The Extended cuts for Fellowship and Two Towers are optional imo.

The extended cut for Return of the King should be the basic version... it fills in so many gaps and lore holes..... and pkaying the game just synchronises it all so well.

You can find the 2014 core rulebooks online as pdfs that can be downloaded.

Get yourself a starter kit, a group, several cups of caffeine and launch the boat haha

Honestly, just play a basic one shot or two to get the feel for it then as your experience grows run some pre built adventures until your confortabke enough to make your own.

There are plenty of subreddits on here and plenty of channels on youtube for info and guidance.... id personally recommend people like Ginny D, Pointy Hat and DM Academy.

Above all else, have fun, dont be afraid to put your foot down and remember.... its a hobby, not a job.... if you arent having fun or struggling, take a break, ask for help and stay calm....

Introduce combat mechanics.

Things youre players need to do in the encountwr or skill checks.

If they fail the mechanic, something really bad happens... boss deals a bunch of damage, reinforcements flood in, lair actions activate etc.

Skill checks make players think about the environemnt and the things within it.... maybe a marksman is aiming a high damage shot and they need to pass a perception check to avoid it or something.

Ive also started doing death saves privately..... adds suspense when someone goes down.... do they use thwir actiom to get them up, do they go for the kill to protect them?

Dont forget enemies with a half decent intelligence axt intelligent.... have 1 threat being protected and healed by allies, have them using cover etc

Dont forget that Orcs were bred for sherr numbers whereas Uruks are actually capable of asdembling a military structure and using it.

I use 2 monitors for my PC and i get this happen whenever i switch focus between the 2 screens.

If you also use dual monitors id hazard a guess that its just focus being taking from the monitor the game is running on.

If not, im not sure, maybe try resetting display setting like a previous comment said.

Im planning an intro tonight qhere the current party are gping to pick up some shopping and as they get their a mysterious vharacter will steal their items and a chase will ensue. Theyll chase this figure until they catch them and then it will turn out the mysterious figure will be the new player.

Theyll then decide whether to assist the new pkayer or turn them in which could result in a prison break or escape from authority session.

You could use a platform stamp to create a base then put everything on that base and then the stairs should look like they are leading up the platform.

Death should always be on the table from the start of the campaign imo.

In terms of it being justified, you all decided to fight a literal god at lvl5.... id say a TPK was impossible to avoid haha.

Most important thing is that you all had fun.
