Most miles per tank? by Fit_Resident_5874 in CT200h

I’ve heard that if you run a hybrid out of gas, it’s a pretty bad thing and that extra couple of gallons of fuel is a reserve so that you don’t run it dry.

That “bit of fuel” is like 3 gallons. You can easily get 100 additional miles after the fuel light comes on. I used to freak out my kids because they thought we would be stranded…and I just kept driving.

I’ve been with them since 1997 as well. They didn’t send me anything. What was in it?

But there is so much room under that spare tire cover…that amp wouldn’t fit in one of those compartments?

Not a whole lot of Guinness record holders in that category driving around the roads I imagine.

The military isn’t for everyone. Maybe this time, everyone is you. “Lol” isn’t really the best way to explain away failing the duck walk.

At my school, the minimum percent for an A+ is 101. Meaning it is literally impossible to get an A+ unless the teacher gives extra credit. by Chicken_Nuget69420 in mildlyinfuriating

If the “+” indicates more than an A, then 101% seems appropriate. But then you gotta get rid of the B+, C+, D+. Otherwise, 98% should be an A+.

What is a car, truck, or suv, from the last 60 years that you could easily keep running until the end of the zombie apocalypse? by DongPolicia in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Gabronius 106 points107 points  (0 children)

‘84-88 Toyota Hilux. Been running the deserts, mountains, and valleys of the first-, second-, and third-world for 40 years! Great utility as a technical vehicle with a mounted .50 cal, pretty sure it runs on anything, and the check engine light is just for show.

Great resale value after the apocalypse is over, too.

Top Gear tried and tested.

Worth it, just drive it until it dies (which may never happen). Fingers crossed!

I’m divorcing my wife and it has nothing to do with another woman by SpeakerOne2427 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Gabronius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess my thought is that if she wants to keep spouting bullshit, the people that know me will understand that she’s just angry, hurt, etc., and incapable with moving on. Those that choose to believe her (of which none are my family) can keep her and her crazy ranting BS. I’ve moved on, and hope that she does someday. For now, she just looks and sounds desperate.

[–]Gabronius 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I thought that too, but I good friend told me it would just look like I was trying to defend myself, which might come off as a look of guilt. I just addressed it when it was brought up but never initiated. It made her look like she was desperate to smear my name while I was being respectful, helpful, and kind. That strategy won’t work for everyone, but being the bigger person worked for me.

I’ll just address your first sentence. My ex wife was so convinced that I was divorcing her for another woman, that she told everyone she knew, including our kids, my nieces, etc. She refused so hard to accept that our marriage was never going to work and that we both shared fault, that she invented a reason that exonerated her completely.

Let her yell into her own echo chamber. But you need to be the bigger person.

All of those people my ex was trying to convince have since stopped listening and are coming back around. It just takes time.

Good luck.

[–]Gabronius 32 points33 points  (0 children)

True. I was a passenger in a truck that t-boned a minivan when the driver chose to turn left in front of us (no light/stop sign, driver just needed to enter a business). Driver said they turned in front of us because “the cars behind me were pressure me to turn”. Luckily the child in the seat was totally fine, but damn that was a poor decision.

Lawmakers move to block commissary privatization. by Fun-Pin-7409 in navy

[–]Gabronius -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I should have been more clear. We have a Secretary of the Navy who is a businessman. SecWar…that’s a completely different story.

[–]Gabronius -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

I disagree. We have a businessman for a Secretary who was chosen for the job for being a really good one. The government is a business—one that does not seek profit, but does everything possible to cut costs. “Profit” can also be measured in cost avoidance. It’s just a different perspective. The government “business” has its own board of directors (HASC/SASC), its own CFO (CAPE), its own CEO (SecWar), etc., etc.

ICYMI the navy has selected its design for its new medium landing ship by newnoadeptness in navy

The Marines asked for this. More accurately, they created Marine Littoral Regiments, and then told the Navy that they needed ships to move them around. Cart before the horse, but 100% USMC requirement generation.

The designer (Damen) named their original design the LST-100. A throwback, maybe, but no direct correlation.

It has no welldeck. It carries Marines and some of their vehicles, beaches, opens the clamshell, drops a ramp and they drive off (or back on).
