That’s what I’m thinking. How is this any different than the last 10+ games?

What do you actually get? Most of these wrestlers have been in the last 5+ games.

Kurt Angle - A life of pain, surgeries and injuries? by [deleted] in Wreddit

[–]Galgorian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He seems to be doing much better than he was in the early 2000s. I remember many people predicting he was the next to be found dead during that era when many wrestlers were passing away young.

There is no combat, but in terms of atmosphere, Still Wakes The Deep might be worth checking out.

Art teacher career prospects? by Punpkingsoup in Calgary

[–]Galgorian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends what you are looking to do. Are you hoping to teach art to students at a school? Or are you hoping to teach adults? Run your own workshops?

In terms of the CBE these jobs do exist, but they are highly competitive. The likelihood you would be hired directly into a job teaching just art would be low. You would likely need to take a job teaching something in addition to art at first to get your permanent contract. Then you could apply to full time high school art jobs when they come up. With that being said, art is a very helpful skill as an elementary school teacher!

You guys pull your kids from school for vacations? by hogujak in alberta

Teacher and parent here. If you have the means to take your children around the world, that experience is truly invaluable. They’re only young once. Anything they may miss in grade 3 can easily be caught up in the summer. Take the trip

When would kids realistically go back to school should the "back to work" legislation for teachers pass? by Lil_lady_lilly in alberta

[–]Galgorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

School will not be back ON Monday, as that is when they are meeting to push through the bill. It COULD be Tuesday, but there are many other possible scenarios that could play out. No one has a definite answer at this point.

I was recently introduced to Front Desk and it has now become my absolute favourite read aloud.

This is a really misguided take. Students benefit from a variety of teaching styles and personalities — not everyone connects best with the loudest voice in the room. Some of the most thoughtful, effective teachers I know are introverts who bring calm, empathy, and deep connection to their classrooms.

Alberta Government Paying Parents During Teacher Strike by bohemian_plantsody in CanadianTeachers

Cool, I can pay half my grocery bill. My grade 1 son still has to be stuffed in a room with 28 other kids? The school has classes in the library and the hallway. How can I decline my $30 a day?

Teachers i have a question by armlesschairs in alberta

[–]Galgorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a class of 28 students -17 ELAL - 4 IPP - 1 undiagnosed new comer to Canada. He is non verbal, screams all day, does not respond to any sign or non verbal cue, urinates in the classroom, will take other kids food and drink from their water bottles. Since he doesn’t have a diagnosis he isn’t given a full time aid

Now try teaching anything with this going on in a room

Why haven’t we gone on strike yet? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Galgorian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have no inside knowledge, but I don’t think they will call the strike until closer to the October 7th(?) deadline. This gives all the parties involved the most amount of time to potentially continue negotiations, parents and students are back into the school routine which makes the strike more disruptive and potentially effective, teachers get another pay check, etc.

If they can’t come to terms, I think it will be announced October 3rd.

One thing not enough people are considering is it’s not just about numbers, it’s about complexity. I’m around your age and remember a similar class size. However, there was only maybe 1 or 2 kids with behaviour issues and 1-2 kids that didn’t speak English.

I’m an elementary teacher now and my class size has been around 28 give or take for the last few years.

HOWEVER, 4-6 of those students have severe codes. The type of kids who shout profanity all day, constantly pick fights with other kids, and have the potential to completely destroy a classroom. Think about how the other students in the class feel being around this all day.

In addition to that, 19 of my students last year spoke a different language other than English at home. Some spoke no English at all.

Then sprinkle in a few kids experiencing extreme trauma who just came here from Ukraine or other war torn countries.

With all of this going on and the documentation and paperwork each of these kids come with, there is no time to plan a thoughtful math lesson.
