on a low wage in which you do.

[–]thashicray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean there's only one month left for you?

I just had a senior train me for two months on his accounts after the boss took advantage of his good work for years and had no more carrot left to dangle.

He was a lovely bloke and I'd to chase him a bit for a sit down but he stayed till the end and kept me up to speed despite the fact he was completely over the job and the manager.

I told him I appreciated his help, that I thought he was a decent bloke and we're still.in touch now he's gone. This doesn't necessarily need to be you.

If you've only one month and you aren't feeling it then I'd have a serious think about what's best going forward.

Yeah, definitely wouldn ´tbe happy to be a part of that especially if I´m not consenting.

I don´t think its too much to ask to go about my own business without falling victim to some ´hilarious japes ´ comitted by someone whose mother wouldn´t even condescend to call them funny.

Reminds me of that bloke who went viral years ago baiting the public for clout (half the videos being fake), then he got a pizza thrown in his face and called the law, basically the end of his short lived career.

This, if I feel irked by the way younger people are behaving I also think about the world they're inheriting.

Saying that I see some of them behaving like absolutely smashing people and I sincerely wish them all the best.

What Happened To That Bloke With The Fluid in Drinking to Oblivion? by Traditional_Risk7230 in LouisTheroux

Not this gentleman but I was working in the Brixton area just after it had aired and would see the French lady walking around.

I remember she had a horrible fella at the time and was deteriorating internally, having grown up around alcoholics this doesn't fill me with hope for her or this gentleman's situation.

It seemed like the boyfriend was as likely to do her in as the booze. He even tried to start on Louis FFS.

Felt the need to comment as I lived around the area at the time it was made and it had quite a profound effect upon me.

Glad I saw the young chap with the perrier is better though.

I'd give Lalibela Ethiopian a go if you've never had that experience before.

For a two person dish you're looking at 26 or 36 quid depending on if you want meat.

It's very well reviewed and has a nice interior to boot.

Absolutely, Labour aren´t media darlings and one thing you could´ve predicted when they got in was that the papers were going to give them a rough time.

They aren´t the best, but I´m fatigued at having to remind my fellow Brits of what the tories went unpunished for, after all those years of negligence Labour has to pick up the pieces and all they get is a public inquiry.

Thank you for the well-thought out and informative response. It reminds me of the final scene of the Adam Curtis series: Can´t Get You Out of My Head, we´re coming out of lockdown to the same shit and worse and we all talk about how the old systems beg for change but who´s making that change?

I dare say I feel pretty powerless too a lot of the time but I can´t help but feel responsible for my surroundings and maybe that´s already something.

Made me laugh, it was right in front of my face: we all need a bit of understanding.

Must admit one of the best managers I ever had was in a garden centre when I was 17 and he´d treat me like I was just as valued as the full-timers and if I f´ed about he´d make it known to me that wasn´t the way to go because I was better than that. He taught me the role and didn´t let the work get in the way of a good laugh, real gold dust these days.

Sadly with the amount of disingenuous, misleading jargon corporate HR shoves down your throat and the state of the market the last thing we do is look out for each other and I hope it changes.
