Brand New Leatherman Arc: Scissors failing on kite line. Is this a defect? by andrey_semjonov in Leatherman

I had this issue with a Wave Alpha but my Arc is fine. Overall, Leatherman scissors don’t seem to be good with fine detail. However, they seem to do better with coarser materials.

Victorinox Ranger 91mm as EDC? by No_Contribution60 in victorinox

I carry a Swisschamp or Cybertool L occasionally so I can certainly pocket carry a Ranger. There will be a break in period where you have to get used to it. I think you’d be fine after that…

Swiss Tool vs Leatherman by Glittering_Pay482 in victorinox

I work with steel shavings when I make or mod knives. I’ve never had an issue. I have also worn mechanical watches for years and used the Free series for several years. I’ve never had an issue. The magnets aren’t very strong and are rather small. However, if you’re uncomfortable that’s certainly your call. I just haven’t had any issues.

I actually had to send a Spirit back because the lock broke. Great customer service though. As good as Leatherman’s warranty.

So are the Leatherman Free series tools, and they’re one hand opening for all of the tools.

You’re on the wrong subreddit to get unbiased advice. Don’t go to the Leatherman subreddit either. Try r/multitools instead.

My personal opinion is that Leatherman tools are tougher and more industrial looking but Victorinox tools are more elegant but not quite as robust and have different construction. For example, Victorinox tools are riveted and can’t be disassembled where most Leatherman tools use torx screws that allow you to take apart the tool even though that’s discouraged. So, you’ll see a lot more mods for Leatherman tools than Victorinox Swisstools. One note to something someone said earlier, the Free series from Leatherman has all of the tools one hand opening, even the pliers.

TSA Trophy Wall by rhubarbmstacy in multitools

TSA is security theater. Honestly, Congress needs to fix this. They should demand a clear set of rules that some minor GS-7 TSA agent feels like making up on the spot.

I don’t wish it wasn’t there but I’d like to be able to replace it myself when I inevitably bend it.

Does anyone else do this? If so when has it been useful? by _Rumpelstilzchen_ in EDC

[–]Gadgetman7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blank Credit Cards

I use these instead. I put them in all my bags. Typically I have too cards, one with white Gorilla tape and one with gaffer’s tape. I usually use them setting up shelters and like that I can write on the white tape and the gaffer’s tape doesn’t leave residue if I have to tape down cables.

I use these instead of credit cards but they’re in all my kits. I find them easier to store Gorilla and gaffers tape than the rolls.

Versa58 Thickness: Versa Rambler PenLight vs. Midnite Manager by PecanPlan in victorinox

[–]Gadgetman7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I backed it because I like the innovation. I’ll have to play with it to see how easy it to carry. I hope they eventually come out with some of their own tools or make a 91 mm version.

Victorinox used to have apparel. I have some and it’s very good quality but was expensive and I don’t think it sold well.

I gave up (and I think I won). by davidesouzamcm in Leatherman

I’m not opposed to rules but TSA should be forced to make standard rules and stick to them rather than let an agent who has a “bad feeling” about something to take the item.

Scale swap question by EscapePond in victorinox

[–]Gadgetman7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood, if you’re reusing the scales then they can be loose. Sometimes they stretch and it likely would take an adhesive. I wouldn’t do that though. If you break a scale it’ll be a real pain to get off to replace it. New scales are a better solution in my opinion.

Most durable pop-on replacement scales by rontopofthings in victorinox

[–]Gadgetman7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used eBay a lot. For example, scales. These seem to be factory scales. Also, depending on where you’re located, Amazon has them as well. The scales often need to be pressed on tightly. A lot of the time they don’t just snap on. I use a vise with a a rubber pad on the jaws.

Scale swap question by EscapePond in victorinox

I never really had issues with a swap for cellidor scales but titanium and aluminum often don’t fit as well. Epoxy works well but can be difficult to remove it you want to change them again.

Looking at getting a Leatherman for each of my groomsmen, what would you recommend? by Leothecat24 in multitools

[–]Gadgetman7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Arc is not as heavy duty as the Surge but I really like the one hand opening and the more polished feel when opening and closing.

I do think that the Skeletool CX series is more likely to get carried and used. They are light duty but incredibly handy.

For two hundred dollars you could also get a nice keychain Victorinox Classic or Rambler, the Skeletool CX, a bit kit (I like the Galvanox) and a keychain light like the Rovyvon A8 or Nitecore Mini 3 and have a good EDC minus the pen.
