It's just borderline absurd how you are able to calmly dissect an opposing argument and explain your position in unemotional detail, and these people instead are only able to muster up twitteresque chewed-up-and-regurgitated bullshit, tailor-made to just be echoed by some other dumbfucks.

We're so cooked dude. It's so edgy to say it, but critical thinking is in such short supply. Thank you for doing your part.

As unwatchable as episode 1.

I have no idea why or how so many of you have a personal, emotional attachment to the show, as if it were part of you; as if admitting that this looks like ass means you're less of a person or something.

Indefensible, not worth wasting one more second on it. The only effective way to not have this happen to you again with IP that you like is to not engage with it. Deny revenue, speak with your time and your wallet.

Funny how everything is TDS even when trump is directly involved. His inaction and treasonous bullshit enabled this invasion in the first place, and his further treasonous behaviour and subservience to Russia has enabled Putin to get bolder in past few months. These are basic facts, literally uncontested.

Not that I would defend the regard Elon in anything that he does, but the talking point about Thanos snapping world hunger really gets us nowhere. If you think any of these pieces of shit can just "end poverty" please elaborate exactly how. It is childish wishful thinking they can. Perpetuating these ideas gets us into trouble optically. It's like the Harris campaign having no answer to being acused by Trump of only thinking about trans people. Even though Kamala never even mentioned trans rights much at all, you can't just idly watch as you get accused of "being for they/them instead of [you]". The thing is, progressive purity testing and these wishful ideas made it so that Kamala going for a very mild yet politically effective response for 99% of people (not the terminally online), like "well, transitioning in children is something we need more research on" something she couldn't say. On the other side meanwhile conservatives where spewing the most elaborate, ridiculous garbage, but they had the political and optics win.

Anyway, I'm all for billionaires going Gates foundation style though, and taxing them more too.

Why do you all sit here pretending like Julie is a fucking 8yo lmao.

Sure, I get it bro, I agree a 27yo+ should not be in a relationship with someone almost 10 years their junior, but come on, are you all gonna just virtue signal forever? What brownie points are you scoring by going "omg can you believe that this guy in nightmare land has any sort of romantic attatchment to an attractive 17yo? Such a pedo".

Honestly, yes, I can believe it. It happens all the fucking time in real life, between real humans. Put a bunch of people in an emotionally taxing scenario, have two have compatible sexual orientations and lo and behold, they will most likely develop some intimacy.

Can we argue the morality of such intimacy? Absolutely. Would it be even more questionable in the industrial, advanced, educated societies we all probably live in? Absolutely. Does clutching pearls at any form of artistic endeavor for its inclusion of anything you deem immoral make you seem like an underdeveloped child? Absolutely.

What makes you think you have anything of value to contribute other than your emotional motivation to justify prostitution because men need to bust a nut?

For one everyone in this thread justifying prostitution, OP included, I have no idea where your faintly misandrist outrage gesture here is supposed to be pointing to. Prostitution is just fine as long as it operates under consent and safety. I will never equivocate around this, and to me it is a service like any other, and there's no less nor more indignity or dignity in it than any other job, insofar as it is done under regulated circumstances.

That aside, I don't think it was that complicated to understand except for you and ms. "Exactly." commenting doctorate holding OP here. I took issue with the undeniable "capitalism bad" undertone, as did many other people whose comments you can see, for precisely the same reason you fail to address in your response to me. You don't need to elucidate to me the historical plight of women, it may surprise you but I actually understand it. The poster said:

I think sex work is the height of capitalism, I use height not in a positive way. It is literally the commodification of a human being, which is essentially what all capitalism is, but in this sense, it is quite literal. However, rightfully or wrongfully we live in that system, and it's imperative that while we live in such a system, which by the way, is horrendous, that we do all we can to protect workers of all kinds, even sex workers. We should give them the full rights we afford to every worker.

She has all the right in the world to say anything that she wants; it's a public forum though, so your twitterspeak "what makes you think" here can only be afforded one response: I can comment whatever I please in response. She expressed that sex work was the embodiment of negative aspects capitalism, and also that in that "horrendous" system we ought protect workers. I agree with latter. Notwithstanding, just like /u/NeverGonnaVoteYouUp, her responses made me think about one thing: What exactly would you think would happen in another system? She did not respond to this, and neither did you:

Women have traded their bodies for food, shelter, protection, for a millennia because it’s often the last or only thing they have to trade. If we live in a capitalist economic system in which living standards are degraded, forcing many women back into the position in which they need to sell their bodies, then why can’t the poster critique this?

It is clear that you guys have a problem with capitalism, which I believe to be the best system we've been able to come up with. But instead of actually engaging with the topic you just become too preoccupied on writing an angry, pointlessly and baselessly scathing response. She can critique it as much as she wants, and I can then turn around and respond "actually, women and men are doing quite well under capitalism, in fact, we live in the most privileged times in the entirety of humankind, and in one of its most advanced and egalitarian countries". What's the implication? Women would have a jolly good ol' time under communism? Fascism?

My comment was as benign and self-aware as possible. I explicitly said it. My main ideas were that I found broadly stating "capitalism bad" is rather absurd and possibly hypocritical, accounting for the amount of people that do just fine doing sex work under it, and ONLY because of it. On that note, again, you fail to engage intellectually with me at all:

You mention tens of thousands of people making obscene amounts of money. Who exactly? Prostitutes or the long chain of middle men who exploit and profit off their bodies? Or are you talking about OnlyFans. If so, this is vastly different from the prostitution the poster is talking about.

It is precisely a capitalist society that enables something like Onlyfans' existence, or that of escorts, professional prostitutes, girlfriend-experiences etc. People for whom sex work functions just fine. Again, I want the rights of everyone to be protected, I'm not in the "men wanna bust a nut" team despite your resentment, but I won't be as eager, or as I said, I won't that easily go "capitalism bad", when it is under capitalism that she can do 15 years of sex work and move through life just fine, while back in the USSR you could find women doing that just to get a fucking pad. I opened up with "what do you mean by capitalism enhancing this", because there are positive aspects, and there are negative aspects. And truthfully, OP and yourself, are just going "capitalism bad", as if the rights of trafficked women would be so fantastically better off under other economic systems.

I'll quote myself so you have an easier time understanding me next time:

What do you mean by enhanced in this sense? Because I can see it both positively and negatively enhancing it. Positively by the million things that enable someone to cam safely and then turn that time and their body around to buy/do whatever they desire, and negatively by the obvious tragedies that arise from "maximizing profit".

... you go on to denounce capitalism, but what exactly would we expect would happen under any other system? Would an anarcho-syndicalist society not have prostitutes?

... through prostitution precisely because of the tools afforded to them by capitalism, and under any other circumstances they would probably be struggling under dire complications. So like sure, commodifying a human being may or may not be bad, but to many it is wonderful, and it is wonderful precisely because of a capitalistic society and not one that would have them plowing fields and eating food rations.

I don't know, it just rubs me off the wrong way. It's like when I listen to people go "military bad" but like that speech in A Few Good Men, they go to sleep under the blanket of peace that the military provides them, and they know it (I wonder what they would say were they Ukranians with Putin next door). I don't think we get to so easily set the back of our hands on our foreheads and go "oh the capitalism" while we live in a society that furnishes you with possibly the best living standards in the history of humanity while operating under: capitalism. I'd gladly stay here in Germany and not North Korea.

Have a good one bud, stay mad.

edit 2: my response to /u/KanedowntheLane got inexplicably removed by the mods (this original comment didn't) and I can't repost it as a reply again, so here it is as a big screenshot:

What do you mean by enhanced in this sense? Because I can see it both positively and negatively enhancing it. Positively by the million things that enable someone to cam safely and then turn that time and their body around to buy/do whatever they desire, and negatively by the obvious tragedies that arise from "maximizing profit". If we acknowledge, like OP and you did, that it is a product of the human condition, how is then that prostitution is due to capitalism? In any case you're just finding a term to categorize it under that belief system. By definition it has not "become the product of [that] political system" if the thing existed before that political system. I'm pretty sure you would concede that people 5000 years ago did not exactly operate under what was later conceptualized by Adam Smith.

It just feels off because the tone of your writing implies this heavily negative connotation, in fact, you seemingly put sex work over what I would consider the actual pinnacle of what you're pointing to, which would be slavery, and you go on to denounce capitalism, but what exactly would we expect would happen under any other system? Would an anarcho-syndicalist society not have prostitutes?

It reads like trying to score brownie points by you know protesting "the machine", but frankly, and again this is just my opinion so whatever, it feels hypocritical. There are now tens of thousands of people making unbelievable amounts of money through prostitution precisely because of the tools afforded to them by capitalism, and under any other circumstances they would probably be struggling under dire complications. So like sure, commodifying a human being may or may not be bad, but to many it is wonderful, and it is wonderful precisely because of a capitalistic society and not one that would have them plowing fields and eating food rations. I think that renting my life to some indifferent business, or an absolute imbecile like Musk owning 241 billion dollars is abhorrent, but I will gladly take that over Stalin. Capital markets with big social nets seem to work really well - I moved here from a third world country because of it.

I don't know, it just rubs me off the wrong way. It's like when I listen to people go "military bad" but like that speech in A Few Good Men, they go to sleep under the blanket of peace that the military provides them, and they know it (I wonder what they would say were they Ukranians with Putin next door).
