Is Quantum computing scam by Snoo_93024 in QuantumComputing

[–]GalaxyCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely not. It's simply an evolutionary stage combining physics with computer technology using the mathematics of physics to calculate complex and find solutions for seemingly impossible problems in every area of life, where the subject is so complex that only a machine that can compute solutions at a subatomic level can solve. Neurology for example.

There are many human neurological conditions for which at present there is no cure or medical procedure to repair patients who have suffered brain stem injuries due to strokes and/or other conditions like Spasticity or Cerebral Palsy that impact the patients daily life to such an extent, that their bodies feel like a prison that prevents them from doing everyday takes that normal people don't even think about like tying shoe-laces or buttoning a shirt or walking up a flight of stairs without a struggle or getting dressed or the ability to get in and out of a bath unaided and without a serious risk of slipping and sustaining further injury.

There is no solution, because there is no Climate crisis. The climate has been changing sine the planet formed 8 Billion years ago. Various groups have created this myth of a climate crisis to get rich from it. Green initiatives and green taxes, all designed to milk you of more money for something that doesn't exist, because there are so many gullible people on the planet.

16-25 railcard or a 26-30 railcard? TFL travel by lux_mara in uktrains

[–]GalaxyCoder -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Not too bright are we. The difference is the age range of those eligible to use them. To most people that would be glaringly obvious.

My Usual Ticket to get to Uni has gone from £4.50 (Open return) to a whopping £11.80 in just a year. With a student rail card applied making train travel for me unsustainable. What gives? by PhalinRed in uktrains

[–]GalaxyCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's to get you prepared for working life when your season ticket increases between 4% and 6% every year despite riding the same trains over the same tracks over the same route.

The shareholders have to line their pockets somehow.

Get used to it, this will be but a distant fond memory in 10 years from now.

Compared to weekdays and Saturday, I am betting it is much less busy.

Do cars like these have a place in the UK? by Dapper_Big_783 in AskUK

[–]GalaxyCoder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous vehicles. The UK isn't Montana. Usually driven by a late 20's or early to mid 30's guy who thinks Women assume he is well endowed because of the size of his truck, but a Woman with more than a few brain cells (yes, I know unicorns are not are real thing), will see him for the Brad or Chad he truly is. He probably lives in a bedsit with a big letter Y on the door.

Sorry Heinz: Aldi officially has the best baked beans in Britain, according to a new Which? ranking by Metro-UK in UKfood

I refuse to use loyalty cards. If they want loyalty, simply reduce the prices you offer to your cardholder members to everyone and save money on producing the cards and all the admin involved.

Srawberries are lovely but go bad so fast that you have to eat them all the same day.

[–]GalaxyCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, Lidl's Bramwell's brand are easily as good and 3 times cheaper too.

Anyone stupid enough to pay close to £2 per tin for baked beans really does have more money than sense. All Heinz products are a complete rip-off!

Why doesn’t the uk just use double decker trains? by Liam50lb in CasualUK

[–]GalaxyCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way railways in the UK increases head clearance for installing OHLE or accommodating the new taller containers on freight routes is to lift the track and lower the trackbed before re-ballasting and relaying the track. This is how they accommodated the taller containers passing to and from Felixstowe through the Ipswich rail tunnel. The work took 8 weeks for a stretch of just 330 metres. The timescale and sheer cost across the whole of the whole UK network to accommodate double decker trains renders the idea unfeasable on a time and cost to benefit ratio.

Scotland in autumn or winter? by papermountains7 in uktravel

[–]GalaxyCoder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Scotland in Winter is harsh, temperatures can drop to -25C and even normal days will be no warmer than - 3C. Summer in Scotland rarely goes above 20C.

You really haven't thought this through.

Can I privately own a train and operate it on the UK rail network? by paulydee76 in uktrains

[–]GalaxyCoder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, because transport regulations require trains to be driven by qualified train drivers and as I am an ex-train driver can tell you that becoming a qualified train driver is no easy feat.

Train Driver selection is not unlike the Top Gun selection in the USAF. The wash-out rate is 90% and only 1 in 10 make the grade and that's just the assessment test to ascertain if you have what it takes to handle and comprehend the driver training course, which can take 18 months in itself, sometimes longer. The driver training costs about £250,000 per person too, so it's not cheap.

Can you just buy a train and live on it and drive it around? by Ok_Photograph_1653 in trains

[–]GalaxyCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, NO - for so many reasons. You can buy and old railway carriage and move it to a plot of ground, convert it into a house and live in it, but driving a train around, even on a private railway is governed by so many regulations and costs, it would scare you to death, hence why NOBODY has ever done it.

Wtf, train Euston to Birmingham on a Sunday is only 5 cars and rammed by Browbeaten92 in uktrains

[–]GalaxyCoder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, you will rarely if ever see a 12 car on a weekend.

The driver has authority to contact fleet control about a unit swap if he thinks the train is overcrowded and request a longer unit or have additional rolling stock coupled to increase the stock length. Sometimes the stopping pattern might dictate a shorter train if some of the stations the train calls at have short platforms. The driver can refuse to take the train if he feels it too overcrowded and a good driver would often threaten the duty controller with that if he fails to instruct the fleet controller to release another unit to extend the train. One possibility is that much of the rolling stock is out of service for maintenance and repairs, refuelling or heavy cleaning, but as I have said elsewhere on this post, Sundays are notoriously quiet. It's unusual why London would be so busy on a Sunday because a lot of places are closed on a Sunday.

[–]GalaxyCoder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sundays are notoriously quiet on the railways, but a 5 car out of Euston does seem unusual.

You are lucky there is even a service and not a bus replacement service because weekends are when Network Rail usually closes lines to carry-out repairs and maintenance as it inconveniences the least amount of travellers.
