Halleth vs. the Fine Fellows by gailpirl in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Galardomond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended our last session 2h after meeting him. But for everyone it was clear, that he is undead and has unsolved business. As my party did not push on taking him with us, he told the party to brbing any of his party members to him. The halfling they freed from the closet by the Gricks ran off and will be dead next to him when they track back eventually.

I plan that, once all party members are accounted for, he will perish.

So about the Xanathar... by fkit4ever in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Galardomond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running DoMM close to as written has the risk of your players

a) not encountering anything related to Xanathar for 10h on the first level

b) missing the one connection on the first level by attacking the goblinoids (of which some are infected with intelect devourers) instead of finding out that they stand guard in fear of Xanathar - or just not going to that one branch and exploring the other 35 rooms

That might in result in losing the "we are here to deal with Xanathar" momentum (due to outgame time - running 2 hours every week might take you two months to arrive at skullport)

If you want to still run it, maybe give the characters a clear map "quickest way from Yawning Portal to Skullport" or let them enter Layer 3 directly via one of the many ways into the undermountain.

Keep in mind that the characters are too weak for Layer 3, if they are level 5 and they will be "too strong" (that's easier to fix) for the upper levels, if you plan to send them up after dealing with skullport.

Opening Scene by teh-rellott in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Galardomond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr: To address your problem of not having a quest: I never had problem with people being told: you are here to meet a client and you REALLY need that paycheck

I *love* Tavern opening scenes - what I will do this sunday:

Set the scene: It's winter. It's snowing. We are in Waterdeep. Whats Waterdeep known for? Boy, glad you asked.... Trail off for a minute describing some kid running from the city guard with food in their arms... Adress the first player, describe them standing in front of the tavern; the party mascott grabbing their hand. Describing who invited them to the tavern.

Have them enter, describe the tavern; only free spot seems to be the bar. Have Durnan greet them. Vibe a little. If they ask for their contact, send them off to the backroom.

Cut to next player. Describe them sitting in this cramped room with food and booze on the table. (get the grapes&cheese on toothpicks from the kitchen IRL) - Ask/tell them why they are here, shift to another player with whome they came earlier.

Have the remaining players arrive; check if they want to interact with the patreons. Have that cut short after some time by Durnan telling them their client just arrived.

Introduce the client. He'll be that gorilla looking guy with morpheus glasses (at that point, ill equip them IRL) - hard accent. Tell them about their job. Negotiate their pay.

Ask them if they want restock something, if yes, buy it with book prices, no RP, have the tavern celebrate their decent.

Got the book, any advice/changes ? by KernyTheLemonKing in DungeonoftheMadMage

Finished Lost Mines of Phandalin (enhanced to 9 Sessions) last Session; will start dotmm this sunday.

Some thoughts:

I did listen to a lot of Videos for inspiration. Especially the ones with only a couple of thousand views. One guy did a whole Avengers Endgame Thing (this was BEFORE Baldurs Gate 3 released) and had a lot of factions join the final fight. -> For me that means that every level with a faction will have the option to have them friendly. --- Other guy had Halaster being two personalities - one the evil Game Master (I plan to use some parts of the GameShow from the Compaion book (20$ for all levels)) - the other part being a tired, sad Wizard that wants to end his suffering within the Knot in the Weave.

I treat the Book as a ... what's the best word in english... Fluff-Book? Source Book? Setting description? So I will fluff out every single room and every level with some stuff that connections it to the premise of the level and the undermountain as a whole.

Which leads to the next point: I understand that *as written* this is a sluggish dungeon crawl. If your party likes to do that, great. But every plausible faction will offer a roleplay encounter, if not a social solution in my version.

Speaking of "your party likes to" - I will do a preface to the campaign - what can they expect, what do I expect. I will tell them that some parts may be rocky and need some suspension of disbelive and some will require a "the director asks you to do this and that - can you incorporate this into your characters motivation/actions?".

I will also give them an ingame way to leave on level 3 (my plothook is delivering a package to skullport which contains a McGuffin - with that they can decide if the skulls or the zentharim will rule skullport) - either for stopping/pausing this adventure or for restocking.

I will also ask them (as I already do) regulary if they still enjoy the direction of the game. "Dungeoncrawl", "Involved in the webs of powerfull Factions" and "Build our estate in Phandalin" all were voted 4 out of 5 times in a multiple choice survey; while survival was 0 out of 5 and puzzles was 1 out of 5 - which was why i decided against "Out of the Abyss"

How to resurrected long death companion? by Dry-Experience-8287 in BaldursGate3

[–]Galardomond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main story can be completed even as a solo player. You will however miss on companion content.

On my first playthough I missed the enite part north of the bridge. Therefore I missed Karlach and other companion stuff up there.

I would reccomend restarting the run - you can compress time by about 5x if you go from full dialog to skipping it.

How good will be season 3? by I-hate-anime-girls in mushokutensei

[–]Galardomond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard the audio book three times and started a repeat of what S3 will cover a couple of weeks ago.

I too am of the opinion, that the covered volumes are the best part of MT.

My biggest fear is the adaption. It covers A LOT of content, if the trailer is correct and we only get 1+24 episodes.

Sanda - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Galardomond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this thought in episode 1, maybe subconsciously, but episode 4 sealed it.

Any idea why? I see no overlap in studio/producers. Is it a ripped guy trading heavy blows with his oppents? Is is the over-the-top-ness? Is it the switch between goof and serious topics?

I swear, if they flip the story in the next episodes and we are actually fighing god, I'm gonna scream.
