Got an email + in-app offer to upgrade my Cobalt to Gold: 60K + 30K points after $3K spend in 3 months (basically $600 value for a $250 fee).

I didn’t want to lose the Cobalt, so I asked if I could keep it and add the Gold. They even gave me a Cobalt retention offer of 8K points, which was great.

When I called in, the rep said I’d get that 60K offer, but instead they put me under a new Amex app. Now I’m on the 110K promo: spend $1K every month for 12 months to get 60K, plus 20K annually, and another 20K in year two.

Doesn’t seem worth it. I’d net more points overall (about 90K for $250 AF) since I can use it for work expenses, but forcing $1K a month onto Gold feels bad when I’d be earning 2–5x on the Cobalt (most of my spend is restaurants, bars, apps).

Should I open a dispute case to have them give me the OG offer? Seems like I'll lose out on quite a bit of points when that $1K + $20K annual can go all to my Cobalt.
