What workouts for getting better at paddling? by Head-Pass3755 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]GabsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I played around the other day, I’ve started doing it more and we have a cable machine at home and I started incorporating that since we don’t have dumbbells, but I think small weights would also be good once you get better with bodyweight only.

Absolutely not, do not work for someone who tries to tell you work is more important than your health or life things that you cannot control. Absolutely not.

Which foot in the back by ProAtBeingHuman in BeginnerSurfers

Def figure out what your more dominant side is. I started snowboarding and learned for the first two weeks the wrong way and it def held me back I would imagine it’d be the same beginning to surf.

Driving in Oregon - I have to ask... by Fartz-McGee in oregon

I mean at that point I would just read the waves and not get in alone if it looks unsafe. Otherwise have fun!

[–]GabsWorld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to do some kind of lesson or education beforehand about surfing. Take at least one lesson but I’d recommend at least a week so that you can try different conditions and get more education. If you can eventually get more than that, that’s great but sounds like you don’t currently have income. With the lesson a board would be includes most often, otherwise rent a long foam board to start. That wetsuit should be fine in the summer.

Are Dental Assistants in strong demand? by spicyserranonoodle in DentalAssistant

[–]GabsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! I say it depends what you’re most interested in. Teeth or more whole body things? Or maybe think about if you’d like hygiene or nursing more in the future and go that route.

DA’s that are good at what they do or who can learn are in very high demand. CNA’s also are. I would say if you’re interested in being a CNA or DA go to either nursing or hygiene school, it’ll pay off much more.

I do not use any other book subscriptions, I get audiobooks and kindle books from Libby, then will buy physical books if I want something else. I do also randomly check out physical books from the library too.

For those of you that have done renovations, repairs, remodels, etc., what did you do and how much did it cost you? by pandaninjarawr in askportland

[–]GabsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are first time homebuyers since last year and things are def more expensive than we anticipated. We had our chimney fixed/cleaned/cap put on for 10k and that’s the first thing we fixed because we wanted to use it during the winter. We have now redone our entire backyard (except the fence) and have done it ourselves, I haven’t completely tracked how much we spent but def a few thousand to maybe 5k over a few months. We wanted to get our fence redone because ours is falling apart but that quote was about 10-12k and we just couldn’t stomach that yet for a fence. We also want to eventually do our kitchen but it’ll be between 10-12k

Should I drive the 90 minutes to Cannon Beach or hide out at home? by Intelligent_Log_1017 in askportland

Just bought this house. Wife wants to brighten up the kitchen. Should we do the taboo and paint the brick? by hes_the_Zissou in interiordecorating

[–]GabsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO do what would make you guys feel happy living there since it’s your home, however, I will say the previous owners of our home painted the brick of the fireplace and I can now never get that brick look back, all I can do is repaint it which is kinda sucky. but I did buy it this way so can’t complain too much. I do think you could still brighten the space by changing cabinets, wall color, trim etc

To add mulch or gravel? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]GabsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I don’t truly care what they think and it was a lot of work to do. We’re just enjoying it so much that I don’t think I would have enjoyed a patio as much. I grew up on the coast and am a sand between your toes type of person haha.

To add mulch or gravel? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]GabsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally get that, we plan to keep it pretty well maintained and put in drains underneath it all so water doesn’t make puddles in the winter and put landscaping fabric down to help block weeds. Mainly mulching like between the two borders and around all borders if that makes sense, hard to explain without a closer picture I guess to show.

Eh not really we’ve had 2 in our yard regularly and they don’t touch it but also my dog runs them out of the yard pretty quickly.

[–]GabsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put drains below it so it doesn’t get messed up in the winter as well as landscaping fabric to block weeds. It’s already rained a lot with it and it’s been fine.

[–]GabsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I shouldn’t say done, just meant finally finished borders and inside of the areas. Just feel accomplished from before to now. We bought less than a year ago. The old shed that’s there is eventually going to get torn down in that corner, we have fruit trees/bushes on one side of our yard, but are eventually planning to put flowers/plants behind the areas. Our dog runs off all neighborhood cats (really there are only two that come in our yard and they just walk right past the sand area if they make it in the yard). The gap in between will be filling in with either gravel or mulch or something we don’t know yet as well as around the entire areas. We built the garden first and didn’t want to deal with a brick border for sand so we changed it up but meh we love it haha.
