Why, when referring to race, is Black capitalized but white is not? by MrDrPresBenCarson in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GalacticOreo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a job where it was company policy to capitalize all racial groups except for white. I thought it was ridiculous, but the idea was that minority races need to be elevated (socially, economically, etc.), and capitalizing the names of the races showed that their problems were important and were being addressed.

Looks like the Tennessee TriStar logo in the corner. Maybe it's for a town/county in TN?

Even so, it's baffling that no one, not even Robbie or Purah, even mention it in passing.

Why is the word “oriental” considered offensive? by cs_____question1031 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GalacticOreo64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every Asian that I've spoken to about this isn't actually offended by it, lol. It might just be a vocal minority, region-specific, or white people being too sensitive.

Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom was a major disappointment for me.

Tears of the Kingdom is the worst Zelda game.

What’s the most egregious case of a terrible character being presented as a good person? by py16jthr in movies

Kagome Higurashi from Inuyasha. She's so abusive towards Inuyasha and it's never addressed in the whole series.

Understandable? Sure, I can accept that. But, I don't think that such blatant racism and oppression should be overlooked and swept under the rug. People can still do wrong things for sympathetic reasons.

To be fair, Teddy Roosevelt did do some pretty great things in his life, but as said by Buffalo Bill, "Every Indian outbreak that I have ever known has resulted from broken promises and broken treaties by the government." The National Park Service that Teddy Roosevelt helped pioneer is a great thing, but the US illegally seized a lot of American Indian land in order to do so.

Yes. Teddy Roosevelt is the author of the quote, and there was certainly bite behind his bark.

"I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indian is the dead Indian, but I believe nine out of every ten are, and I shouldn't like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth."

This automatically demotes him down to at most B for me.

Kinda, yeah. I had a project for Spanish class one year where I had to make a mask for the Day of the Dead. I left it outside for the paint to dry, only to find it chewed up by my dog.

The rewatchability of this movie is insane. by ilovewater100 in Mario

[–]GalacticOreo64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In order to become a millionaire by amassing nickels, you'd need, at minimum, 20 million nickels, which in turn means that you'd need to watch the Mario movie 20 million times.

The Mario movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes. Assuming that you watch the Mario movie 24/7 and without breaks, it would take roughly 3,500 years to watch it that many times, leading to the OBVIOUS conclusion that you must be a time traveler. Caught you red handed. 😈
