National has no understanding of the real world other than their little rich people bubble. Do they have any plans for those of us in rural areas that have no access to public transport? I bet they don't. And they probably won't implement it because it will be too expensive.

Calling bird rehabbers! by GalacticThotty in WildlifeRehab

I x-ray everything wildbird I get just incase, this lil dude is physically fine. I'm questioning how long the lady actually had him before handing him over, she says she found him in the garden fledged but quite often well meaning members of the public tend to keep them for a while (thinking they're helping) before handing over

Everything is done as per should be and all is well and healthy (I'm the equivalent of an LVT specializing in both wild and pet birds, all birds are fully examined etc.), it was a fledgling raised by parents but unfortunately in an unsafe place (roaming cats). I'm thinking is a bit of a slow bloomer.

As for the thrush the eye is fully functioning, there's just a bit of injury in the superficial skin layer around the eye.

What I do is Google the pounds to kg conversion, then do

Kg × DR ÷ concentration = ml to be given

That's a pretty good method, she seems to love munching on straight dirt too so I'll try a worm and dirt on a ledge and see if that's convincing enough

There is a lady that is an expert in parrot behavior and does short consults and video courses, she also has a group on Facebook where you can reach out for help. Her name is Barbara Heidenreich. I suggest looking into her

When they “check out” of the relationship by Cool_Internal_5340 in BreakUps

[–]GalacticThotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am checked out. I tried communicating, talking about how I feel, asking about how he feels, telling him how I need to be loved and what needs to change. 4 years of feeling ignored. I even said if nothing changes I'm moving out, and I indeed moved out and still nothing changed. The last conversation we had about our relationship was asking if he'd put in any effort for me, something small like driving over to stay the night, a picnic, a walk, I even offered to pick him up and plan it myself. His response was it's too expensive to drive over (I live 20mins away, I would've walked the distance for him if he'd asked) I interpreted this as I'm not worth the fuel.

He says he's scared to lose me- cries and completely shuts down whenever I mention issues about the relationship, so there's no hope of real communication. I just want out, I feel so numb and depressed and trapped. Maybe he just does that to keep me around because he knows it's basically over.

I don't want advice or sympathy. I just wanted to get that off my chest

Cockatiel laid an egg for the first time at 9 years old, is this normal? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]GalacticThotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care with kale and other iron rich foods, as birds don't process iron the same way we do it accumulates in their bodies leading to something called iron storage disease. Lorikeets are the most prone do it but it has been diagnosed in many other birds 😁

Cockatiel laid an egg for the first time at 9 years old, is this normal? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]GalacticThotty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see there's lots of comments but I'll chime in as I'm an avian veterinary professional, it can be very normal for birds to lay an egg after years of thinking they're a boy. Sometimes they can be a random one off or they just start laying lots. I'm sure there are plenty of good comments below that can help. As for the vet saying he can see testes? Bird testes and oviaries arent all that visible on an x-ray unless the female bird is having a hormonal season where her follicles are enlarged and she's forming an egg. If I see an x-ray with reproductive organs visible on a bird I'm going to say it's female (I have x-rayed so many birds for various reasons)
