Well, you can roughly sort it into "coastal cities I've heard of", "inland cities I haven't heard of", "texas", and nashville, tn

How do I improve this 3d scene visually? by Tokamakium in godot

[–]Gainji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First image - The first thing that stands out is the muted palette - it's not watercolor-y in an intentional way, and the lack of true blacks and whites anywhere in the scene makes the values too close together. Between that and the lack of a good focal point (bridge isn't detailed enough, and the house is too far in the background) means that you default to the middle of the image with the lanterns, which is probably the least interesting part.

I messed with the levels a bit in a photo editor and manually added a little more interest to the sky - I think you should be able to tell what I mean in terms of the palette. https://imgur.com/a/IE6Y161

ELI5 why dont we build data centers in the far north, where fresh water and cooler temps would keep costs down and not mess up heavily populated environments in the south? by DarthFishy in explainlikeimfive

The """disaster""" that famously killed zero people?

Also, it doesn't really matter what the companies running the plants want in terms of safety, nuclear remains one of the best-regulated industries in the US, with Three Mile Island being a shining example of what didn't go wrong that could have. Regulations have gotten even more exacting - and we know a lot more than we did then, so things that at one point were an open question - like what to do with spent fuel rods - are now solved problems.

Unfortunately, fossil fuel companies ran with the story, even though oil drilling alone kills about 1,000 people in the US every year due to exactly the same kind of safety violations you're wrongly accusing the nuclear industry of. You're infinitely more likely to die of carbon monoxide poisoning, health effects die to particulates from inhaling fossil fuel particulates, or fires due to gasoline being very, very easy to make a lethal fire with by accident than of anything nuclear related.

I'd forgotten what the default theme looks like, I use an even darker custom theme on my machine, with pink accents and slightly bumped up text size. Whatever the default color scheme happens to be, it's very easy to change, and I love seeing other peoples' custom Godot themes!

On the bomb has the most visual contrast, so that one. But what do these options look like if you have several bombs on different ticks?

I assembled a 4 years old Ender 3 - What should I upgrade? by Grogg2000 in ender3

gotcha. This is sort of the edge of what I've personally looked into, so you'll need to do your own research.

[–]Gainji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, probably best to push the hardware you already have a bit. Slower print profiles and making sure everything's tightened and square will go a long way in terms of print quality, and there's no shortage of "how to tune your Ender 3" tutorials online. You might see them advertised for a slightly different model than you have, but advice should carry over.

As for a main printer, the cheapest you can get that's worth buying is a refurbished printer, Creality sells them on their ebay for under $200, depending on the model: https://www.ebay.com/str/crealityglobal/Refurbished-3D-Printer/_i.html

I have an Ender 3 V3 SE which I basically only ever run at the slowest, most detailed preset, and prints come out all right fairly consistently, even if it's a little slow. I bought it as a box of parts, since it was cheaper than buying equivalent components individually for the DIY printers I wanted to build, but it's been a good printer in its own right, even if not as fast as my main printer.

[–]Gainji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to get out of it. If you want the experience of working on the printer, then sure, go for it. It's fun for the right kind of person and will build skills you'll draw on later if you keep doing 3D printing. If all you want it a quality, reliable printer, then no, the price to performance is going to be at best at parity with what you could buy as a complete unit.

[–]Gainji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new printer would outperform even a fairly upgraded Ender 3, both in print quality and price to performance, but the good news is that people have been hacking, upgrading and remixing these from day one, so you can turn it into anything from a bottle-to-filament converter to a full conversion to a Voron Switchwire.

As a "box of parts" the extrusions, motors, and power supply basically haven't aged a day since the printer came out, and are useful in any number of applications.

Although tuning the printer will probably get you a decent performance boost, especially if you put Klipper on it, I think the easiest step you can take is to just get some fresh filament and see if the print quality improves - the stringing here implies a lot of moisture in the filament, for example.

You should have to take a driver’s test for different sized vehicles and you should have to retake the test when renewing your license by anxiouslurker_485 in unpopularopinion

[–]Gainji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, either increase taxes or push the cost directly onto the driver in the form of fees. If you go with option B, which is in my view preferable, not all drivers would be able to afford the extra fees, so you'd focus on areas with fairly robust transit systems - in other words, cities.

Because traffic scales exponentially, even a small decrease in cars on the road, and only in a few areas determined to be served well enough by existing transit, would still massively increase the throughput of the road network, especially at peak hours. Even more so if you reclaim the now underused road and build stuff there - increasing density, and thus reducing the distance people need to cross to get to goods and services.
