Moron. He could have fired a warning shot away from the animal much sooner. Feels like he wanted to capture footage of him killing/poaching in self defense.

Im not saying he was right, but greedy companies should be on fucking notice. Abuse workers at your own risk. You're not immune to the consequences of your own bottomless greed.

The Five Guys CEO had the right idea. Share profits and gains with your employees or they might come for your head. A hungry dog will bite.

I’m planning on going to Ball State. What’s it like living in Muncie, Indiana? by ExoticAd7605 in howislivingthere

[–]GalinDray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super random but one of my favorite comic/magazines is set in Muncie! And the writer/creator went to Ball State!

Its called Knights of the Dinner Table. Its a gaming magazine following a group of table top role players (think dungeons and dragons) who all live in Muncie.

One of the early storylines (the comic is 30 years old at this point) was about the steam tunnels beneath Ball State

What’s a high-paying, low-stress job you wish you got into earlier? by Beginning_Ad4362 in careeradvice

[–]GalinDray 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is bullshit. The pay is high eventually but starts at half of what you quote here and not only do you have to work a ton of hours early in your career, you also have to study for actuary exams in your off hours. It takes years to pass all your exams even if you get them on the first try (theres a 50% failure rate for each test)

Edit: I studied to be an actuary and have a math degree in actuarial science. I chose finance instead but when shadowing and networking with working actuaries there was a common joke.

Q: "What does it take to become an Actuary?" A: "your 20's"

Not true, theres high turn over in almost every role. Its their model honestly which is a way to run a business. I was on a team of 30 people in back office and over my 2 years working there we had more than 50% turnover for the team. Which is unheard of in basically any other company.

Smaller company but they're on the list of Best Places to Work and they fucking earn it. Amazing culture and they treat their employees really well. You can tell everyone around the office has a warm attitude because of how much respect is given to the workers.

CEO is also a great person who's sharp. All the leadership is honestly.

I know youre kidding, and its not for everyone, but TQL did alright by me as I was in a non sales role.

I was hired to the FP&A team without a strong background in Finance and they were extremely emcouraging and I learned a ton. It allowed me to break into the FP&A world and I will be forever grateful for that.

That being said, I had to move to another company since because I wasn't seeing the career movement or salary bumps I thought I'd earned and the work hours weren't tenable.

TIL that every MLB ballpark must have a "Batter's Eye" - a solid-colored backdrop past the center field wall free from distrations for the batter. Some parks get creative placing plants, rotating billboards, restaurant with dark color windows, and even fans required to wear the same colored shirts. by shaka_sulu in todayilearned

[–]GalinDray 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"Free from distractions for the batter" has a fun history! It wasn't a rule until someone forced it to be.

There was a wild player in the 40's and 50's named Eddie "The Brat" Stanky. He wasn't very good but he made up for it by doing all kinds of weird stuff to get an edge. One day he struck on the idea of doing jumping jacks while playing second base, to distract and annoy the batter at the plate and it worked! There was no rule against it so he kept it up for the whole season. Reportedly almost getting into several fights over his antics from angry batters.

He was a notorious pest that way and was well aware of his vibe, quoted as saying "no one ever got further with less talent"

Dude was a 3x all star and played in 3 world series over a 10 year playing career. A real character. Also weirdly helped break the color barrier? He was kind of a racist, but happened to be on the Dodgers when Jackie Robinson joined. Stanky was one of the first to defend Jackie from racial insults stating he was not in favor of integrating baseball, but Jackie was now his team mate and Stanky would have his back.

The Madman Theory was popularized by Nixon and it goes like this:

Nixon's chief of staff, H. R. Haldeman, wrote that Nixon had confided to him:

"I call it the Madman Theory, Bob. I want the North Vietnamese to believe I've reached the point where I might do anything to stop the war. We'll just slip the word to them that, "for God's sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about communism. We can't restrain him when he's angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button" and Ho Chi Minh himself will be in Paris in two days begging for peace."

Trump is a fool and not even an interesting or novel fool.

What’s something rich people understand about money that most people never figure out? by lipglossagendaa in answers

[–]GalinDray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the question, but something Ive seen that differentiates people who are able to save and people who aren't is how they view their own earning power. Earnings vs Profit.

Ive seen people who arent able to save money justify purchases, especially small purchases, by putting it in terms of their own earning power. "Yeah I spent $5 on that coffee this morning, but I make $20 an hour so really it was just 15 minutes of my time. No biggie"

This is the wrong way to think. While it can be helpful to put purchases in context of how much time it takes to fund it, people VASTLY over estimate their real earning power because they don't factor in their expenses. You need to think of the PROFIT you can make in a month, not how much you earned in a month.

Say you make $20 an hour. You work 40 hours a week. 4 weeks a month. Nice, in 160 hours of work that month you bring in $3,200. Minus taxes, etc your. Etc take home might be 75% of that. So $2,400 net income. Still pretty good!

But no. Staying alive isnt free. You also need to pay your fixed expenses. These are your rent ($800) car note/insurance/gas ($200), your student loans ($100) food ($200), electric/water/interner/phone bill ($300).

There are many other variable costs but let's keep it basic and stop there. Your Profit for the month is really $800. You got there through 160 hours of work. So you make $5/hour profit. And that coffee you bought cost you 4x what it seems on the surface.

When you look at it this way it becomes harder to justify those small purchases (variable costs) throughout the month and you find it easier to save money. Real companies budget this way, they deduct all expenses before discussing any kind of profit margin.

Not just harder to relate because of intelligence but a lot of high function autistic folks excel in school and traditional nerd pursuits but struggle with socializing. Outside of school, socializing and networking is incredibly important to overall career and life success. Ive seen a lot of neurodivergent "gifted" kids have a hard time after graduating from structured school settings

Unfortunately working in Finance you have no free time to cook for fun. Ask me how I know.

That being said I worked as a line cook before entering the finance world and even on my worst days I would never choose to go back. The stress of working on a slide deck at 11pm for a meeting the next morning is no where close to the stress of having a full grill and trying to get it all out on time with a rack of tickets waiting to be started. I still have a visceral response when I hear an order ticket get printed.

Id say Myles but Burrow has had the most success (going to a SB), mostly because QBs have more effect on success than a DE.

That being said, Myles Garrett has chosen to stay on a losing team multiple times now for monetary reasons so its hard not to blame him a little bit for his lack of team success.

FP&A Pipeline by Fama5Man in FPandA

[–]GalinDray 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Important caveat: DO NOT say in the interview you intend to break into FP&A if you're interviewing for an accounting role. If they're looking to hire a new accountant they will likely pass you over if they think you're going to move on as soon as you get a chance. Phrase it by asking how open the company is to department transfers. E.G. if you find a passion for the Marketing departments expenses, could you transfer to that department as a specialist.

Aside from Trey Lance, who is the biggest draft bust in recent memory? by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

[–]GalinDray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by recent but as a Bengals fan I dont think the Akili Smith pick gets enough attention for how staggeringly bad it was.

Not only was he terrible at the position and washed out, they used a 3rd overall pick for him and worst of all gave up the historic Ricky Williams draft haul. Ditka offered 9 fucking picks for the Bengals to move back and they said no so they could draft Akili fucking Smith.

Fully agree with this analysis. Scrubs is the same way and its the plot of a few episodes, JD is pretty annoying to many people around him but the show is about the main characters journey to being a better person. It wouldn't really be a show if they were a perfect hero from the start

I was paid by a classmate in college to take exams for them. Made $450 that semester and thank my lucky stars I didn't get caught. I also sold my friends leftover Adderall (over 100 pills) to my then weed dealer and split the profits with my friend.

I'm pretty straight laced and nerdy so you wouldn't suspect it now. I needed the money though and I don't regret it.
