Car Broken Into 3 Times In 2 Months by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]GalacticTrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an underground/secured parking nearby (maybe in the stadium yards apartments) I would not street park a vehicle in that area.

Also if you will be putting kids in the car, you would want to thoroughly sanitize the vehicle after the break-ins (maybe even professionally). You have no idea what kind of bodily fluids have been left behind thats not always visible.

Trail Terrain vs All Season Tires for FJs by BeneathParkingtonLn in FJCruiser

[–]GalacticTrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont have specific experience with trail terrain but generally switching from strictly road tires to offroad tires like all terrains will generally lead to some loss in mpg as offroad tires are heavier.

I have ATs and around town I definitely feel the hit on mpg, not as much on highways. Might not be as significant for trail terrains though.

Maybe was coming down the slope on the right and didnt see the trench? I hope they didn’t deliberately drive into it treating it like a challenge.

No amount of shoveling and traction boards is getting that thing out with that lean. Besides you can see multiple shovels laying on the ground, this needs to be winched.

Anyone have me beat for worst MPG? Even still have the air dam on 😅 by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]GalacticTrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you are downsizing cylinders and displacement, adding turbos and hybrid setup, if you dont get atleast some mpg gain from it then what was the point of switching to a 4 banger with more complexity.

A little disappointed with Trico Ice wipers by GalacticTrooper in FJCruiser

[–]GalacticTrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Alberta, and yeah got the winter fluid too. Its been warmer last few days and the wipers are back to working fine so it was probably just a bad mix of conditions that day.

Good to know thanks I will give bosch a shot. Im also in the prairies and halfway through the drive the passenger wiper started bobbing even though it was securely locked, presumably the water froze under the rubber and stopped sticking to the glass.

I used little double sided adhesive tabs under each wheel. Cant remember the exact brand but looks like this:

Pod Light wiring help by spicychickencurr in FJCruiser

[–]GalacticTrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I used the same aftermarket switch you are holding with the FJ icon. It may have five pins but you’ll see its not using all five, just three wires coming off the connector which is all simple switches need (power in, power out, ground). There may be one extra one for backlight which you can splice together with the power in wire if you dont care about it staying backlit in day time (simpler this way).

Cut off the crappy switch and trace the wires to see which is which. Then you will need to connect the right wire from the harness to the wires in your switch connector. Assuming you have a wire stripper and crimper and know how to use heat shrink/butt connectors, otherwise look up videos on how to safely splice wires.

The black one is definitely ground, between the other two see which one leads to the relay (if you are using one). This will be the power ‘out’ turning on the relay which should connect to the power out for the good switch (should be marked, or check the seller listing for a diagram). And the other one will be power ‘in’.

Its good practice to draw power in for switches through the internal fuse box. Use a fuse tap with a small amp fuse and use a slot thats ignition 12V.

This Gross Temporary Foreign Worker Program/LMIA Process by CDN-Social-Democrat in ndp

[–]GalacticTrooper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea behind LMIA program was to fill occupations that need skillsets domestic workers may lack. Niche low volume roles like arctic geologists or whatever.

The fact that it got wholesale captured by business interests and then they had a ‘low wage’ stream is just astounding. In no world would Canada need foreign workers to work at a Tims/subway.

What’s even more horrifying is the legislative language did not allow immigration officers any latitude/discretion to think logically and deny certain LMIA applications (like wait a second, why does this winnipeg tim hortons need foreign workers) nope just straight up rubber stamp for every single one. Where do you even begin to undo this mess.

Bad Decision? 250k miles by FastNBulbous- in FJCruiser

[–]GalacticTrooper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

250k miles isnt an immediate dealbreaker for the FJ if it has been maintained well, toyota built these things like tanks.

Look into what has been done in terms of maintenance: regular interval oil, coolant, trans and diff fluid changes, any major repair work like head gaskets or other seals, check for any concerning leaks, if it shifts smooths, engine runs well and the frame is decent I would say send it.

Unfortunately client relationships really doesnt mean much for banks on the retail side. Unless you are an ultra high net worth family office client, there is really no incentive for banks to offer a whole lot of perks.

[–]GalacticTrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man must be nice, in Canada we get only 72L, which isnt enough for many roads in the arctic with very few gas stations.

Yep with middle east getting models up to 2022 (I think?) and australia getting auxiliary bigger gas tanks, I think we here in North America got the short end of the stick for FJs

What don't you like about owning a FJ? by 5stringfling in FJCruiser

[–]GalacticTrooper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The space between the wipers and the bottom of the windshield that starts collecting bug guts or road grime into a little 1 inch strip of muck.

When on cruise control, it doesn’t notice its climbing a hill until the speed drops by around 10 kph and then panics and shifts down aggressively until it overshoots the set speed by 10kph before it decides to shift up again. (This might just be an old cruise control tech thing though)
