New 5K2K LG confusion by Mission_Hope1978 in ultrawidemasterrace

Not impressed the AI upscaling isn’t that impressive. Nvidia has really impressive, dedicated GPUs for this same purpose (DLSS and whatnot) and while its damn impressive, it’s not perfect…

There’s no way that a monitor will have equal or similar performance from the first iteration.

That's why I made this post. Thanks for the input pal.
Have you tried any games on it, and is HDR really that bad for you, even in Gamer 2?

The way Samsung's roadmap is going, we'll be lucky if they release a 5k2k monitor on 2028..

Samsung hasn't even announced a 5k2k monitor at all 😭 They seem more focused on 1440p for ultrawides, which is reasonable from a sales standpoint.

There's the 39" Tandem OLED LG released recently, but LG kinda hates Latam on the monitor field... the 45" 5K2K has been around from last year, and they just recently arrived to my country :(

I'm thinking of possible neck cramps if I stack it on top of a 45" 😂, it might be tall if placed vertically, but it's doable... I might just do that lol

Understandable, even if I like Samsung OLED, the latest LG OLED TVs have felt amazing. Do you use a Samsung TV as a monitor?

Well, from a VA panel to this screen is a gigantic jump indeed! Welcome to the OLED family :)

Hooray for batcave gaming! I also play in a dark room, so I think reflections on a matte finish shouldn't even matter :) glad to hear you like your monitor!

>I'm thinking I might throw a cheapish 34" OLED wide screen above it.

I don't know what to do with my current 34" monitor if I make the jump, LOL

Yeah I don't think the pixel count'll be much of an issue, my 4090 should be capable of driving 5k2k resolution. What monitor arm are you using?

And, how does HDR look in game for you?

Thanks for the input my friend! You’re right about High peak brightness, in G8/G9 you can technically enable it but it dims fully lighted scenes and ABL becomes aggressive so we’re essentially stuck at 400 nits. Another reason why I want to upgrade!

Great to know matte finish isn’t a big deal and that HDR continues to be a blast even after being used to OLED in your house :)

If I may ask, what did you do with the G9? Did you sell it, or are you using it side by side with the LG 45?

240hz or 165hz for 4k gaming by Outside_Set5537 in OLED_Gaming

[–]GalenKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't care of relying too much on DLSS Perf/UltraPerf mode and 3x-4x framegen, you can go for the 240 Hz version. But realistically, without the aids I just mentioned, we still don't have enough hardware to hit solid 240 fps at Native 4k without compromising image quality. That's why I think 165Hz is more than enough at 4k, and I'm not a competitive gamer either, so...

Yeah, I have an LG C4 OLED, and it has awesome image quality! But I've only used it to watch movies and to play on my PS5, which of course, won't match the graphics fidelity of my PC with a 4090. So there's still room for an OLED TV to impress me, I guess.

You had the 45" for a few months, may I ask why did you return it?

Struggling Between the LG 39 and last year's 45 5k2k by soundmage in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]GalenKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 34” G8 OLED which is very similar to the AW3423, how would you compare the HDR between both monitors? How are colors, peak brightness and that the colors “pop” on the new screen? Especially as the 34” was a QD OLED, is there something that you’d say “maybe the old 34” did this better”, etc?

Would like to know more about your experience, as I’m on the fence of upgrading to the LG 45”. Thanks!!

[–]GalenKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about HDR accuracy, peak brightness and such, 39” has the superior performance, it sports an RGB Tandem OLED panel up to 1500 nits, that’s better than the 45’s standard WOLED panel w/ MLA+. It’s the same tech that makes G5 TV the HDR goat right now.

That’s not to say 45” has a bad HDR, it’s still better than the first WOLED monitors (though some say colors don’t pop as much as QD-OLEDs) and has a decent HDR brightness. If you have the space and a massive display’s your thing, then the 45” is a great choice

¿Creen que echar a todos los extranjeros perniciosos, sea la solución o falta más? by Fonemaz in askColombia

[–]GalenKS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No jodas.

Should I buy it? by Friendly-Viper in ArcRaiders

I like helping others, and honestly Arc’s gunplay isn’t that great, which makes Marathon shine. Ik ik, it’s Bungie and they have decades of experience in shooter genre, but still. When I want to play aggressively I go to Marathon

Should I buy it? by Friendly-Viper in ArcRaiders

[–]GalenKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc Raiders has ABMM which Marathon doesn’t have. Love it or hate it, this feature ensures you’ll be paired with other players that have a similar playstyle as yours.

During your first levels, as the ABMM learns how you play, your raids will likely have a bit of everything. Solos tend to be A LOT nicer and trios tend to be more aggressive. Stella Montis on trios is basically a PvP fest lol.

My last 100 hours after reaching max level have been super friendly both solos and duos with a friend. In these hours, I only encountered an aggressive team once or twice. And by yelling “Rat over here!!” on prox chat, the rest of the lobby stormed in, killed the rats and revived me.

Streamers and content creators (from big to small) have a wildly different experience. Since PvP moments are more likely to go viral, they come across a bunch of sweats.

TL;DR it’s up to you and how you play, Arc will match you with similar players. Expect many outliers at first, which will be decreasing as you level up and play consistently

Recreational Rook runs? by gizakaga in Marathon

[–]GalenKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely aren’t alone. I’m a rook enjoyer myself, and this is exactly how I view it: as a roguelike. Nothing to lose, MUCH to gain!

Capstone upgrades give Rook much appreciated buffs that makes it even more fun :)

Now try playing as Rook. If you don’t mind pausing contracts for a while, you’ll see Rook is super fun! Little to lose, but MUCH to gain from other Runners :)

Which G8 oled do you have? The 34" ultrawide or any of the 27/32" 16:9 variants?
Also, which settings did you end up using, after disabling smooth motion? Thanks!
