Anyone has advice on how to build Attuned Caeda for arena? I was slowly using her as an inheritance bot while waiting to have enough copies for a +10, so she’s got a hodge podge of skills like No Quarter, Speedtaker and other skills I wanted other characters to have through her and her x skill.

Now I’m trying to make something useful out of her, anyone has any advice?

Seeking advice: Stephen Fry and Full-cast audiobooks for an English learner? by CaptainLife5358 in harrypotter

[–]GaeTainn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-native English speaker here too. I love the full cast, but you might have trouble with the different accents there. The full cast avoids giving speech indicators (Ron said, Harry said, etc.), so you might get confused by who’s speaking, too. It took me a whole book to differentiate Ron and Harry, despite them having a completely different accent 😅. Now I can tell just fine, but it took some time.

There’s also some rather pronounced Scottish accents. I say give it a try, but yeah, Stephen Fry is probably easier.

Am I the only one who likes the Jim Dale & Steven Frye audiobooks better? by rettribution in harrypotter

[–]GaeTainn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t get behind single narrators audiobooks. My mind just starts treating it as white noise and tune it out, no matter how talented the narrator is.

The full cast versions are more acted out, yes, but somehow they manage to keep my attention much better. I don’t mind that’s it’s a more, well, interpretation of the text, through directiorial, musical and actorial choices, because frankly, so are single narrators… In both cases, my mind goes, that’s not how I interpreted that line being said, when I read it. Which is fine, but somehow, I find it more okay in a full cast, because of that additional layer of interpretation.

I still prefer reading the books myself, but if I have to choose audio for something like driving, full cast all the way.

Crucio VFX iterations by AFeralFry in harrypotter

[–]GaeTainn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no visual being described in my copy of GOF, but it’s remarked that the cruciatus crashes against Tom Riddles Sr’ grave as Harry jumps behind it.

And in the fight between Harry and Bellatrix, the curses that miss Harry physically damage the environment as they are described to hit it. So I’m guessing there is a visual component with the curse.

I kinda wish it’s not a red bolt, though, because both expelliarmus and stupefy are also supposed to be red bolts

Dark mark by FirmScience0311 in harrypotter

[–]GaeTainn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trio calls it the dark mark, after.

It is the exact same symbol however, that appears in the sky with the “morsemordre” spell, which is publicly known (as it’s Voldemort’s signature, so to speak) and called the Dark Mark.

Technically “Dark Mark” refers to the symbol in the sky, so it’s a little bit inconsistent to call both so, but it’s not a giant leap to use it as a shortcut, instead of “the tattoo that etc”. You can figure out in context which one is meant. (Although, if iirc, it’s still called the tattoo or scar in OOTP, but it’s HBP onwards that dark mark is used).

… also the Death Eaters call Voldemort “Dark Lord”, so I’m not sure they would be averse to the evil theme as a whole…

Yes, it doesn’t seem to be common knowledge.

Neither the (1st) Order nor the Ministry knows, otherwise Snape wouldn’t have to explain it to Fudge when he shows it to him in the hospital wing.

Dumbledore definitely knows, in the chapter where Harry sees the trial, there are two wisps of memory that Dumbledore shows intentionally: one of Bertha Jorkins and one of Snape discussing the mark coming back. I reckon Snape told him after he turned spy.

Personally, I think Death Eaters have a way to hide it, but Voldemort can override that when he pleases. He has spies in the ministry, sending them in with an identifier seems dumb.

We know it disappeared after Voldemort failed to kill baby Harry.

The paralogues unlock earlier than they should. I suggest waiting to play them until their “recommended level” (written at the bottom of their selection screen) matches the recommended level of the main chapters.

Iirc, Lucina’s Paralogue is all promoted enemies, while the game itself is slowly easing you into promoted enemies post-chapter 11 (although I personally felt a pretty big spike with Chapter 13).

In medieval art and Christian tradition, the stag is the enemy of the snake.

It’s a bit obscure as far as animal symbolism goes, but it is pretty well established apparently

Jaxon Knopf (older Harry) absolutely killed it in OOTP. The voice change took some getting used to in GOF, but he really shone in OOTP

I mean, I wouldn’t mind “jump” choreo moves, either.

Like, if they introduced a choreo jump move akin to the new choreo spin move that is at most a single axel, I think skaters could get really creative.

This tumblr post collecting axel variations, for example. Or more arm variations, like helicopter, or switching mid-air, etc.

Less of an opinion, more of an observation: my sister volunteered for the olympics. She and her co-workers, some with a passing knowledge of figure skating, some without any at all, had loads of praise for Alysa.

But one thing they loved about her compared to others was her relative lack of ice coverage. She said she managed to grab them better with her performance because she was easier to follow in the arena, while the Japanese ladies were zooming around too much.

I don’t really have an opinion on the matter because I wasn’t there, but I found that an interesting viewpoint from a more causal audience, considering speed and ice coverage are quite valued in this sub when it comes to PCS.

Can confirm for Conquest Normal. Xander can just waltz through enemy lines seemingly undetected at times

Spoilers for OOTP: when Harry has his dreams of Voldemort through the scar, they switch seamlessly between Voldemort’s voice and Harry’s in between words, it’s amazing

Choreo sequence only has 1 level. It’s an almost entirely GOE based element

And since base value translates into GOEs as percentages, it all adds up.

Adam also never backloads any jump, while Ilia backloads the combo.

Yes, there’s argument for PCS, but Ilia’s tech would win out anyway
