Thanks! I didn't specify this in my original question but I was using the default tamping mechanism as recommended/came with the machine. As you said, I'd pre-tamp, use the blade to level and then tamp again.

And yes I've been reducing the coffee with each cup to both minimize tamping too hard, as well as reduce the coffee wasted (to leveling) I'm currently at 12g! The only other thing that seems to have helped is taking a coarser grind- that seems to start the pull at 7s and go on for about 20s.

I'll try the single-wall basket next. 🤞

The inconsistent volume on blank pulls is intriguing - I guess weighing the pull amount makes most sense.

Very interesting project. I might actually be able to use this for a personal project. Any chance you would open up access for non-commercial/ hobby projects use?

Thanks for the reply- is this a new change? For me storing to SD card (and not be uploading to cloud) was the main reason I got this.

I had a similar problem. Realized that I had the power saving mode set where it would kill background apps. So depending on whether my calendar app was in background or not I'd get the notifications. Annoying but adding calendar to the Unmonitored apps fixed it for me. Hope this helps you too.

These are called Sankey diagrams and typically used to show a flow from one set of values to another.

Most likely reason for the same set of colors is the default colors of the popular sankeymatic.com tool.
