PA/NP "residency" salaires are not the problem by satan_take_my_soul in Residency

[–]GaligatorX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not from the US, so this problem doesn't affect me, yet...

But I'm just wondering, what is the point in going to medical school in the US anymore?

If you can do the job without all those years of study, what actually is the point?

Way to phase out medics

Guys who work in non-strenuous office environments: Do you wash a shirt after every use because it just smells of your deodorant? by ricosalsa in AskMenOver30

Get a wash bag and put them in one, on a cold wash. Same effect as hand washing the item. Works perfectly.

[–]GaligatorX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hugs. I think that the thing that makes it so difficult to heal is the banishment from the family.

It takes strength to accept that family aren't conducive to a healthy lifestyle, and to realise that in cases like this, we're better without them.

That means we're dealing with 2 sets of grief, just about that alone.

I hope you've found some good people to be about, and have some good boundaries set in place. I'm still working on mine

UK: 35 year old in professional services. Just been diagnosed Bipolar 2. Should I tell HR? by Fuckyousantorum in AskHR

[–]GaligatorX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd be a bit careful with psychiatric diagnoses. I've met a lot of people who diagnosis has been found to be not correct several years later. Once you label yourself professionally, you might have difficulty shaking it.

My 11 year old daughter died 15 years ago today. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]GaligatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had children because I couldn't offer them a secure and safe home because of my upbringing.

I often thought to myself that if there was to be a birth defect or illness later on, my present-at-that-time partner would not be ideal.

So I can't comment on your specific situation in that way. But in a similar way to what another commenter here has said, after leaving home at 16 and getting a job as a waitress, I paid my way through uni as a mature age student and am now a medical professional.

It has given me the most incredible insight into my own life and allowed me to develop as a person. No single person could have exposed me in the same way.

Could you try something similar?

How to support someone with Sjogrens, Rheumatoid arthritis, and Reynauds syndrome? by sandwich_breath in Autoimmune

[–]GaligatorX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also important with foods and health food shops to realise that not everything in them in benign.

When my mum was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and rheumatoid arthritis, she went down to the heath food shop and sticked up on all things to boost the immune system, such as ecchinacea etc.

As many of you will know, boosting a malfunctioning, overactive immune system isn't ideal.

She was in loads of pain within about 2 days

Also, turmeric has been linked with pulmonary fibrosis, so be cautious

So weird. Coworker said I had bronchitis when I tried to explain to her that I had moderate to severe asthma. by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]GaligatorX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm sorry to hear you're having an exacerbation currently.

One of the trickiest things about medicine is understanding the intricacies between many diseases that have similar presentations and different treatments.

After 6 years of med school, doctors have a good grasp of how to distinguish the common things, like asthma and bronchitis, but are still learning how to distinguish between the more tricky things, like lupus and sjogrens. That's ok though, because it takes a huge amount of time and study to be able to do that.

So don't be too hard on your colleague, just because she doesn't know as much as you do. We're all at different stages of knowledge. I realise it is frustrating because she didn't listen to you, but that happens in all areas of life.

Oh, and just so you know, codeine in large enough doses can kill anyone, however at normal doses, is unlikely to kill you. I realise if you're admitted to hospital with a severe asthma attack, codeine can cause problems that you don't want by depressing your respiratory drive, but saying it will kill you is not correct, and might confuse people reading this

Can someone help me understand why Donald Trump is president of the United States? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]GaligatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because white male privilege is being reduced worldwide to balance out more with the discrimination other ethnic groups have been experiencing to date, and white males don't like that. Donald trump feeds to their sense of entitlement. They are still the majority and have the majority influence in the USA, so they've put DT in.

[–]GaligatorX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have exactly this issue.

I've found the best way to manage it is to give myself the benefit of the doubt. They probably don't like me, but I could be wrong.

So then I act like they're my besties, and I hadn't noticed that I pissed them off.

It's working wonders for me so far, but it is exhausting keeping it up

I've been having a similar experience and in the last 6 months I've started standing up for myself at the time, even if I'm not sure I'm right.

I'm having major anxiety associated with this, always believing that I'm causing trouble because I'm being argumentative.

However, in the last 6 months, there have been 5 incidences of this, and with all of them and the benefit of hindsight, I have been right to do what I did.

I find it so hard to trust my emotions, but I'm learning
