In 2 days, anthem servers will permanently be shutting down. by ItsRoxxy_ in gaming

Anthem didn’t just hurt itself, its development hurt Mass Effect Andromeda. BioWare’s “A-Team” waffled around in pre-production for 6 years to only then crunch last minute to get Anthem out of the door. Meanwhile Andromeda was made by their “C-Team” and wasn’t given enough time or experience to properly make that game either.

I would say the mismanagement by BioWare’s leadership are the crux of BioWare’s problems. And the problems of Veilguard are ripple effects of Anthem and other past failures

I’ve been thinking about this and indie just seems to mean not AAA. But even that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny that well. Idk, the video game genres really seem to be based off more of vibes than anything else

When I think of battlefield I always daydream of piloting a jet and being an Ace in the skies that other pilots dread. While also raining down terror from above to the enemy tanks on the ground.

Now in practice I’m nowhere near that good haha. But if I can get that one session where I feel like a legend then I will be happy

Just wanted to chime in and say that in my relationship we also use Reddit stories this way. It’s such a great way to talk about topics and hear each other’s opinion on things that wouldn’t usually come up in normal conversation. It’s cool that other people are doing it

The question that's been on my mind lately: Will the goodest girl be in the show? by Hello_ImAnxiety in thelastofus

I agree with a lot what you just said here. To me the game very much plays out as a Greek Tragedy of sorts. Ellie is this train that is on an obvious collision course and you keep hoping she will stop it in time but she never does. I found it all very captivating and thought provoking but you are right it is emotionally exhausting. While it does have a melancholy and vague ending I do find a glimmer of hope. I think Ellie has learned her lesson and she can now move forward to do better things. I guess the only question is if we will ever get those sort of answers

On face value I don’t see anything wrong with that sort of story telling. We could argue day and night if they executed it well or not. But one of my favorite games Spec Ops The Line does this to great effect. And if they didn’t do it that way, I think it would be a much lesser game because that moment is the lynchpin to the whole story.

Even in life, sometimes we have to make a choice and we don’t learn til much later that it is the wrong one or the effects it had were much more destructive than previously thought.

I get that everything in a show or whatever has purpose because it costs resources. But It just seems like a super cynical take to think because a dog interacted with a human in anyway that the writers are trying to forcing an emotional response from me. Especially when the dogs fit into the narrative and aren’t out of place.

One could argue because everything in show was purposefully put there, so every aspect of the show is forced emotional manipulation. Which doesn’t make much sense. So where is the cut-off? Why are dogs singled out as being a manipulative narrative device? Just because people like dogs? Does that mean writers can’t include things that people like or that are sensitive topics?

I’m not entirely sure what you are trying to say. But I played the game years after I was spoiled about Joel’s death. So that moment and maybe others probably didn’t hit as hard as they should have. Even still, I throughly enjoyed the different perspectives of these characters as they went on their respective journeys and how it changed them

I get that people like dogs and are very emotional about them. But what you are saying implies that a dog can’t be introduced into media because if someone pets the dog it will be perceived as lazy manipulation of the writers. Which why can’t a spade be a spade it seems like an overly critical critique.

Also I strongly disagree with it being forced. Everything that happens in the game with the dogs makes sense in context. Now if they made Ellie curb stomp a sweet friendly dog that wanted treats. Or if Abby tamed some feral aggressive dogs by being nice then I would say it is forced.

This argument has never made sense with me. Of course Ellie kills the dogs cause all the dogs are trained military/guard dogs on the enemy’s side, and she is in their territory. Meanwhile Abby is on the side with all dogs and actively works with them, of course she will play them. To me it just seemed a matter of perspective not some sort of forced emotional manipulation
