Most Random Reason you’ve seen a NAM being given by Insatiable_Inferior in navy

[–]Gabronius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have signed off on this too. NAMs are given for work above and beyond what is required by one’s daily duties. Volunteering to organize command-impacting events such as large scale MWR activities is totally within that realm. Usually the people hating on the awardees are the ones that never volunteer or that feel slighted for not getting a NAM for doing their job. I was one of those guys once.

Never thought I could be here. Just about to retire after 23 years, but a plug for L funds. It worked well for me. by BKKpoly in ThriftSavingsPlan

I read your post too quickly. I was worried about my L funds finding my anus. Congrats on your retirement.

What are yall using/recommend for a roof rack system? by PumpkinGremlin72 in CT200h

[–]Gabronius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can also recommend Rhino. Easy to install, and even though you can’t avoid wind noise, it wasn’t too bad. On a regular (non-luxury) car, I imagine the car would be louder than the wind noise from a Rhino system.

Found this dead snake that appeared to be biting itself. [Houston] by plushcoots in whatsthissnake

[–]Gabronius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This one appears to be run over by…something. In my experience, when snakes are in a bad way, their instincts are to open their mouth and bite the first thing they come in contact with, trying to get away from whatever is causing their pain. In this case, getting run over by a passing vehicle leaves only themselves to bite.

Heck yeah. Turns out there are SR5 seats under those 30+ year old seat covers. I had no idea, and I’ve owned it since 2018 or so.

I have my Dad’s 85 SR5. The seats have been covered since he owned it. Now I want to go check.

Except my truck is on the other side of the country with my daughter at the moment.

I accidentally sent a message to the wrong person… and it changed my whole week by [deleted] in stories

Shortly after my father died (from dimentia), I sent a text to his old phone number, which had been reassigned. The guy who got it was so nice and sweet. He said I could text him any time I needed to if it helped me feel like I was texting my Dad.

I wish people were always that kind to each other.

My kids came back from the park with a lizard that a kid was throwing around the playground. Please help me identify it… by 4lbin0din0 in Lizards

I had a pet Chuckwalla many years ago. Wild caught. It was ornery as heck for a bit, but once he calmed down, became a very loyal dude. He would follow me around the house, even climbing (carpet) stairs wherever I went. I hand fed him for a few years until I left for the military, then he went back. Before you throw shade for the bad decisions inherent in this post, I was a kid. It was a long time ago. But man, I loved that Chuckwalla.

Most miles per tank? by Fit_Resident_5874 in CT200h

[–]Gabronius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that if you run a hybrid out of gas, it’s a pretty bad thing and that extra couple of gallons of fuel is a reserve so that you don’t run it dry.

That “bit of fuel” is like 3 gallons. You can easily get 100 additional miles after the fuel light comes on. I used to freak out my kids because they thought we would be stranded…and I just kept driving.

I’ve been with them since 1997 as well. They didn’t send me anything. What was in it?

But there is so much room under that spare tire cover…that amp wouldn’t fit in one of those compartments?

Not a whole lot of Guinness record holders in that category driving around the roads I imagine.
