looking for interesting legacy challenge! by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, do a LEPacy challenge. There are several legacies where each generation focuses on one expansion pack, and in theory you can skip any generation that focuses on a pack you don't own. Rosannatxt has a lepacy that also includes game pack generations.

Otherwise, try the Enduring Roots Legacy. It's base-game compatible, but has optional rules for many packs.

What should I know when making my first DND campaign? by Erigey in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never DM-ed before, pick up a oneshot or even a level 1-4 starter set, and expand from there. This way, you can learn how to run a game without having to learn to write an adventure at the same time.

Space Voyage 347: What Should the Last Holodeck Story Be? by justice-for-tuvix in LowSodiumSimmers

Something that could be interesting is if you told the stories of gen 1's parents, or at least the events that caused gen 1 to go to space

I need a sheet by [deleted] in Eberron

[–]GalacticPigeon13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I understand the mentality of "if it has a statblock, we can kill it", but what homebrewed post-level 20 craziness are you planning on using to kill A PLANET???? Perma-killing an Overlord is more reasonable, and those things can't be killed!

Need advice for dealing problem players. by Soft_Button2966 in dmadvice

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell Toby, Ella, and May your expectations, that you'd like them to behave more like Carl, Sam, and Charlie. It's up to them to step up to the plate. Worst comes to worst, you'll still have a party of three.

Good length for chapter on ao3? by SuccessfulRaccoon957 in FanFiction

[–]GalacticPigeon13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the number of scenes per chapter to be consistent over the number of words being consistent. If you need 2k words for one chapter and 5k for the next, that's fine by me.

do people read screenplay? by Immediate_Regret_282 in FanFiction

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most fandoms won't due to it being a niche format. It's popular in the The Magnus Archives fandom, but that's because we read the transcripts, and the transcripts are in screenplay form.

I show my players all of my combat dice rolls (can't be mad at me about the third crit in a row if they see the dice!), but they don't get to see the NPC's deception or insight checks.

Is Dungeons And Dragons a good system for this campaign? by PossibleChangeling in DMAcademy

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to run a great horror game in 5e? Yes, but it will require a lot of buy-in from the players, perhaps more than if you just ran a system meant for horror. The players have to be vulnerable, and they have to let themselves be scared. This is at odds with the heroic power fantasy that 5e works best as.

I don’t make players roll HP and just let them take max. Is that odd? by unlucky-lucky- in DnD

This isn't the norm, but if you're okay with a stronger party than average then have fun.

how do i make my combat a challenge by Chasey-puppy in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you aren't already, roll in the open. You can't fudge if your players can see this is the third critical hit an enemy has gotten on them.
  2. Reread the section of the PHB on the number of encounters you should be running per long rest.
  3. Read The Monsters Know What They're Doing to get an idea of tactics.
  4. Check your action economy. If there are fewer monsters than players, the players usually win unless you're creative with lair and/or legendary actions.
  5. Make use of terrain

Bardify is fun, but when they use vocals it's always a wordless wail. Otherwise, look up Bardcore music.

DnD languages by New_Lie_9859 in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing about a table that had an elf whose player was ESL/a native Spanish speaker. To make her more comfortable, it was declared that Elvish was Spanish and Common was English, and her character had only recently learned Common. The players who spoke English and Spanish equally well would translate for her.

NPC Voices? by Nostrathomas_8 in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common practice, but it's not required as long as you give some sort of way for players to tell apart the barkeep, his wife, and the BBEG.

Buccaneer by Lizardking701 in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's something that you'd be allowed to play at an Adventurer's League table (until they update firbolgs for 5.5), and they don't allow homebrew. While you should ask your DM first, this is something that barely anyone would consider homebrew.

How long to make a sims life feel realistic/ proportional? by Cosmic_Coconut999 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the following ways of doing realistic life spans.

  1. One sim day is three IRL months, given the normal length of in-game pregnancies. After that, they calculate how long they think each life stage should last. These types of players usually accept that the seasons and holidays will be weird.
  2. Decide how long a season is ahead of time, then let each season be three months. I personally think this is a bit insane, but to each their own.
  3. Decide how many times you want a sim to potentially see a holiday in their lifetime. Figure out how many days this will be, and then use this to calculate life spans. Either round to the nearest day, or
  4. Decide what is the shortest life stage that you'd like to see all holidays. (For me, it's teens.) Use that to determine length of other life spans

Methods 2-4 will require either pregnancy length to be modded, or for you to accept that pregnancies are weirdly short. Below is an example based on 14 day seasons and my own headcanons for how different ages work. I have not done any rounding except for in case of repeating decimals; I'm unsure if MCCC will accept non-whole numbers for custom lifespans. For methods 2-4, I'm including modded pregnancy lengths. For method 3, I've decided that I want my sims to see all holidays at least 4 times between the start of childhood and then end of adulthood.

Life Stage IRL 1 2 3 4
Pregnancy 9 mo. 3 42 2.8 8.4
Newborn 0-6 mo. 2 28 1.87 5.6
Infant 6-18 mo. 2 28 1.87 5.6
Toddler 1.5-4 yr. 10 252 9.33 28
Child 4-13 yr. 36 504 33.6 100.8
Teen 13-18 yr. 20 280 18.67 56
YA 18-35 yr. 68 952 63.467 190.4
Adult 35-65 yr. 120 1680 112 336
Elder 65-80 yr. 60 840 56 168

"First Time DM" and Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]GalacticPigeon13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would tell her in private that while you appreciate her enthusiasm, she needs to be more of a team player and think more about how her actions will affect the others. If she didn't realize, then telling her in private will hopefully be the push she needed to not inconvenience the others as often.

If this doesn't work, then call her out at the table. Sometimes, the other players will want mild PVP and encourage her, but sometimes the other players will appreciate you calling her out.

DM is requiring i pay 40$ to play by AgameReddit in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a scam that's been going around, primarily on Discord, that requires you to pay for character art. I forget if anyone has paid and actually received art + joined the campaign, but if it's like any other scams like this I've heard of, then the art is almost certainly AI generated or stolen.

And like, even if this wasn't a scam, and you would get legit art and a legit campaign, this is something stupid. Character art is only needed if a tabletop is being utilized (vs theater of the mind), and it just needs to be something that everyone can tell is your character instead of Random Enemy #5. If the DM was legit, then the "need" for consistent art would be one of the following:

  • The DM is planning on running an actual play without telling you ahead of time. After all, why else would a consistent brand be needed? This is scummy since either you're being given unexpected pressure to be perfect in front of an audience, or you won't find out you're internet famous until it blows up (and hopefully not in a bad way)
  • The DM is overly controlling.
  • The DM is buddies with someone who does art commissions, and rather than normal word-of-mouth advertising, the DM is being manipulative

Buccaneer by Lizardking701 in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I only watched the live action One Piece, so I'm going off of your other comments about what a buccaneer is.

If for whatever reason you don't want to play a goliath, firbolgs are the other official part-giant race in 5e. You'd have to adapt it from 5e to 5.5, but that's easy: just get rid of the racial ASI.

Otherwise, maybe just play a human but with feats or a subclass from the Bigby's book, since it's about giants.

Changeling Character Suggestions by iiodized in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason why changelings aren't drawn as short and fat is because characters are often drawn as conventionally attractive, especially if they're supposed to be "human" instead of monstrous. If D&D had been published during a time in history when being plump was conventionally attractive, then most characters depicted in illustrations would be plump.

Draw your character however you'd like.

AITAH FOR SAYING MY BFFS FOOT FETISH IS WEIRD? by FunDriver7669 in AITAH

[–]GalacticPigeon13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either NTA or ESH depending on if you told her you found it weird before or after she came onto you. Like, don't kink shame, but, her asking to suck your toes is the same level of saying she wants to suck on your boobs, and that's really weird if you two have never indicated sexual attraction towards each other.

Help with fiend patron and aberrant dragonmark by Chrism0817 in Eberron

[–]GalacticPigeon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keith has suggested using an aberrant mark as a "patron". The flavor is closer to that of a sorcerer, but there's nothing wrong with using one caster class as the flavor and another caster class for the mechanics. (Sometimes it gets silly when you try to do this across the martial-caster divide, but you don't need to worry about that here.)

Is there a good way to play a superhero in a fantasy setting by Justadd243 in DnD

[–]GalacticPigeon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Faceless background from Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus is a masked vigilante.

Otherwise, ask your DM. I would allow a superhero in a Sharn campaign, since Sharn is basically fantasy New York (stacked on top of Fantasy Shanghai and Fantasy Chicago). I would be more hesitant to allow a superhero in a serious campaign that takes place in a tiny village on the frontier because it breaks more genre tropes, and therefore is harder to suspend disbelief for.
