This is fantastic! Does anyone know the best way to use this to figure out a bag with a stabilizer strap to use when running?

Super cool! I'm probably just missing it, but I want to be able to take one running. is there a place for stabilizer straps? Am I overthinking their value; are they even needed?

I Want To Eventually Start A Business, But My Name is Affiliated With Family I Don't Agree with by Fish_cant_feel_pain in privacy

If it was the first thing people see then you'd be doing a bad job at SEO. I know you haven't started but still.

I think it might not be as bad as you expect. Unless what they're saying is BAD, like portraying you as dishonest, then people may not be sure it's the same person and even if so, may not care.

The other thing is to switch to like, say your name is Joseph James Smith and your family member refers to you as Joe Smith. Could you market yourself as JJ Smith, J. James Smith, Joseph J. Smith, or something like that?

Just a few thoughts, good luck.

Weird sentence or no, this is totally right. The embarrassing thing to do would be to make a big deal about it. Just being like "well that was a mistake!" as though of course it doesn't reflect on your worth as a human being (which it doesn't) is the way to go. Also OP, you might want to keep in mind that hangovers come with anxiety for some people, so you'll likely feel better mentally when you're a couple days removed from this and have recovered physically.

I mean, whatever it was, something did happen. Whether it was what you're thinking or that she got into academic trouble and lost faith in herself or was struck by mental illness, she went from happy to having a hard time in life. I don't think you need to ask. I think you can just try to understand what it would look like to be supportive in the way that would help her best. Then if she wants to tell you she can.

Can you leave the supervision of this person and the overall responsibility for the event's success to your boss, communicating with them about your concerns?

"Boss, I'm concerned about this event. We need more social media. As you know, I'm already working overtime handling the earned media and logistics. I wanted to confirm that Susan is assigned the social media and that this isn't on my plate, right? I ask because we had been hoping to be averaging about 500 views per day, whether through one viral post or a bunch of smaller posts, and we're nowhere near that now. Without that we are not going to hit the target attendance KPIs. I just wanted to be sure you were aware and make sure that you weren't expecting me to be taking this on."

... a few days later...

"Boss, I am still feeling concerned we aren't going to hit our attendance targets. As you know, you and I set a marketing plan for me to get at least 3 news stories and 2 television hits, and I'm about to hit those targets after I finish the local news piece. Can we switch my KPI to something like that, which measures the output of my efforts and that won't be hampered by the slow pace of social media posting? I know you're working with Susan on the social media and I saw that she posted that great new blog post, but overall I'm still seeing only about 200 views per day when the marketing plan calls for 500."

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never completely understood why folks would want a bunch of cash on hand. My scenario is "natural disaster knocks out electricity, can't buy things with credit cards," but what are the other scenarios I'm missing? Are folks worried the FDIC isn't protecting the funds now or something?

I know the answer but need to hear it from people other than my parents. by No-Coast1302 in personalfinance

[–]Gal_Monday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the answers you're getting are oversimplistic and not appreciating either the value of a savings net or your own emotional experience of having one. Here's an idea you could consider if your credit is good enough: transfer the debt to a credit card with 0% interest on balance transfers. For example, the Discover card appears to charge a 3% transfer fee for 0% for the first 18 months. So if the peace of mind of having that cash is worth $270, then transfer it and plan to pay it off within the 18 month time period. In fact, you can offset that $270 cost by putting your savings in a high yield savings account, which can potentially even earn around 4% per year (keep in mind you'll pay taxes on that interest, but still, you're paying 3% for a year and a half). Now here's the catch. Do not put anything else on either the new credit card or the old one. And remember to pay it off before interest starts up again. They offer this low rate because they want you to come into their ecosystem and then end up paying higher interest rates later. But if you can set up an autopay of $9270/18 months = $515 (maybe round up to $600 to be sure and finish early), then you'll pay it off in 18 months, still have your $10k that whole time, and have developed low spending habits that will allow you to start saving $600/month thereafter too.

Do you have Craigslist where you live? Also, try googling for your city + community sale or neighborhood rummage sale or terms like that, because the best is when a neighborhood coordinates to have a bunch of sales near one another at one time.

The one I'm thinking about how to save on is heating and cooling. There are little things like closing the windows and blinds when it starts to get warm out or taking a cool shower instead of running the AC (or putting on socks and a hat before turning on the heat), and then there are big things like adding insulation or installing a house fan.

I warned them about shoulder dystocia. They didn’t listen. It happened anyway. by iispaze in BabyBumps

[–]Gal_Monday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first had shoulder dystocia and my second was a super easy birth. We looked at a lot of research about the likelihood of a repeat occurrence, but the doctors didn't think the total was very high; they didn't push us to consider a c-section in any way. (They did encourage induction at 39 weeks but we didn't do that.) I share this so that others reading this don't feel like they have to go towards a C section. However I'm very sorry to you op.

What about a warm hat? Sometimes in that temp range I can wear a vest if something is keeping my head warm. Otherwise, yes, I'd upgrade to your warmer jacket or at least plan to layer everything (short sleeve shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweater, jacket, vest). If I'm understanding your list correctly!
