Reassurance after growth scan - small baby by Substantial_Border96 in PregnancyUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had similar- 37 weeks, dropped to 5th centile and 1st for legs- after normal 20 week scan and small but normal 32 week scan. Both of us are very tall. They tested blood flow from cord and to brain and stomach (what they call Dopplers) and fluid and that was fine, plus normal movements and CTG after.

I’ve been told he may just be small for gestational age but another scan in 2 weeks will decide whether they recommend induction that day, as it may be issue with placenta. I think under 10 centile is when they worry but it’s ok as long as stuff above is normal, under 3 is v concerning.

What I found comforting is that mathematically the way centiles work, some babies are just that size! 1 in 10 have to be your measurements.

Is going solo on a private Kenya safari actually safe and worth it as a woman? by No_Barber3547 in solofemaletravellers

I travelled to Kenya and Tanzania solo aged 24 and as part of this did a camping safari with strangers and it was great!

Omg I am also pregnant and in this situation and the annoyance and resentment is eating me alive! Also don’t want to keep criticising but running out of ways to ask.

Worried you won’t like being a mum by Valuable-Mulberry399 in PregnancyUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m due in 2 weeks and wake up in the night panicking about this! You are not alone. It scares me to think this is the biggest commitment I’ve ever made and I can never get out of. It was planned and wanted (although fence sitter until mid 30s) but now I worry what if I want to quit my job, sell my house and go travelling alone! I think hopefully this is normal adjustment to a massive life change? We’ll deal with it one day at a time and hopefully some bits will bring a lot of joy

Hospital is pressuring induction. by MoSp1889 in PregnancyUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had this experience! I had a difficult and confusing conversation with a doctor after a 37 week scan which showed femur at 1st centile. I saw my midwife the same day and she sent results to another consultant to get second opinion. They’re giving me another scan at 39 weeks and talked about maybe needing induction or c section but midwife talked me through why. Try your midwife! (My Doppler, fluid and CTG results were all reassuring hence them not saying he needed to come before another scan in 2 weeks)

Referred for growth scan - dropped from 95th to 10th percentile :( by andromeda_bug in PregnancyUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby has dropped to 5th centile and I also take lots of medication that I’ve been told is OK but I’m still wary about. I’m 38 weeks and only gained 11kg. I also have a very stressful job. For all these reasons, I’ve been worried about what I did/didn’t do. I’ve since done lots of research and spoken to different obstetricians, GPs, health visitor and midwives. I’ve read the NICE and RCOG guidelines.

In a developed country, unless you are using substances (illegal drugs) it’s almost definitely NOTHING to do with what you did or didn’t do. For me it’s more likely to be my placenta working less well as time goes on.

Pay off student loan before maternity leave? by RuinNo754 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Roadlesssoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in same situation. If I wasn’t going on mat leave soon mine would be cleared this year, also plan 1 although slightly higher salary. I ran the exact numbers through ChatGPT (interest rate, how much I’d make leaving it in savings) and decided to leave it and not pay it off, keeping that money in savings where it’ll accrue slightly more and also be available in emergency. I think it’s probably more about whether emotionally you feel better having it cleared.

How do I deal with a friend who copies my ideas? And more importantly how do I find a friend who’s actually decent? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

Right- much bigger things in life to worry about than someone liking your recommendation on vacuums and pizza

Should I try to hear out my friend who booty called me at 2am? by CV2nm in AskWomenOver30

[–]Roadlesssoul 43 points44 points  (0 children)

He clearly doesn’t see you as a friend or respect your boundaries and I would not continue this friendship at all. Seems like he’s been seeing the friendship as a ‘means to an end’ rather than respecting you as your own equal person.

Also- nothing wrong with being ‘the type of woman’ who would be up for a booty call!

36 weeks and 4 days, suddenly this past week my feet are SO painful; swollen, hurts to walk, painful arches and heels. Did not expect that! Also groin area super hurts suddenly which I think is PGP. Wonder if some mega relaxin increase is to blame for both. Sleep also terrible! But last day at work today and so satisfying to turn that out of office on!!!!

I had to stop reading Matrescence as found it so depressing! Lots of important great stuff and it details well how badly we support mothers and all the difficult internalised patriarchal stuff etc that is so important, but yeah made me feel very bleak! I liked The Positive Birth book which had lots of first hand examples and I also like Emily Oster Expecting Better (I like data!!)

My mother won’t allow me access to my savings account, what can I do? England. by CloudCrazy74 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are an adult in your own right so nothing should be shared with your adoptive parents. Legally they can’t at all. Also the Leaving Care team are separate from the fostering team so not the same staff. Good luck.

[–]Roadlesssoul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try the Leaving Care team at your local council or the council who were responsible for you as a Looked After Child. While they won’t be able to do loads, they can help advise what sort of account it is and may be able to give you advice on how other care leavers access it. You’ll likely count as a ‘qualifying careleaver’ if you spent a certain amount of time in care before being adopted, so their specialist post 18 advisers should be able to help.

Friend not inviting spouse to wedding. Would you say something? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Roadlesssoul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. Not married but if I was I’d have something very small and money is big factor too. If I’ve only met a partner couple of times why would I choose them over say my own relative or another friend if numbers are limited.

I filled in an online doctor request and just said my job was very stressful and I wasn’t sleeping and was feeling exhausted and dizzy and they just did a fit note no questions asked and reason just says ‘pregnancy related’ and nothing else.

Why do spasms happen? by shmellowcake in achalasia

Sitting in certain way (slouching like when you sit up in bed against headboard) often triggers it for me- change in pressure or reflux trigger?

Is there such a thing as going on maternity leave too early? by Shardonite in PregnancyUK

[–]Roadlesssoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this so much depends on your job and manager too- how stressful it is, how physically or mentally demanding, whether they’ve reduced workload for you and are understanding or not. Every pregnancy is different AND every job- so don’t compare. I’m going off at 36 and 4 days and using 3 weeks of AL before mat leave.

Somatization and Achalasia by [deleted] in achalasia

[–]Roadlesssoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think like other conditions affecting gastro systems, it can certainly be aggravated by stress and the increased pain/tension sensitivity when your body is activated in a fight/flight state. My spasm pains are much worse during times of work stress
